Their chances are still very much there so we can't be sure whether they are championship candidates or not this season just because of a few matches. Serie A always provides surprises, especially in terms of championship competition.
In this case we might be able to refer to some seasons that have happened where clubs that seem ordinary like Bologna or maybe Lazio they can even be troublesome in the middle of the season even though it doesn't come to further competition but at the end momentum comes and goes quickly in Serie A so as long as the season still continues then the momentum of Milan's rise is still very open.

Milan's last 2 matches were decorated with good results and actually this can be a good momentum for them in maintaining the best performance, especially their points are also still not far behind so the chance is still very open for Milan.

Paulo Fonseca is still making the process with AC Milan and we cannot yet assess the true strength of AC Milan but they also cannot be underestimated.
This victory is quite important for AC Milan to catch up and also to increase the confidence of the AC Milan team even though the victory against Lecce is a natural thing because in terms of quality AC Milan is much stronger than Lecce.

After a disappointing outing in the Champions League, where they lost to Liverpool, AC Milan has come back strong with two straight wins. They defeated arch-rivals Inter Milan and yesterday won against Leece. This win moved them to second position, bending the outcome of Napoli, Juventus, Empoli and Udinese. The game yesterday was close because both teams played well but Milan used the chances they had.

After the victory against Inter in last weekend, the vibes were high what boost AC Milan and due to that, once again they able to hold their performance against strugglers Lecce and by defeating them badly with 3-0 score, now AC milan gained the 2nd position in Serie A, just one more step to the top. AC milan played gave fantastic performance,, their defenses and attacks were impressive enough and it seems, they developed themselves a lot than before. In the 1st half, AC milan gave their best effort to manage the situation and scorers Morata 38′, Hernández 41′, Pulisic 43′ made their team ahead and domaninate over Lecce. They destroyed their opponent so badly within just five to six minutes. People really appreciate Paulo Fonseca as due to his stategy and motivation, AC Milan team is flying and turning into a better team this time. In the 2nd half, lecce tried their best but no goal is scored by any of them. And at the end, another victory goes to AC milan's bag. If they can hold their such performance then something good is expected to happen

Paulo Fonseca has really proven that he can indeed bring AC Milan to better performance even though it is not from the first week of this season. But getting wins in 3 consecutive weeks is proof that Paulo Fonseca is starting to be reliable at AC Milan.

It was an important win for AC Milan.
I think AC Milan deserved 3 points today, and overall the match against Lecce was a fairly easy match to handle. In addition, the win eased the pressure on Paulo Fonseca a little, where previously he was threatened with being fired.
