Well, this is my first time asking for merit.
Since the merit system was implemented, I just gave up on the ranks as the merit system, although I agree that it is necessary, seems to be unfair.
The serious users/contributors of the forum are mostly neglected unless they go around and ask for merit... in the end I think it has the dark side of favouring the older/higher ranking members in relation to newer members because it does not check if they deserve their position (obtained when there was no merit system) - and some have huge negative feedbacks, and because higher ranking members naturally receive a lot of merit from lower ranks while lower ranks are naturally neglected. It keeps the higher rank numbers under control mostly by the same people (maybe I'm wrong, but how many got promoted to hero/legendary since the use of merit system?)
In theory is a good measure, but it does not work so well...
If we want to spread crypto use and global adoption, new members need to be more than welcome.... and at the same time there is this problem of constant abuse...
Not sure on what could be done, but maybe creating a board of selected users to which the candidate could apply to ask for a review on it's rank, even if there was no merit points ? this could help in tackle the problem partly...
well, sorry for this long statement, just my thoughts...
In the end I got tired of not rising rank and decided that I should ask someone to check my contribution so that I can see if I deserve some merit or if I should change something...
well, concerning my posts, not sure what could qualify for merit, would you be so kind to have a quick scroll on my posts?

You have to correct your post with correct links.

Thanks, bro, I appreciate it. I'm still new with this kind of thing, I usually just copy paste the link and just post it as the others do, But somehow I found that you can actually post the title of the thread and when they want to go to that thread just click the thread name that you posted.

I don't know if it qualifies, but I exposed a probably new type of scam on the lending section using gdax.us.

Question though, I want to give away a free game key but don't know where to post the thread for it.

Have you contributed something of value to this forum?  Maybe you hosted a giveaway, created a project, supported another project, offered self-made goods, provided a trusted service, or helped another forum member?  If so, I'm looking for you!

Provide a link to your contribution in this thread and I will review it.  I may or may not leave merit, which is of course at my discretion.

That is a very tempting offer, but since I am the new one to the forum, could you please share what the merits give and how is it possible to send them? As for receiving, I got it so that people just give them away for supporting each other. Or maybe that was a wrong perception.

Another tip.  I'm not bilingual, so I may try to use Google Translate if you post a topic not in English, but most of the time it makes no sense so I can't award Merit.  My apologies for my lack of ability.

Also, if your post is shilling some altcoin or talking about how great companies are that have a questionable support record when it comes to Bitcoin, I will probably not leave Merit either.  Cry

Hi there, I made a thread on our Local Board (Philippines).
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/share-toybitz-the-bitcoin-explorer-5118930
I'm a bitcoin explorer, and I'm searching where bitcoin can be used by common people IRL in our country.
The thread will be updated after I'd search for another establishment.  Smiley

What a good idea. I think it will encourage members to help the community more, especially new people.
I myself hope to be one of the lucky ones.
