Actually I think Dembele is the reason Neymar won’t return to Barca - simply because nobody wants Dembele... Wink

With Messi's current age, it's just a matter of time before he decides to retire from the game and i think Barcelona were wise enough to think of the team Post Messi era and that's why they are re-signing Neymar and have brought in younger talents like Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele to ensure the future of their team.
Neymar messed up somewhere somehow. I don't even see him as Ballon D'or material. He is like one of those people who were so brilliant and had a very promising future when they were young, but then they let the limelight and fame distort there focus.

I also don't like his character sometimes on and off pitch. I mean the move to PSG was even never supposed to happen. If he wanted to become Messi's heir at Barcelona, he was just supposed to stay, learn from him then in a few years he would be the main man...but nah, Ney choose fame and money.

As  for Ousmane Dembele, that kid is a loss for Barca. He will be loaned out a couple of times, and then he will leave after Barca realize he is just a liability

Barcelona must think about it. If someday Messi is injured again or even retired.

Replacing Lionel Messi would need lots of talent and also psychological. The team over the years has grown heavily dependent on him and his absence would leave a very big space. And talent wise it would be almost impossible to get a player that would give the team what he does.

It is true, that Barcelona must think in the future. Can not just hope to messi, someday messi will retire. Will Barcelona be sad and always lose the match if Messi retires? Of course not, this is why you should think now if messi is retired. Barcelona without messi is still the barcelona I know.

If this is true, hopefully Messi will let Neymar and Griezmann carry some of the workload and responsibility.
I don't think that will happen anytime soon. Messi is like a god in Barcelona. I even have a feeling he influences the signing of players into Barcelona somehow.

The only thing that could force responsibility and workload to shift to Neymar(if he was signed) and Griezmann is maybe if Messi started getting injuries which would force him out of a number of games but we all know how rarely Messi gets injured.

There is a lot of news emerging that Neymar will end up in Barcelona. It seems, everything is agreed and it is just a matter of signature. There is no details yet but I have a feeling Rakitic will be going in other direction for sure and maybe even Dembele. It was about time for Neymar saga to end.

If this is true, hopefully Messi will let Neymar and Griezmann carry some of the workload and responsibility.

As the time passes and Neymar is not sold, this is a benefit for Barcelona.
PSG will definitely going to sell this player and what it is achieved is that Barcelona will hit a better negotiation package as the transfer window closes.

Had rumored to be leaving this summer, Isco eventually remained at Real Madrid. Isco has a way to emphasize his intention to stay in Madrid. Isco was rumored to want to leave Madrid when Santiago Solari was still a coach. But the return of Zinedine Zidane changed Isco's situation. The future of the 27-year-old midfielder in Madrid can be guaranteed from Zidane.

That is a situation that should be corrected by the team, how can a big team rely so heavily on a star player to play better or to win a match. Barcelona is a big team that should be able to overcome problems like this easily so that they remain confident when playing against Madrid later even without Messi.

Barcelona is also 'lucky' because they can get 7-8 quality players at the same time from their youth academy. Most of them already retired except Messi.

They need to find the solution asap. If not, they'll enter another phase of a trophyless season. I think what happened to Man U, Liverpool in the past, or Barca before the 04s era will happen again if Barca can't regenerate their team.
The La Masia academy like every other football academy in the world cannot continue producing world class stars at all times. Once in a while a football academy produces a group of players and they shine for the club and when the academy is no long producing top class players, they have no choice but to resort to buying talents just like every other football club.

Barcelona have brought many new players to reduce Messis workload, but each of their new players have either failed to make an impact or needed Messis help to make their presence felt. I feel they’re already working on that plan by bringing in Grizeman, and hopefully Neymar too then they’ll have two players who can help them win even if Messi is injured. @joniboini Messi will play as a player-cum-coach and help his replacement settle in before quitting football, this way he’ll ensure that Barcelona is always winning trophies.

What did I miss. I know I am not following the thread and the La Liga much but I was expecting to see Barcelona at the top. They lost one match out of two. I know it's early they lost against Ath. Bilbao!

May be few more lose will be interesting. I think last year there were not much competition for Barca. How about this year?
Yup they lost. Messi's absence usually affects them in one way or the other. If his absence stretches a little longer, i think they may drop a few more points.

Yes the last game they were brilliant but Opposition teams kind of tend to become stubborn or much more confident when they realize they are not playing against Messi.

Thats very true, the Messi effect cannot be overemphasized, what he brings to Barcelona, no player can, this makes me to wonder how Barca would cope without Messi(when he retires or leaves for another club, if possible).

Definitely Barcelona playing without Messi must have crossed the minds of those in charge of Barcelona, and I just hope they have plans to cover the loopholes that his presence would create, they have made numerous big money signings in the past years, but none has lived up to expectations.

All the info is in OP.

joined, i do not expect interesting season, Barca or Real will take the title, and we will probably know who will be the holder in march/april...
since i am a "bat" fan, expect to see Valencia in champions league fight, last season we entered fourth place with a ring bell, and this did not start well, but it will be a long season, with many teams in competition for that fourth place, first three positions are already taken, from my point of view

Lionel Messi is reportedly getting injured again. As a result, he will miss Barcelona for longer than predicted.

Messi missed Barcelona's first two matches in the 2019/2020 season. A thigh injury forced him to only be a spectator when Barca were defeated by Athletic Bilbao and ran over Real Betis.

Do we have any date when he will come back?
Barcelona is a complete team and they have players to substitute Messi, but I consider betting for draws in the matches that Messi is not going to play.
As I understand it's not new injury, he just still didn't recovered after injury. There is good thing that we will have national teams break after this weekend, so I hope that he will be ready to play after this break. Barca will have important match against Valencia, so Messi will be needed there.

Barcelona's match against Valencia without Messi's presence will be very bad will make the team suffer a lot may lead to the loss of the full mark.
