jabo38: there was Nxt, that was released with a crappy client and no features and no marketing, so it allowed a fair distribution in first weeks. Thousandts of people were buying Nxt for 100-400 Satoshi before people realized how cool this is and a price went up

once there was a hyped coin by marketing, they called it Maxcoin: http://coinmarketcap.com/max_90.html

you should also study Coin2, it had 1000 stakeholders: http://coinmarketcap.com/c2_30.html

so Coin2 is already more fair than NEM - because everyone got it for free

I'll check into those.  Wink  I was just going by what I heard in the report.  I didn't buy my first bitcoin until 2014 (and since then watched the price drop. hahaha) But I'll take a look at Maxcoin and Coin2.  I heard some people say bad things about MAX before, but I don't know Coin2 at all.  I really wish I had been one of those people buying NXT at 100-400 Satoshi!  I put a lot of my extra money into NXT but still don't have that much and again have just watched the price go down.  Really though..... I don't care so much about the price right now.   It is exciting to be here.  It is like watching a movie of the future happen in real life!

I'm impressed! This threat is full of interesting discussion and good spirit!
Our main strength: this community!!!

I've followed a few coins some as a miner, some as an investor, but NEM certainly appears to be different. UP has put together a strong team and has created a strong vision, allowing people to get behind the movement. The number and diversity of stakeholders and the way it has been done is very open and impressive. Finally the open audit and handling of complaints, queries, ideas has been very warm and professional.

Yes, these I have felt. From this thing, I think NEM has huge development potential in the market will occupy a large proportion Cheesy

I recently read a very interesting post about somebody who spent sometime to study and analyse NXT.  One interesting conclusion was that there were just under 1000 core NXT users.  As very impressive as NXT is for its new tech, and it is very impressive (or will be when all those promises are delivered on).  The community as a whole isn't backing it.  The story behind NEM, has a lot more marketing strength.  NEM on day one will already have a much larger user base than NXT and can quite possibly explode from there.  NEM is literally the first time ever something like this has been done in the crypto cummunity.  EVERY previous coin was dominated by large investors or early powerful miners.  This may or may not be good for NEM, we will have to wait and see, but I am willing to try hard and see because I believe it is a better way.  Bitcoin's story is "an experiment that turned out quite interesting and as time went on went from being a fluke to the real deal."  NXT's story is "A guy made a really good code and 70 lucky friends and community members got in on it" (this isn't exactly true, but it will always be told like that).  NEM has a chance to rewrite its own narrative.  A group of thousands of people came together to create a new and better to deal with money, not just for themselves, but for everyone in the world.

We should have a feature where people are sending NEM (money) to each other can have a live conversation to make sure that it is the person you are sending it too. would that  be possible.?
But make it only connect to both parties who are making the transactions?

That is a great security feature.  That way people would know the receiving person is really the person they want to contact.

Risk taker & Black Swan farmer.
Been reading a lot about crypto-currency lately and I must admit all that is happening today is very interesting. A lot of things change, there's plenty of noise, but definitely some bright signal and real innovation as well. A lot of shortcomings but I think the big picture looks fairly promising.

Of all the different interesting experiments that take place right now, if we take a step back and reflect a bit at the Nem story, it really is fascinating.

Here is a visionary who is a bit frustrated with the state of affairs that surround him, sees a solution to make things better and acts upon it.
From this, a curious series of events unfolds and a compelling movement emerges. An honest movement created by the people and for the people.
As with all the great startup stories this movement begins with an idea in mind which at first seems a joke, only to discover that the joke goes through beautiful, subtle and complex metamorphosis turning out to be a very promising and potentially groundbreaking innovative experiment.
Although this is only the beginning, if we once again take a look at the big picture, from the first of UtopianFuture's posts till now this experiment has emulated an organic sort of evolution by natural selection.

This being said I am overly excited about Nem and very curios how things will unfold during the following year, and perhaps even more so thinking where a movement like this could be 10 or 20 years from now.

