The short answer is it depends because not all ICOs are created equal. You have to choose pretty much in the same way that you choose who you go to bed with. Is having sex safe?

there is a distinct advantage in investing in ICO, because the exact price is below the current price in the market. is this safe? I'm also very hesitant to invest in an ICO because of the many scam ICOs of late.
if you want to participate in ICO, then do some research and see their team.

Yes, do some research, a deep research i suggest. Because if you just look at their project only, you won't know whether they are scam or not.
Join into their social media, look at the activity. if there is no update from team for long time, its time to leave them.

No investment is 100% safe, and all investment carries certain degree of risk, and the risk is much more higher to participate in ICOs. Some ICOs are backed by solid projects and management team with large followers, naturally the value of their coins will gain , a lot of ICOs are just scams, any investment with these ICOs will be total loss. To minimize risk, much research have to be done before participate in any ICO.

Right now there are many ICOs coming out, is it really safe to participate in any of it and spend that much? In participating ICOs I have high hopes that these coins could be the next Bitcoin or other currencies that are really going up in the market.
It is safe if you are genuinely ready to take on the risk. Just like stocks, if you do it enough you will pick winners and losers. Just position yourself to make the winners upside enough to overcome the losers. Because of the potential for high reward, the risk is equally high. Don't invest a lot more than you are willing to lose.

Yes you probably have summed it all up for him. Rule of thumb for investing, only invest what you can afford to lose. Other than that is non advisable.
Well OP never really clarified in what form of participation his speaking of, it can be participation in bounty programs and not investing.
Investing is also not advisable to ICOs managed by non trusted managers and dev team.

Is it safe to participate in ICO? I think personally not all ICO is safe, on the contrary many ICO scam programs and runs all Investor funds, so before you follow an ICO it would be nice to first explore the team behind the ICO program and do not all your capital, you invest in one ICO Just look for 3 ICO programs that you are interested in. It invest your funds in the three ICO so when one of the ICO is SCAM, you still have 2 expectations in the ICO.

All depends on how accurate your expectations and projections for the success of the project. But even if the project is successful, it does not mean that success will necessarily come quickly

Certainly, Investing in ICO is not safe. How can you get big profit with low risk? If you wanna be safe, let choose Bitcoin. If not, you have to accept risks.

Investing in ico at this time is an incorrect operation. In January and February, ico is losing money.

Investing in an ICO is a pretty risky thing. Take a look at the fact that there is a lot of news about failure and SCAM an ICO. This could be a reference because investing in ICO should require a lot of analysis and also very mature decisions. It will risk the money we have, because when we fail we can lose all the money we have. But when we succeed in choosing an ICO then we will be able to get a lot of profit. Believe that we must do our best, because that will determine failure and success is ourselves. We can indeed see various speculations and predictions from others, but who decides what to do is to remain ourselves.

It actually depends upon the project. Because there are those that cannot reach their target thats why the project does not become successful. But you just have to choose a project that is reliable yet interesting

I would say yes and no. Yes because ICO or let say the whole project it self is very promising and there are lot of good projects related to ICO. I say "NO" when we are talking about the whole ICO, as you said there are lot of ICO coming out, surely there will be a scam and sh*tcoin after the introduction. So make sure to do research, participate here to know more.

Just like any investment the risk is always there. If you are courageous enough to take the risk then go and participate  but plan very carefully. In any investment there is no such thing  secured.

Only the limited number of ICO are safe now. The rest are trash things that are trying to sell their raw ideas to the people. Some ICO are really consturected well and they can make things on the business sector really.
