It is not the end, in fact this is actually the beginning for altcoins, they are just getting out, they are only just getting mass attention now due to the last bull market and people realizing that they can make a lot of money from investing in altcoins. Altcoins are not dying out just yet, they are a big part of the market and without them, there would be a very big supply issue

But once more I would like to emphasize that alts were overestimated - they frequently do not bear real value and most just represent clones of the previous projects.

Like any other cryptocurrency altcoins are also volatile in nature and because of this its market price fluctuate. And their decentralised nature also put some negative effect in this price growth. Like because of decentralised altcoins production becomes irregular in some time and this thing ultimately affects the global price of altcoins. But i don't think so that it is the end of altcoins. Altcoin make impressive progress in market and according to some economist the bull run in the price of altcoins like Ethereum and ripple will be come by the end of 2019.
