They are not an exchange they only list coins to track the price, volume, and information about the site, they have nothing to do with volumes, projects and whatever happens to the project, in fact, they helped traders and investors in analyzing the coins, it's still the investors task to track their portfolios.
Definitely, you don’t invest anything on CMC its just a tool for you to easy monitor the coins and I think doing research in every coin is our own responsibility. Its still safe but don’t depend on that too much, you’d better to find other source of information if you don’t comfortable with using CMC.

It is very probable all your point are right but .. why do you expect CMC will list only real, quality and proven projects? Their strategy is to be a listing site for all cryptocurrencies/cryptoassets. The research is then on you  Cool

We need a better option to CMC and we have already have some but they are getting it hard to catch up with CMC because of its first come advantage which will be very difficult to overcome. I think it will be more productive if there can be away to let them know what they need to work on for the betterment of the industry at large.

I’m starting to worry about coinmarketcap lately, after series of deceit and spammish activity
The following are my observed reasons

1. Many dead projects still on cmc

2. Market cap is fake Cox many projects which have seized to trade adds up to the market cap

3. Cmc doesn't verify authenticity of projects before listing it

4. CMC now have ads of fake icos on their website thereby leading people to scammers

Funny enough so many NOOBS believe anything and everything dey see on cmc to be authentic

Let me stop here and anyone against it should bring a proof to counter it
Or offer more options
Let me tell you this, coinmarketcap can't control to what ads to show because they have no control and google can only dictate to what ads to show they have no control to it, so you can't really blame coinmarketcap for the ico ads.

I think your title need change to 'is CMC still trustworthy at all' because CMC not a investment website, it's just a real time crypto price index with graphs & historical data, but CMC not the only one option, maybe you can try livecoinwatch and worldcoinindex.

All these problems are well expected as I did heard about them that they are charging very big fee to list a coin with them. Hence, it is easier for many scammers to list their coins on top regardless of its actual's. I do see lots of alternatives are available over the internet but I am not sure why most people from crypto community is always going to coinmarketcap for referencing and also the worst case is people looking at it for choosing their assets for trading/long term holding. That must be a real pathetic.

Showing your banners in coinmarketcap is not cheaper still we can see many scammy projects are being shown up. But, bitcointalk is very much conscious on choosing their advertisers like I have seen @theymos was asking about list of legit projects for considering for their monthly ad auctions. This is how a famous portal must care its community and I am afraid that coinmarketcap may become a house for scammers like many crypto forums are already doing.
So true. Regardless of the flutuation rate in the market and the pros and cons of blockchain technology and crypto currencies adoption throughout the world, one of the causes can come from things like this. It would be very unfortunate if in its infancy and adoption was tarnished by fraudulent practices, especially if indeed CMC and similar portals which had a good reputation and could be trusted were proven to be involved and in fact became places for fraudsters in action.

My concern is on the project verification process that will advertise on their site so that it can reduce advertisements that turn out to be scam projects.

On the coinmarketcap you only have information about the exchange rate of coins and tokens. With such a large amount of information they are unable to manually verify everything. 90% or more of information is searched for on the internet automatically, so you there surely also are mistakes or false information. If you want to check some project thoroughly, you should use at least several sources, not just a coinmarketcap.

Coinmarketcap is only an index it doesn't hold any users funds like an exchange so I'm not sure what you mean by 'safe' and it does have methods in place to ensure accurate reporting of trade volumes and provides as comprehensive an overview of the market as possible however, there are other handy resources such as coingecko, coincheckup, cointelligence and tradingview that you might find useful depending on what sort of data you require

This is the first time I read an attack on Coinmarketcap when it is helping us all to track coins that we've invested, only an idiot will do such a thing,  this is the kind of people who want to get spoon fed and do not work and do research on coins that they want to invest and do finger pointing.

Let me stop here and anyone against it should bring a proof to counter it
Or offer more options

Then, what should we do after reading your post?

Leaving CMC and move to another coin tracker website or create a petition on change.org to take down CMC?

Are you author of similar website like CMC and try to create FUD for making people moving to your website?

CMC did nothing wrong, they giving Ads to their website to make their website keep alive, It is our own responsibility to make research on the every project that already listed on CMC.

I don't say they are safer site to provide all the detail about cryptocurrencies because I have seen personally many exchanges providing fake volume to them and they are still showimg without any investigation so don't just decide based on what you are seeing and coinmarketcap just use it as reference and go to the exchange and see the real volume.

It's hard to know what projects are scams, so I can't fault them for letting shady projects advertise with them. The data on CMC can be manipulated and sometimes misleading... but I just like to look at it to get a general sense of how the market is doing.

I also see this. It seems like the filter of Coinmarketcap doesn't do well and many projects now have the transaction volume is very low, even died but it is still available in it

Coinmarketcap to me is the most authentic cryptocurrency rating platform. I don't think we have any better yardstick to measure a good or bad project performance other than cmc. Moreover, don't blame them for not deleting projects that have stopped trading since people still have such tokens and may still be able to transact someday.

It is not the task of CMC to verify the projects. There should be separate regulations and authorities for that purpose. It is our own responsibility to make research on the project. CMC only helps us in it  with market info.

Nope, I won't say it is safe or scam. Coinmarketcap is just a listing website where the coin is listed based on their volume, market cap, price, and etc.

Nonmarketed must sort the ads which puts on the website, but not for us to judge them. They get paid for it and I think it does not matter what kind of advertising will be shown on the site.
