Now the money is free, and so the people will be
"So stop with the chicken, voodoo, magic, crap, and stick with what is relievent."

I dont think you know how luck works huehuehue.  I'm going out with a voodoo priestess on saturday (haitian), maybe I'll ask her ? Tongue

As for the "hacking" of a pool, well, thats just dumb.  I mean Kano pays out every block - which means - the risk to the user is almost zero.  WORST case scenario, someone changes the payout address and you lose one block.  I mean, i'm sure most people on Kano pool checks the blocks/luck every day or almost Smiley  Nothing to see here, move along, keep hashing and dont forget to dance like its block friday

I feel like I have read the answer to this question some time ago but I cant find it. If I am mining at stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 , what should I use as my backup to keep mining here if the first fails?

Front page is always a good place to start. As a general rule.

I did read the front page, let me re-phrase my question: In case of a ddos attack that would affect mining at stratum:+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333, what should I use as a backup?
Another pool.
I don't recommend any Smiley

(and no - no one else use this as a reason to start discussing other pools here Tongue)

Instead you can use CKPool Solo of course if you are willing to wage battles against the monster called variance.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/yh-solockpoolorg-2-fee-solo-mining-usade-255-blocks-solved-763510

Kano,

Why not sg.kano or de.kano?  Wouldn't both of those be usable if stratum.kano is DDoS'd and unreachable?

Now mind you, there's likely additional latency involved at that point but with the speed of the pool I'd hope we'd still be OK?
The way things are currently, no, but very soon that may well be a viable option.

The reason for doing the reverse if you are near a remote node, is that the main node has, to be blunt, much more staying power than the remote nodes.
But I will say, you shouldn't depend on only one pool.

That's fair and I definitely don't.  I just wanted to make sure I understand the kano nodes setup fully.  Thanks!

No I don't really mind the chicken luck jokes and stuff related to that.

Though if a page takes too long to load coz it's full of pictures, I often decide to come back later Tongue
My browser connects through a few things to get here and can often be slow to load a page.

The Gambler's Fallacy annoyance was due to a certain person making a statement that if anyone took notice of it, it directly stated that luck was about to go down hill.
Luck is random. But if anyone had been silly enough to take any notice of him, well ... have a look at the red blocks since "427 - 392620" ... zero.
Unexpected, but again, that's simply luck.
They would have lost out on the luck we had after that red block if they took any notice of the silly "It will happen" comment and mined somewhere else.

Sorry if i annoyed you. that certainly wasnt my intention. Just wanted to get it cleared up once and for all .> for my own sake. And bringing it to the open may have helped others in their thinking as well.  Thanks for taking the time to address what you have thus far.. I appreciate it..

Again my apologies if i brought up or continued a sore subject.

It takes some smart individuals to fully understand bitcoin in its entirety.  I admit i find myself learning something new everyday.  Thanks Kano and ck for taking the time to address the questions that are technical and what you may consider not worth your time..  I and im sure many others appreciate it.  Personally i get this feeling if it comes from you guys i can trust whats being said is true.  Honest and trustworthy people are few and far between in this little world.. Thanks for that!!!

Best Regards

I notice some new info on the login pages (see below for warnings people)  Grin

Kano, you say miner password should be 'x' is this going to be mandatory or was this just to point out don't use your kano account password? i.e. is 'abc' or '123' ok? just so I know if to update all my workers or not?

Thanks.
...
No it doesn't have to be 'x', but it's easier to just tell everyone to use 'x' to avoid them using their account password.

Hi Kano,

did you switched off the bestshare info, because my miners did not respond it. (cgminer-api)
Can you send it to me. Or is it an problem with my cgminer version.

Where are the 5-Star buttons for CK-Kano-Pool?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean?

You mine to the pool as a username ... as everyone can see you finding (3) blocks Cheesy
There is no best share info on the pool for a username account.

However, the mining address account pages show bestshare coz that's the "direct from ckpool" data like on solo.

However, if you mean you have an Antminer that loses it's best share info, then that means you are running a buggy Bitmain firmware version
(I only have S1/S2/S3 versions) and to hack around that you need to change your diff in the Workers->Management page and set it to a value that's not a power of 2 e.g. if your miner is mining at 2048 diff, set it to 2052, or 4096, then set it to 5002

Thanks AriesIV10.

I've found this pool and forum support to be great.

For anyone interested I've set up a node on a VPS - https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/104.155.37.41-8333/

Now the blockchain has been fully downloaded the latency seems pretty good. Anyway, perhaps someone might find it useful for their own applications.

Cheers

Mine for a Bit
I will be bringing some more miners over here throughout the day.  Love the Humor in this forum.  We need that with all of the ups and downs of buying multi-thousand dollar machines and hoping they hash.  Great pool, Great Moderator, and in the middle of it all: a Great Pool Manager - Kano!

OK Serious question then some comments.  Why are not miners flocking here?  I mean looking around at other pools.... They are having great difficulty getting even close to 100%.

Comments...   Vortex is an idiot.   He is a 'victim' of his own stupidity.   Ignore trolls and idiots.

Enough with posting what you ate or drank already.   The chicken thing was a little funny the first couple of posts now it is worthless clutter.

The reason Kano gets bent out of shape over the gamblers falicy talk is because it is so wrong and not helpful to grow the pool.
Individual miners hash and each hash is equal in its chance of success... There is no inevitable normalizing even possible.   BUT the efficiency of the pool and its ability to get productive work to each mining machine can and does effect the overall "luck" number especially when comparing to less effective pools.  So stop with the chicken, voodoo, magic, crap, and stick with what is relievent.

vortexz, did you also use the same password on f2pool? There was a warning on their site a few days indicating that if you used the same password on f2pool as other sites, you might be at risk.

It wasn't clear if this meant that f2pool's account passwords were hacked, or if it was just a general warning.

But in any case, you really should not use the same password on multiple sites, especially when money is involved. Sorry that this advice comes too late...

Our passwords were not hacked. We issued that warning because we have received multiple reports lately and a number of bad guys are trying to brute force users' password on our site.

Well, then limit the amount of try's for that to 3 and block the ip if it is wrong....
Where is the problem?

The problem with that is that someone could then cause inconvenience by blocking users accounts. 2FA would be far better. However this is about someone else's pool, so is going a little off topic (Fear the scorn of Kano  Wink).

EDIT noticed you said block IP, that could still become an admin issue waiting for a pool to unblock IP's. unless theres a reset after x hours. however I doubt many pool operators would bother.

maybe it would be more safer if you just opened a new email with new bitcoin address and set  your miners to that?

use gmail, with 2fa enabled.

Unless his miners IP has been blocked

EDIT: Agree about the 2fa being used though as everyone should use it for additional safety.
