I am not in a good mood today - my entire ETH farm is down due to unknown power trip - spent hours going through what is causing the trip - nothing seems to be amiss but something is causing the main db board to trip.

Never had problems with the farm for many month now, until I started to run a few test rigs to do a comparison selling hash at Nicehash instead of mining ETH directly - that project is put on hold for a while until I find the culprit.

Its going to be long day tomorrow with my electrician.

I have a strange feeling... that I have to get rid of them USB risers  Angry Angry

If you have fuses in your electric system ... one might be defective and cause the main to trip. Just saying, i'm no expert Tongue

I just bought 8GB of ram.

I will install that tonight and do for further testing.

Phil, the seller is really friendly and helpful. He's even willing to ship to Canada for a replacement if I want (Wasn't shipping to Canada at first). Cool guy.

I don't mind running the 4 cards on the board.  At this moment I had to open my den slider and my back door in the garage.  The 66 f outside temp is too hot to run with doors shut.  My garage is down to 90f  running the 19 cards.  I am leaving 1 idle card at the moment. I also do not mind that.

I took off from mining today I went to Six flags great adventure with the wife and watch two shows for fright fest.  It is nice I am 20 minutes from them and have a season pass.  Wife liked it so some points for me.

I offered to take her back to tonight for another show.

I am also going to help put up a wall in the neighbors garage today in a few minutes.

Tomorrow I will go to the solar array finish setting up 1 eth rig

Phil, I sent a email to the guy who sold our MOBO and he was mining with ubuntu. Never been able to have all 6 card working with windows (not sure how did he tried).

So before I decided to do a full re-install of Win 10. Lucky me my usb key wasn't reconize, had to go with the iso way and use another program to flash my usb. I decided to give it a last try and the 6 cards was mining happy all night long.

I did some remote desktop this morning, process kind of freeze until I went to the station and everything was fine. Process unlock like 1 hour later ... strange behavior.

I did some remote just 5 minutes ago, same shit. process was running but not mining, no error ... just stuck in time.

4 GB on Win 10 seems to be quite short ...

Who is mining ETH on Ubuntu ? I need all the info to try that !

Thanks guys !

mining on linux isnt the best way to go.
gpus on linux use more power than windows
just my 2 cents

Thanks ! I will not try them.

The guy is telling me to try not to power the riser (I use PCI-E for the riser) and plug the two molex on the MOBO. It is safe ? two molex for 6 risers .... looks unsafe to me.

EDIT: I'm starting to see some stability ... will add 4 more GB to the setup (for vnc / fake locking up process). 3 Reboot, full hash power.

i was using 6 powered risers on my mobo with 2 molex plugged into the mobo just to be sure everything had power.. if the power isnt needed the mobo wont pull the extra power
right now im doing 5 card sets they seem more stable to me. so 5 powered risers one 1k watt psu whole system power is 810 watts for 137mhs

Twenty five reboots. Ugh

On my end.  The hurricane made a small leak in the solar array.

Water got into the atx running the four card z170 mobo causing a short in the mobo near the 8 pin CPU cable jack.

So,far all four gpus seem okay.
The higher end m2 ssd survived
The 8 gb ram stick is good.
The CPU cooler is good.

The CPU is yet to be tested.

The psu is toast.
The mobo is toast.

So I spent today redesigning the setup with a proper rain shield for both the s9s and the Ethcoin pc's

As of now I am running 3 s9s and 1 s7. I have the part for btc mining done.

Tomorrow or thurs I will bring another mobo over with four gpus and try again.

The new rain leak  protected setup should allow for five s9s one s7 and two four card eth rigs.

About 9600 watts

Yeah i'm starting to think the same thing, the deal was too nice to be good !! (as the usual !!)

I'm trying with a RM 1000 for the MOBO + riser and Seasonic 1200 for the cards.

So far, not good.

Suck for the water .... Sad

EDIT: Also 5 cards seems to be real good, only the 6th is testing my patience. ;-)

Thanks for the tip generalt... I just tried that and it didn't really impact ETH speed... went from like 20.72 to 20.75 per card... BUT, along the lines of what Phil just mentioned, shutting off dual-mining cut my power draw from 810 to just under 700!  I will have to do the math on the DCR piece but I doubt it makes sense with its current rate at only $1.  Also, seemed that my card temps were down as well so yet another reason to probably solo mine.

