Ironic how some folks who want America to avoid being the world's policeman can get all upset when our president does not change his schedule every day that a few hundred people get killed due to a war some place.
This was not an attack on America.
Plenty of American officials have been doing their job aiding the investigation, of what happened.
AS of Thursday evening, there has not even been a confirmation that any Americans were aboard! Not that it would matter much as far as what the president should have done today.

Sen. John McCain said Thursday that he is withholding judgment on the Malaysia Airlines crash, but vowed that there would be “hell to pay” if the plane was shot down by the Russian military or separatists.
“To leap to conclusions could be very embarrassing and really inappropriate until we have more information,” the Arizona Republican told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell shortly after reports that a commercial flight carrying 295 people was shot down in the eastern part of Ukraine.
After again noting that he has not yet arrived at any conclusions, the senator said: “But if it is the result of either separatist or Russian actions mistakenly believing this was a Ukrainian war plane, I think there’s going to be hell to pay and there should be.”
“It has the earmarks of a tragic mistake made by someone who had the capability to just shoot down an aircraft, and we know at least from the last couple of weeks that that could be Russian or separatist Russian capability,” he said.
McCain on Thursday said the increased sanctions were “helpful” but that the administration’s response has failed Ukraine.
“The sanctions so far in exchange for Crimea have been miniscule,” he said, referring to the sanctions the administration announced after the Russian annexation of the Crimean peninsula. “These latest enacted by the Obama administration, I think, are helpful. But if you ask the Ukrainian government that’s struggling, they would say they need weapons with which to defend themselves.”
McCain said that he anticipated he will have more information within the next several hours.

A surface-to-air missile shot down a Malaysia Airlines flight in eastern Ukraine today, killing all 285 passengers aboard, U.S. intelligence officials have told the Wall Street Journal.
A Ukrainian official has accused pro-Russian separatists in the area of firing the missile, saying it was of the type that Russia has been supplying to the militant groups in eastern Ukraine, where the Ukrainian government has been trying to suppress militants over the past few months. The militants have denied shooting it down.
American intelligence agencies told the WSJ that they tracked the trajectory of the missile, but aren’t sure where it originated.
The Kyiv Post reports that the Ukrainian state intelligence agency, the SBU, has released recordings of Russian-backed Cossack militants talking on the phone 20 minutes after the crash, explaining how they’d shot down a civilian plane. (One of the militants is allegedly a Russian military intelligence officer.)
The Ukrainian government says that 23 Americans were aboard the plane, and that more than 300 people were killed in the crash. Indeed some stuff smells fishy, like the Ukraine's minister offering condolences and pointing fingers just a couple of minutes after the crash.
The exact setup can be a bit different than the one pointed at the video, Kiev knowing the rebels seized a BUK system could simply have everything arranged for the first minute those poorly educated on warfare rebels misfire that at some bystander commercial plane.
Yes, this is just one of the fishy things. It feels as if everybody in the west was expecting it to happen as immidiately they assigned the blame to the separatists and to Russia by extension. What about conducting an investigation first?

I don't get it. The passports were in pristine condition, yet the bodies naked?
If they're wearing loose clothing it will get ripped off when the body reaches terminal velocity around 250mph. Things like shoes shouldn't come off though. I haven't looked at the pictures yet, just saw the video of the crash site with the bodies there. Those were partially clothed.

You can massage numbers to say anything you want. There is no pattern there other than the ones people want to see. Tragedies happen and there is no rhyme or reason to it. A plane filled with civilians flew through a war zone and got shot down. That is pretty much it.

Putin was returning (flying back) from Latin America (BRIC meeting)
His plane was close to the one that was shoot down. (one of them had 15 min delay)
There is a speculation that they tried to shoot him down but they shoot at the wrong airplane.
