I'd put them on NEO and DeepOnion; they still have many room for growth and are not hypervalued. Investing on the big ones (BTC, ETH) will not bring as much revenue. And although XRP is more like an asset, it can make a x20 profit in about 5-10 years and is probably a good bet also.
Let me say, I will divide it like a pie, 40percent with coins that are included on the top 20, like oyster, ETH and the others, 50% for ICOs tokens like around 5-8 of kinds....

If I do have $500 to invest I think I will go for new ICOs with privacy and zero-knowledge proof. it will be the future of true blockchain products. Although, there are many out there like Zcash and Hawk among others, well am looking to enter early in any project that has Zero Knowledge as a part of the package.
For me i still invest in bitcoin because your money is safe weather it going down or goin up still your account is safe and increasing. you have assurance but in any organization there is no assurance because they are only concerned is to take your money in your account and beside that is nothing. bitcoin is the one who help you to grow your money no one else and legit not like other say that bicoin is scam.
ETH looks to be the favorite right now and may go ahead of BTC in terms of the market cap may be in 2019.So my pick would be ETH for those 500 bucks.

The best opportunity is to find a privacy-related project with a low total supply (less than 100M), that way the price will be increasing much faster. I will definitely invest into Bitcoin and Ethereum. But if I have to choose one, then I will choose one of them between Bitcoin and Ethereum. It is an easy choice because I do not like some new Altcoins or cryptos who are new in the market. That is because I cannot predict their price in the future. But if we are talking about Bitcoin and Ethereum, I am so happy because they are the most profitable and sure investment. I think their increasing price is certain and we do not need to worry about anything anymore. Sooner or later, their price will increase and we will get a lot of profit. The only key to this investment is to never sell no matter what. Never sell when you do not get the profit yet. And never sell when the price is down.

I would choose bitcoin i have a strong feeling that the price would hit $15k this year if the price will fall down again i will invest all my money on btc.
if i alone have 500 $ capital to invest then i will choose BTC and coin altcoin too. because BTC is the strongest in the market crypto the price and altcoin also like that
If I do have $500, I buy a fraction of ETH, NEO, LSK, and BTC. Those were the top 4 gainers of my portolio since last year so I'll still hold on to them for long term and top up whenever I have extra funds to buy especially now that everything is on sale so far.
I would either split it into a couple of ico's that you think have a good chance of getting at least x2 or x3 ROI or put it into one great ico. To find great ico's I like to use icobench and look at what people are saying about the project, how big the hype is, how good/professional the website and whitepaper are, how competent and experienced the team is etc.

Bitcoin and ethereum are my choice, because they are very strong and have the potential to continue to rise in price. I consider the benefits and risks, and therefore I choose the most powerful coins.
It depends on how risky your strategy supposed to be. If you are buying $500 assets divercified between top-10 coins, you almost cannot lose your money, but profit also will not be huge.
If you prefer high risk-high reward strategy, then you can buy less known coins. This is my way for example, and I know I can lose bigger part of my assets.

of course, not to skip the bitcoin because surely bitcoin will begin to recover from the current price to high price as a few weeks ago.
$500 is enough to split into several cryptos (never put all into one basket). I would invest:
- $100 in BTC
- $100 in ETH
- $100 in a privacy coin like XVG (Verge)
- $100 in another privacy coin like Spectre or Monero
- $100 in Ardor (ARDR) as it has a better technology as even ETH
But this is only my personal opinion. Don't take it as an investment advise of course.

I'll invest it in a legit ICO. thats what I did last sept which gave me a x200 roi. Just waited for my ICO to have its momentum. Just make sure the project and the team is legit. Patience will reward you
better to put only a coin on a lot of capital of yours, so then the risk if the coin price down will be smaller. Maybe you can install on ethereum, bitcoin, BTG, and xlm.
The truth is that you will never find a good answer from someone else in what to invest. Do you have $500 or $500k the problem is the same. Who to trust? The most important thing is to trust yourself and your decisions. Thats why the most important thing is to make own research about the project in which you want to invest and then decide for yourself if it is worth the risk. Don't trust anyone, only your own decisions!
If I had only $500 to invest I would pick from bottom, undervalued and promising coins for long term holding. For example I would put my money on Aurora DAO, it's very cheap now. when Idex market users become as high as Kucoin and Binance users it will go up significantly.
Also on BTC, it's very cheap now, Investing on Bitcoin will give you good returns after a long time, but in short time investing on Altcoins will give us a good profit. So if we are looking for a long time invesment Bitcoin is good, short time better invest on Altcoins.
Bitcoin cash is on the move. I would put my 500 on it.