Yeah thanks again Phil, I especially liked the fan and will put it to good use. Don't need the extra SATA cable at the moment but could certainly put that to good use in the future when I build my dream personal system with multiple SSDs & HDDs  Wink

I hear you on the heat issue... not sure how you can sleep in 82 lol, I have trouble sleeping in anything over low 70's.  I have my current rig in my garage, which has no ventilation but is very cool most of the time so no issue, at least with 1 rig. Since I am in a cool weather climate in Oregon, I am really considering building a 2nd rig and placing it in my main living area for heating. Maybe it won't 100% offset what I would normally pay for extra heat but I bet it would at least come close, which means better profit margin. Fact is that I need heating of some degree 8-9 months of the year here, so definitely something to factor into the equation.

dual miner is power hungry like mad.  Just do Eth.

I bet you liked the surprise cables.  I like to do that.  Doe not cost much and we all have a little bit of kid left in us or we would not be doing this in the first place.

I got to get two of my rigs out of the house  the GARAGE is 93f!  the den is 83f the bedroom we sleep in is 82f .

that all translates to the wife will get pissed very soon.

I will post new setup for solar array  maybe on thurs.  I hope to have 3 s9's and 1 s7  along with 2 four card the rigs setup by thurs.

that is 24 amps about 5760 watts and one full circuit.  still have more circuits left.

Big shout out to Phil for sending me the extra molex cable I needed to get my 4th 470 up and running! Thanks also for the extra goodies you included Phil... really appreciate it!

So, as it stands now, I am getting just shy of 82 Mh/s on ETH and about 1300 Mh/s on DCR.  I am happy to finally have this rig running with 4 GPU's but I am still baffled at how these MSI 470's are only getting 20.7 per unit on ETH.  I have tried pretty much everything suggested in this forum and in the Claymore readme file but nothing notably effects the speed of ETH mining. I've done the following:

- Added the 5 setx lines to my .bat file
- Added the "-ethi xx" command within the command line of the .bat file. Tried it at 10, 12, 14 & 16.
- Added the "-ethi xx" command to the config file. Tried it at 10, 12, 14 & 16 in various places.
- Increased my Virtual Memory from 16GB to 24GB

None of these moved the needle on ETH mining at all... still all 4 GPU's averaging 20.7 per unit. The only thing that effected ETH speed at all, was to ratchet down DCR intensity significantly but the minimal gain of .4% (from 20.72 to 20.82) would actually be more than offset by the dramatic decrease in DCR effectiveness. On the flip-side, bumping up DCR to 35 increased its hash-rate by ~15% but only nominally effected ETH mining (less than .1%). Bottom line, nothing I've have tried so far is getting me even remotely in the ballpark of the ~23 Mh/s that others are getting from those GPU's out of the box.

I would almost just think I got a bad batch, but my 4 GPUs came from 2 different vendors (3 from Amazon and 1 from NewEgg), spread over 3 orders over 2-3 weeks, so this seems unlikely.  I really wanted to close this gap before proceeding with modding, but it's looking bleak at this point.  I am putting off purchasing a 5th GPU for this rig until I can figure out exactly how much I can improve its current performance. Frankly, at less than 21 per card, it's barely going to be profitable, especially at the ridiculous power draw it is currently at... which reminds me...

So, I have my rig plugged into a KilaWatt unit. While running the rig with 3 GPUs, it was pulling around 630-640 watts. This seemed high to me because I was thinking max of 330 for the GPUs +140 for the i7-6800k, which left about 160 watts for the Mobo, SSD, heatsink, etc. Again, seemed a bit high but not out of the realm of possibilities.

Well, here's the perplexing thing... after hooking up the 4th GPU, KilaWatt now says I am using 810 watts!  That's a 170 watt bump over the 3 GPU set-up. So, how exactly can a GPU with a max TPD of 110 watts add 170 watts of power usage?  At this rate, I couldn't even add another GPU to this rig as my PSU is 1kw.  I know I need to really dig into the power settings that have been mentioned here recently but was wondering if anyone could explain how a 110w GPU could add 170w to my power draw.

Thanks again for any tips!

'The right to privacy matters'
took me about 25 reboot to have all 6 cards running again. I'm using a double DPS-2000 PSU running at 12.16v. Might be the voltage on the card. A bit high for their clocking. I might have 2 or 3 cards sensible to that.

I will use 2 RM 1000 tonight to play with that.

The issues you are having me questioning things.
Like when I was stock mining I had 6 gpus on one 1000watt psu
It was dual too pulling almost 1300watts. Not sure how the psu didn't explode
But I didn't have any problems. I'm thinking that h81 mobo is the devil and root of all evil

It is very solid with four cards.

But herb and I got them as a great deal on Amazon.  Maybe the seller had issues and dumped them cheap