Just when I thought things were slowing down and we were going to  have less alt coins this week (March 30 tp April 5) we had 20 coin launched. http://www.altcoincalendar.info/calendar

I wonder when it's all going to slow down.

I tend to try and look at them all in the same light, as legitimate trying to build something, but look at how complicated and involved this Nem project is, yet these other coins are as easy as copy and paste.

As it was said before, whatever we do with the wallet and app, our most important filters should be simplicity and ease of use. I am convinced this will be one of the important things that make or break Nem in the long run.

In other words a one click install client would be just great to begin with.
I also think maybe it would be interesting for the Nem client to have 2 skins. Meaning one simple and very user friendly interface with just a few basic options and another interface for the more advanced Nem guys where all the interesting options and features are included. This is just a thought.

As i said before, i think this is vitally important.

I think it's very, very important we give people CHOICE - if they wish to have more advanced features, this option should be within the same client; not involve them having to download another client in order to get additional functionality because they're an advanced user. It's this exact thing that makes Crypto's more complicated thna they need to be. Sure, on the surface this is no big deal, but couple this with other hoops people need to jump through, the entire process gets complicated very, very quickly.

A simple option in a menu to enable or disable "Advanced user options" is all that's necessary.

This sort of reminds me of my stance between Firefox and Chrome - i find Chrome a more dumbed down experience and therefore prefer the additional options Firefox offers me (I especially dislike the fact Chrome doesn't even give you the option of choosing an install path - very patronizing, very frustrating)

In order to not piss off either party (Advanced users, casual users) we need to give them CHOICE.

Is this being given away? i saw a thread where people were requesting it

There is a waiting list and we are likely to have around 200 slots or more for the waiting list. It won't be free though. The donation/ fee should be at least higher than the last fee (0.075btc) sent in for stakeholders.

Client have to be easily accessible, meaning that general people could adopt and use it. Notebooks and desktop computers aint nowadays even used in every household, i know many folks who just mainly use their tablets and smartphones. I dont know about rest of the world, but in Finland banks have very sophisticated clients/internetbanks and with all the NFC and other mobile payments systems, competition is fierce.
Certainly NEM have to be better than those systems of we want to create complete currency system/finance platform.
We definitely shouldn't forget about smartphone users here. It's a vast and growing market.

+1000

I think a smart device wallet should be THE focus of NEM.  Apps are the way all computers are moving.  The main stream app stores started with IOS and then Android, but even now the big players are in it.  Windows now has a app store, Mac has an App store, even Ubuntu has an app store!  And for smart devices, app stores are basically the only choice, and yes, it of course needs to be one click.  Whatever the interface, the guy from Finland makes great points.  I'll be fair, I spend a lot of time on my desktop, but people like me (and probably you are dinosaurs in a way).  I am a professor in another high tech country, and basically all of my students use their cell phones as their primary computing device.  There is no going back to the desktop after this.  The focus of the NEM client should 100% be mobile.  We need to launch with a great android app, and hopefully an IOS one too.  If not an IOS app, than a portal that can be accessed via IOS.  Yes, I know this is asking a lot.  It is also the way towards success.

Personally I can't see anyone who only uses phone as their only device to be high tech people. I could see how a country like that could be a high tech country, where the casual users all have cell phones, because it's something that the culture can afford, but I wouldn't consider someone who just uses their phone and mainly checks face book, texts, and plays simple casual games to be high tech.

Totally agree with j23a on this one. More so, i assume people expect less hacking to happen on mobile devices, but that's a lot easier to be done than on the pc (of a high tech person). I'm with jabo38 on the mobility factor, but until these smart devices get a lot more secure they won't have my trust in them in terms of banking.

Something that should definitely be added when Nem is released is a MD5 & SHA Checksum, so that people can verify that the download is legit.
+1 for those that were on the receiving end of an infected client. Simple instructions and a short explanation about the security measure.

So far known fact is that client is planned on April.

An alpha is planned for the end of April.

It is still a progress.
