Pool operator of Triplemining.com
So we've been plagued with poolhoppers, that abuse our pool.  The only correct action we can take to these abusers, is to change our payment system, in such a way that it becomes less interesting for poolhoppers (and therefore more interesting for fair miners).  We are going to change our pool to a PPLNS pool.

What does this mean:

We will payout for all last N shares submitted, where N is defined as the current difficulty divided by 2.

In other words, when a block is found, we will look at the last 845450 shares, and we will divide the 50 BTC over the people that submitted those shares.  The number 845450 is half of the current difficulty and will be automatically adjusted if the difficulty rises.

- This is more fair for cpu/low power miners: you will have profit from very fast blocks, even if you could not submit a share for that block.
- This is fair for irregular miners: if you only mine at night, you will ofcourse have less chance on finding a block, and only when your pc is actually mining during the finding of a block will you receive BTC's, but you will earn much  more from a block when it falls, so in the end, statistically, you have more profits then with no poolhopping protection.  Note that your income may fluctuate even more...
- This is fair for normal 24/7 miners, as they will get more, as the poolhoppers cannot run away with any BTC's...
- This is not pleasant for poolhoppers: they will get 0 on long blocks, and a block after a long block will not gain any decent profit anymore.

So when are we going to implement this change?

Is there a way to see which pool we're part of? I supposedly joined somebody's mini-pool but there doesn't appear to be any information indicating if that really happened without asking the owner to check.

Yeah, the website is getting a lot of abuse, and was down twice for 10 minutes or so.
Thats why we moved it to a separate server a few days ago, so the website would be totally unrelated to mining.

It looks like some people are trying to update stats every second and we are having problems with that, but no worries...
We are working on it, and this will never impact mining / payouts or the find of blocks.

Request for UI updates for "Account" > "My payouts" page:

1) Can you please add "My shares" to "My payouts" table
2) and align all numbers to the right (in all tables actually).
3) If you can, pleas add a 'thousand separator' to all numbers

Thank you.

WAAAHHHH!!!!

I had moved 4 of my 5 miners off of mining over to another project.  I left the 1 mining since it's my slowest PC.  When I can home from work the power had glitched sometime during the day, so my mining PC had stopped.  After I restarted everything, I found out this had happened:

#137579 IMMATURE 50.034 July 23, 2011 1 hours 85091 Needs 93 confirmations
#137573 IMMATURE 50.07250178 July 23, 2011 19 hours 1173585 Needs 87 confirmations

I'll have to check after the confirmations are all in, but I think I didn't get any shares in the 1 hours block Embarrassed

I guess it's time to get a UPS....

When Triple Mining started, one of the advertising bits was "no poolhopping restrictions!"  As a way to boost hash rates and make the pool more successful, I suggested that MrSam implement something to take away the incentive to poolhop (such as a scoring system).  This has not happened, and with a pool of this size people can casually check and decide to hop without needing sophisticated software to do this for them.

In my view, you can't fault people for doing what is in their rational self-interest.  All you can do is to remove the incentive to poolhop in some way, but as MrSam pointed out it is difficult to do that without also causing people to leave the pool altogether.  Obviously if everyone hopped, the pool would very quickly die.  This is why I feel proportional payouts are a negative overall, especially for a pool this size with its history (some *really* fast blocks and some *really* slow blocks).

Taking away the ability to mine or to view the stats page (or even delaying the stats page) really isn't a solution, because it is easy enough to get around that.  A better solution would be (IMO) to implement a system that rewards people for not poolhopping.

Yeah, i completely agree on that.

We are looking to implement something that would reward miners that stick to this pool permanenty... More on this in the next few days

I don't mine 24/7, I only mine at night. Would I still get the reward?
