I have a friend that is doing the opposite of this LOL. For context, his family and friends knows that he plays casino and he has a stable source of income, he said that no one care about him for doing gambling.
There are some families that see gambling as a normal activity, while others see it as a bad activity. If you are from a family that doesn’t care if you gamble or not, then I don’t think anything is wrong with sharing gambling activities, but if some family members know that you are a gambler, then their relationship with you is going to change completely. They will start seeing you as an irresponsible person, and they will want to stop associating themselves with you. That’s why you don’t have to always make your gambling activities publicly, you should do that depending on where you’re from.

It's not that easy to keep our gambling a secret, because we know that our family (wife, husband) will first find out if we play gambling, but we shouldn't tell other people, like our own friends or relatives, because in my opinion it's very dangerous if someone else finds out.

Because people who gamble are ready to bet to lose their money and hope that victory will come, actually playing gambling is for fun. If he wins, he should be proud of the result while he loses, then he will receive grief while we gamble with our own money, I think it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't harm others.
For some people, they prefer to be known as a gambler, and for others they would not want their habits to be known by others, or even their own family. I say this based on what I have seen, they are proud of their gambling, and some are secretive. There will be many reasons why they don't want to be known as a person who gambles, one of which is the environment in which they live. We know that nowadays not all countries legalize gambling, even gambling is legal but there are designated places.

I think it will come back to their own personality, whether they are comfortable with being open or more comfortable when they are closed.
When a gambler loses a gamble, he does not want to let anyone know about his gambling and not even his family members.  But when a gambler wins big by gambling, he happily tells people about his gambling. and told this to his family.  And at that time almost everyone accepted him, and did not look down on his gambling. this is because he has money and is financially strong enough. So for someone who is financially strong, bad things become a normal thing for him. How people perceive your bad habits depends on your financial status

Yes, that's right, because in my opinion people who have a lot of money will be respected and respected around them, but if the finances are lacking then it's the other way around, and I also agree with your opinion, if you lose at gambling, it's better for us to just keep quiet so we don't become a burden and make family members sad and if we get a win we can tell about it. Yes, even though in gambling we cannot predict, at least we have tried to win and are always careful.

Usually we are more open to talking about gambling problems with friends or relatives because your family and wife will definitely be very disappointed when they find out you are already addicted to gambling, moreover your income is only enough to provide for basic needs for a small family, so we should reduce gambling activities more so that gambling is secret. it is not easy for others to guess because they find no suspicion to accuse gambling addiction. However, whenever you keep it a secret from your family, they will know it too, so before they are disappointed, think about what the next step is, stop gambling before you get addicted to gambling or you don't care about anyone because you are free to use your finances without any connection with other people.
The problem of gambling is a sensitive issue that should not be discussed openly with your wife or family in some countries where gambling is prohibited. Gambling is a privacy that shouldn't be told to anyone, you don't even have to post anything about your winnings at gambling anywhere for the same reason.

Some people pride themselves on winning and ultimately don't care about privacy, but it's something to avoid if you're not in a country where all forms of gambling are legal.
Well all these talks about keeping gambling act secret is somehow strange to me because from where am staying people actually show case their gambling habits and it's normal because it's widely excepted although not all part of my country because some religion frown at this but not where am from because I do also showcase some of winnings and have no problem at all doing that as almost every one can related properly when it's comes to gambling over here .

I totally agree. Even some friends don't understand it or share the enthusiasm. Family usually, even always, don't agree with it or even don't understand it. I think keeping it a secret from partner is sadly understandable also. You might sometimes met a stranger who understands it but usually it doesn't happen. Sharing with your partner doesn't usually end up good, when you lost a bet. They can be like 'was that really necessary?'. When you win though, boasting is never good with anyone. There is 'sharing' and there is 'boasting'. Therefore, I found it that it is usually best to just keep it to yourself.

You would really get discriminated because even family members or relatives arent really that exempted when it comes to those people who would really be that in concern of your condition and some of them would really be doing the opposite on which you havent been able to anticipate nor expect for them to do so.This is why i dont really like to say up things in regarding my problem whether in related with gambling or with those typical problems that we do have in life. This is why it would be better that you should really be that not too tacky when it comes to our own problems but if you do have that trust with your family then you could always anytime
share up your problem because this is the primary thing that you would be approach on the time that you would be experiencing problems. I agree on what others been saying that if you are living in a community which does have that huge criticisms towards gambling activity then you would definitely be keeping it as a secret and wont really be that tending to make yourself that obvious.

Not sure about secret but I would refrain from boasting especially.  To tell or discuss with others who either bet regularly or might choose to if they feel like is normal.  Its probably part of why betting is becoming so popular via sports betting or similar games where people play anyway and a few will bet on the outcome.   I dont see it needs to be a secret, be sensible with your money only spend the spare left over after paying your bills, do that and you are doing nothing wrong imo.
Choose where and to whom it should be shared. Betting is a fun thing and some people like the idea of other individuals sharing their bets, especially in sports when both parties watch the same game.
Like last month there was this neighbor who asked me if I made a bet on a very popular boxing game where titles are on the line. I was not shocked when he asked me that because we had been sharing our speculations and bets about the fight. It was a fun talk that ended with how much the odds are.
So sometimes I do believe sharing it would make a good discussion with someone else as long as both of you are on the same wavelength. With friends usually, I doubt it works with the family.

