Tomorrow rain is expected in Imola, but most likely before the race. And rain during race probably wouldn't be good in such old-fashioned track like Imola - then we would have "race" under safety car or red flag after some crashes.

This is a concern. Normally I love wet races, there is a lot of unpredictability, and it gives the best drivers a chance to shine. Hamilton for example performs extremely well in the wet.

However... at Imola this may not be so great, because of the difficulty in overtaking. A safety car at an unlucky moment could put Hamilton or Verstappen halfway down the race order, with very little opportunity to get back to the front. Rain at Imola means there's a chance of a really weird result.

Very competetive qualifying session. I can't remember when last time gap between P1 and P8 was less than 0.5 second.

F1 Emilia Romagna GP Qualification Results

You posted a not updated result.
And I panicked when I had read your post  Grin.

The following is the correct result with Leclerc in the 4th position

Official source: https://www.formula1.com/en/results.html/2021/races/1065/italy.html

I'm a bit sad for Norris he was in the second or third place but his time got removed for passing the limit of the track

After becoming the fastest in the first qualification, finally Marc Marquez is on the 6th grid for the race at Grande Premio de Portugal 2021. It seems he is very confident even though he has been absent for 9 months. The following is a list of starting positions for the Grande Premio de Portugal 2021. Rossi is very bad, he is in 17th position. Maybe the motorbike is more suitable for Mobridelli.

A shame that the lap of lando norris did not count, he was off the track limits though so no need to complain here. Perez was ahead of Verstappen i don't remember when verstappen was beat last time by a teammate in the qualifying. In the end hamilton has the pole again of course and therefore will be the big favorite for tomorrows race again. I don't like to say that, but i am pretty sure this season will be just as boring as the ones in the recent years, because hamilton gets zero pressure from his teammate.

It was really too bad for Norris that his lap wasn't counted. He had 2 purple sectors (sector 1 and 2) and he was going to end the qualifying as the 3rd which was going to be awesome for him.
I was also surprised by Perez's getting past Verstappen and taking the second position. Hamilton couldn't improve his lap time at the end and I was expecting Verstappen to take the pole position but he surprised me by getting stuck at the third position.

In short, there is a really huge race waiting for us tomorrow. Grin

Also a ridiculous rule in MotoGP, Bagnaia a fantastic lap with a 0.4 second lead. The lap was canceled because of a yellow flag on the track, the rule is new this year and completely ridiculous. Do you have to understand this rule? Otherwise very good performance from Yamaha and Ducati, KTM apparently has big problems with the new tires.

My commentators just said that the circuits are having sensors now and every move that is illegal will be automatically seen by the sensors so yea , bit harsh but rules are rules. Bagnaia was in a different league on that lap so in my opinion he deserved the pole but once again we don't make the rules , neither do pilots but this seems like VAR from football. In 1st faze you score the goal and then the var cancelled it and it's the same story here, you make a great lap but sensors tell that you were outside the track.

At Bagnaia it was the yellow flag where everyone's round is automatically canceled, even if I don't get the point. At Vinales it was because of the track limits, during the repetition you could see with the magnifying glass that he was not outside with the front wheel, so the sensors are not reliable, there may be an objection I think.

Life, Love and Laughter...
I was disappointed with Vettel...  Once again.  Lol.  For the last couple of minutes at Q2, I really thought he was getting in at Q1 til Stroll pipped his time.  Ricciardo, Gasly and Sainz were below him at the time but I knew they would finish on top of him.  I was very surprised with Russell doing it too.  Lol.

Anyway, here’s the grid.

I also think that's ridiculous about the track limit at Norris. But good work by Perez, good to see that both RedBull are competitive this year. At MotoGP good job from Marc Marquez he qualifies for Qualifying 2.

Perez went out for his final Q2 run on another new set of softs.
... and he managed to top the charts. But at what cost?

This means he starts the race on softs whereas Verstappen and Mercs start on mediums. Which might already give Mercedes a strategy advantage... unless Perez can come top in Q3 and start from pole... and then accelerate away on those softs at the start of the race. But that seems a stretch. Starting on softs with a full fuel tank means he'll have to stop early. Advantage Mercedes already, surely? Even if Max starts in pole, if Ham and Bottas are 2 and 3, then you'd think those 3 cars would all be together, thus Mercedes control when Max has to pit, and you'd then fancy then to exploit this advantage, and then Ham to win the race.

---

Scratch all that, Q3 was a big surprise. 1 Ham, 2 Perez, 3 Max. With Bottas in 8th! And Norris was nearly on  the front row, but had his time scratched for exceeding track limits... which was very marginal, looked like a matter of a few centimetres.

Marc Márquez are back, but HRC Honda have mana problems with the bike. One fast lap is impossible and the driver go at high risk for a fast lap and so both drivers have already crashed. I also hope Rossi have today a better qualifying than at the last race.

I just placed a bet with Sergio Perez to be in top 3 after the end of qualify because Lando Norris simply had massive luck to be in 2nd after the last practice session and Bottas simply doesn't have the same joy and passion to drive in F1 so that 7th spot is a reality for him. Why did I pick Perez ? Simply because this man is working harder than anyone to adjust to the car and it seems he also likes the car.

Norris is top of the charts at the moment in Q2, albeit on the softs.

Perez looks like he's struggling a bit, behind Verstappen and both Mercs, and he's on softs whilst the others are on mediums.
If Red Bull and Mercedes are as closely matched as it looks, then the performance of the second driver is absolutely crucial. Part of the reason Hamilton won last time out was that Bottas was up there at the front, whilst Perez was not... which gave Mercedes a big strategic advantage. The same could be happening again unless Perez can step up in Q3.

A lot of laps have been deleted for track limits it will be an interesting and alarming Qualifying session for sure.

So I heard Verstappen and Leclerc crashed at FP2.  And that drivers seem to have an issue with turn 5 and 6...  And isn’t this the track where Ayrton Senna died?  It’s gonna be an interesting race knowing that.

It is the same track but they changed that turn over years.
About Ferrari.

Leclerc got the fastest time too but it has been deleted for passing the limits by centimeters.
Leclerc also got the fastest rhythm for the race  Shocked.

He also found the limit smashing in the wall.

Could be an interesting weekend for the red ones.

Yes that turn is changed after the death of the legend of F1 Ayrton Senna.Regarding the crashes both drivers said they were pushing quite a bit and when you push more than the track limits usually it does not end well.

One thing is sure based on the practice sessions so far and that is tomorrow is going to be a very beautiful race to watch.

So I heard Verstappen and Leclerc crashed at P2.  And that drivers seem to have an issue with turn 5 and 6...  And isn’t this the track where Ayrton Senna died?  It’s gonna be an interesting race knowing that.

@tokeweed where did you read or see this because when I googled ‘Verstappen and Leclerc crashed at P2’, I could not find any news about their recent crash. Also it’s worth mentioning that as per google links their last crash was in dec 2020, leaving the link below in case someone has made a rumour based on this, and you’ll could verify the truth behind this new rumour.

^  I didn’t mean they crashed at each other.  Lol.  But here’s the latest:  https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.fp2-bottas-quickest-as-verstappen-stops-on-track-and-late-leclerc-shunt.7JLxEvWK6xhcHWUNsu0l1A.html

Verstappen early retirement and Leclerc crashed at the final corner.  Mazepin crashed at FP1 too.  So it looks like that HAAS isn’t just hard to drive, the track makes it even harder to drive.

Gunter Steiner said Mazapin have to decrease the number of spins as soon as possible. Of course he is driver a new car but the number of spins is getting out of control.
