I have used the Linux "Mint" releases in the past. Many may frown because it is so close in layout to Windows. Anyway, I have enjoyed it when I have used it. No steep learning curve either. Smiley

Well...I don't mind that it looks like Windows. The difference is that Mint works...all the time...like most Linux installations...and quite unlike the MS product. Tongue

I did one Linux build works very well.  But windows 7 on the right mobos works really well.

Not a fan of windows 10.

Well,I just got back fro MicroCenter with the missing pieces of hardware to complete a PC build I started a year ago. I bought 3 USB Drives and a 50 cake of 16X DVD-R as well. Maybe that will be enough to find a flavor I'm looking for. I think part of what I didn't like in Ubuntu was the Toolbar on the Left vertical side. Changing Themes would probably help but for a newbie it gets REAL with a QUICKNESS NOW.

I know this is a bit OT but, if I remember correctly, Kano is partial to RedHat?
...
I used to be partial to it - then Fedora after RedHat 9 (long ago)
Pretty much I only use it for my desktop now coz it's a pain in the ass to rebuild it from scratch to switch it to Ubuntu.
Everything else I now use Ubuntu LTS (14 or 16)

Fedora was good while cutting edge udpates were necessary.
That's long been a thing of the past now however, and stability is my main concern for servers.
Ubuntu LTS suits that well.

FWIW...when I gave up WInbloze last year I went with Ubuntu, and the 12LTS version. I upgraded to the 16.04LTS a couple of months ago, and it works fine for me...and I run a lot of rather high-end data recovery and similar apps. I've found everything I need that runs under it, and only had one driver issue that was rather easily fixed. I chose this flavor mostly because the majority of the folks I "commiserate" with use it. It's a matter of preference, as you said. Good luck.

I know this is a bit OT but, if I remember correctly, Kano is partial to RedHat? CK is 100% Linux but I don't remember seeing him ever post a flavor preference. Does Fedora qualify in Kano's book as "suitable" RedHat Distro. Is it a reasonable place for a first time foray into actual Linux distro's. I tried Ubuntu and just did not like the look, layout, etc... to go further. Need to find a Flavor that strikes a chord.
I use Debian for servers exclusively and a mixture of Ubuntu and Arch for desktops/laptops, though lately I've used Arch very little for convenience but I still like it.

Anyone who gets an A7, I would suggest a change on the advanced web configuration page:
More Options: --avalon7-nonce-mask 26
It should speed up the hash rate ramp up.

Ok done applying.

Only the above left. How do I apply it?
In the pool configuration view you should see a blank field "More options".
Insert --avalon7-nonce-mask 26
in that field.

Wohooo

Thank a lot

Yup...it does make a difference. One of the easier tweaks...  Cool

I'm glad to see you're getting there. Kano and Con are both good people.

By the way, for those of you working on getting sdcards working and other shit to get your A7s mining, you can actually run them off the master cgminer and a regular PC in the meantime. Grab the latest master cgminer, build it with avalon7 support, and plug the avalon7 into your pc/laptop and mine in the meantime until you can get your RPis working. Not only that but you'll get newer code than is on the RPi images with my improvements and bugfixes.

That's pretty awesome.  So people can run this off say a Windows PC and use teamviewer or something to get remote access to them.  I mean I'm sure there's something similar for the RPi but some people are just more familiar with Windows.

How?

Can you guide us on how to set it up?

That's what documentation was invented for:
https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer/blob/master/README

Please don't ask about windows. You'd be nuts to consider mining with windows at this point, though I will be releasing windows binary when I finally release the next version but there's no hurry to do so and it's just out of legacy that I still do so.
