sense there maybe 6 month or more of life left mining eth i use eth to buy cards and buy some eth with light coins that i can mine with my Alchemist 256 and build a 12 card rig that way and  also mine eth with my two card rig i just build etc etc  and use my few sha256 miners and build my btc etc . ..  remember for me this is a hobby i have never ever really cared about RoI and kind of have free Electricity I pay for in other ways , so it's not free and  so far for me this strat seems to be working .

a used 290 sells for about what you sold your 390s for  but sense you cut the price to move your 390's id say about 178 to 190 ...or less     i was gonna offer but sense the 480 looks awesome I'm gonna holds off ...save the coins. if i do it right ill have just enough to get two 480 i hope then go from  there ....

I paid about a THIRD of the price of a Nano for each of my R9 290s - and achieve similar-to-HIGHER hashrate than anything I've seen reported on a Nano, abet at quite a bit more power used.

Nano is a nice card, but IMO not worth buying one to mine on despite the efficiency, as they take too long to have a prayer at ROI.

If you have OTHER uses for them, then it's a different story.

There is a copy BIOS command built into GPU-Z - it's not hard to save the original BIOS to reflash a card with for later resale. *OR* download the "latest BIOS" from the manufacture website is usually an option as well. Worst case, the folks that wrote GPU-Z have a rather large database of BIOS from various models of various cards.

Given the diff increase on ETH though, might not be worth buying new gear at all if you only plan to mine with it - making ROI is getting harder and harder - even the RX 480 by the time it shows up might be impossible to ROI unless you have free or VERY VERY cheap electric with the diff increase rate.

Do you have R9 390 as well? If so, do you think they are more efficient than the R9 290 or not?

I also want to know that. The 290 is cheaper than the 390 in the second hand market at the moment.

what is a used 290 cost?

I sold most of my used 390's for 200-210 usd

I use ethpool.org
I use claymore dual miner
I only mine Eth coin.

So far it works.

same here.

main pool ethpool, and i put failover pools to ethermine (same folks that started ethpool) - same address - simple management

I used qtminer before because of stratum, but after using Claymore.... never looked back. This Claymore Dual Miner is a gem of a miner. Lots of features, with remote management.

ETH only mining.

I used to dual mine DCR but DCR is not profitable with the extra watts its taking.

I tried SIA dual mining and so far ok.... but small money that 2nd coin for the extra watts its taking (even more compared to DCR watts)

So I will revert to ETH only.

I used some of the older cards to mine ETC last night and got a few extra bucks trading at Poloniex.

Crazy shit happeneing with ETH and ETC, but the reality is ETH will prevail. Keep calm and mine on.

I hope when ETH goes to POS..... ETC will remain at POW... :-)

ASIC rating would be what it's called - I remember running across that during my search for working copies of TheStilt BIOS series for the R9 290.

It seems to have more to do with how well a GPU can be undervolted as opposed to how well it can overclock, but probably affects both to some degree.

Talking about Stilt BIOS, where do I download a good copy?

I inherited a 290 and 290x for helping out in a project, and I was advised that its a great "sin" NOT to use Stilt BIOS on these cards  Cheesy

If you use that for Ethereum mining only, you can flash the 290 BIOS to the 290X cards to save some energy.

flash the 290s with 290x BIOS, works?

Phil you are losing ~10% of earning (compared to dual mining with SIA).

Your cards are super heavy downclocked and downvolted so increase in W for dual mining will not be critical

Just my opinion Smiley

Phil, you still on Nano pool, saw you switched a while back and I know you are on top on the pools so just checking, running 660Mh now and been mostly on Nano pool but this weekend gave Etherite a try and been good so far, he's doing a zero fee promo and looks like good backend code and pretty nice front-end. Low latency to the pool also from NE.

Just seeing where its at these days....

I sold 4 r9 390's and 1 r9 380.

I am down to 4 r9 nanos and 1 r9 390.

I am mining at nano pool and ethpool.

eth pool paid me 9.47 eth for some magic uncle/block   vs 4.95 eth coins a block.

this has been fun.

I sold all the r 390's because I want room for the 400 series .

So anyone in the usa that wants a good price for a  r9 390   from his   send me a pm.

The Nanos are really killing the 390s in terms of power consumption, size, small=less heat and could push the same MHs.
With the rom mods by Heliox, you can get more rigs with the same total amps. No brainer this.
Cant wait to take the 480/490 for a test run.... but will wait for Philip do conduct the test  Grin

yes but i would not buy one at that price, for less than half the price you can have a 970 or maybe a 390 or soemthing else, that do 130w 20MH, which is good enough for me right now

and with the new gpu coming,  i would not add ancient card anymore

I am not very proficient in GPUs. Can they be returned to original ROM since GPUs will be sold at some point?

I think there is a copy ROM command from the atiflash utilities. Reckon you can copy rom from a virgin Nano, and flash the non-virgin ones. Someone please verify.

I mined ETC + SIA the entirety of yesterday.  But some mining calculators are showing Eth as the better profit as of now...
http://calc.wolfchange.com/mining_calculator_ethereum

while the website whattomine was still showing ETC in front of ETH before  going offline 1 hour ago

Pool or solo?  If pool, where?

With my 116 MHs of hash power I'm doing pool

And as adaseb said - I'm using suprnova pool

I just checked the prices vs mining speeds and GPU mining is dead. Rip.

You killed the party!