Gambling money is really easy money. Because here no one has to work hard only to stake money against some result. but there are many risks that not everyone can afford. many people are very lucky due to which they can achieve great things from gambling and seeing them, others are also attracted to gambling and dream of making easy money by jumping into gambling. This is how the gambling issue is spreading among everyone. and not everyone is able to keep gambling a secret because gambling is now considered a common thing by everyone
It is common these days, for those people that are afraid to be known that they're a gambler then they're keeping it as a secret. But as soon as someone has notice what they're up to and they can no longer hide anymore, that's how they're revealing their secret that they're a gambler despite being known in their communities that they could be a respectable person and seems to be not doing such activities. That is a common thing that's being revealed for some gamblers because they're protecting their image and there are also companies that won't allow someone who's a gambler to be part of them. It is because that knowing someone is into it, they might have just wasting their time and resource for that employee and it won't do any good not just for them but for the sake of the company that they're working for.

He's not an addict, I tell you and he has some stable income. The conclusion is we have different scenarios and flaunting it or hiding it to the public is somehow a personal decision that we all decide depending on our situation.

You mean the moment the guy is already addicted to gambling as he was caught by his wife engaging in such activity, it's a bit late already?
Yep that's a bad sign and the more disappointed the wife will be if his money was just wasted in gambling while their son stays in the library while the rest of his class eats in recess. Sad sight but it happens.

It's gonna be harder for the gambler to keep it a secret when that time comes. Some people even reveal it to their family when they finally earn a life-changing jackpot. That's not a disappointing sight but will the family condemn it?

You have a point.

It still depends on the person himself whether he wants to disclose his gambling habits to other people. Because apparently, not every place is a safe place for gamblers. There are still discrimination and stereotypes whether we like it or not. And these might be a factor why some are still hiding the skeletons in their closets. Perhaps they don't feel safe or comfortable with the idea of other people knowing their hobby or past time because they might be judged without knowing the whole context first or knowing them in depth. And we can't really blame them for that. After all, it's not our business to meddle with.

So maybe a good advice for those people who don't want others to find out their habits is that they should look after themselves. Check for patterns that might be harmful in the long run and cut it off immediately the moment you notice it. This way, you won't fall into addiction.

Indeed, such kind of activities are being criticized so maybe there are still people who doesn't want to let others to know about their gambling practices or same with you, there are some people who thinks that they are not safe if someone will know their practices, they are unsure to what might happen to them if there are people around who knows their participation.

Common with experienced gamblers who secretly enjoying, especially those who use online setup. They simply play without anyone knows about their practices and win or lose they are just discreetly playing or betting with the games they love.

Yeah, for me it is better to keep it to yourself that you are a gambler because most of the time people around you still has that stigma that people who gamble always end up being addicted or being bankrupt that's why it is good that you keep it to yourself if you knew that it is the kind of behavior of the people around you but then like you said it is good that you can share stories bout sports and some strats.

It’s much better to keep your activities to yourself. People are open to mostly criticism and condemnation from the society when they tend to always publicize their everyday lives. I think there are people who would only mostly have negative and sometimes hurtful inputs so it’s better not to give them anything to talk about.
A lot of people are hypocritical and are equally intent on shamelessly putting forth their shitty opinions on how/what someone else should do and behave.

Maybe it is not “hurtful input” from people around you. Maybe it is just so people do not want you to lose a huge amount of money by gambling it away. Additionally, there exists the possibility that you may unknowingly develop a compulsive gambling habit. You just probably don’t know it yet. If there is a certain type of people that gamble and still don’t do it as an addiction, it is probably the rich people.  they are the ones who learned their lesson quickly and that’s how they became rich.

But the people who are not so rich, do not understand that it is not a good idea to gamble with your hard earned money. Because there is a big chance that he will end up losing that money. No gambling house or casinos are made so that people go there and win money.  Those are made so that people go there and spend their time, in the end, the house always wins.

Yes, but some people feel it is better to keep their bets secret from others, especially if their environment cannot accept that they know someone is betting.

Or they don't want to brag about themselves because they have won several matches so they don't want anyone to know that they can analyze every game well until they win.

Everyone must have their own reasons, whether they will keep their gambling a secret or say that they are gambling in front of many people because that will depend on the situation and conditions of each environment in which they live.

I don't understand what the OP mean by "be proud of what you are doing". I mean how can one be proud of gambling while we all agree that it is not and should not be seen as a means of income? The two predominant religion frown against gambling and even tagged it as a sinful act. Although, some people don't care about people's opinion which is not bad but if you have regard for the religion you practice, you can not comfortably boast or proud of engaging in gambling.

So, in my opinion, I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping your gambling habit a secret. It has nothing to do with people's perception but to respect religion and not disrespecting publicly. When you offend someone and you boast about it, it triggers the anger of the person you offended but when you keep it a secret, the person might overlooked it. That's the case with gambling and hence majority can not be proud of it in a religious society.
