Rather ship to usa

for me i'm HODLing my gears, anyone here is thinking that NCOV19 might disrupt computer parts supply and make them all expensive in the near future?

Ethereum community lead says “ProgPoW is dead”

Aren't all of the eth ASICs going ti stop working soon?  Might get a nice bump in profit anyway.

As far as I know there are only 2 ETH ASICs out there. One is by Bitmain called the Antminer E3 which has only 4GB of memory and the other one is called the Innosilicon A10 which hashes at 500MH/s and from my research it doesn't state how much memory that ASIC has. Couldn't find any disassembly videos or anything.

Going on the official website the min order quantity is like 50 and price is $2800 each so need around $140,000 to be able to get one of their miners. Most likely no retail end users are using those miners mostly just farms.

However since the miner is newer I am assuming they included more than 4GB of memory because it wouldn't make sense to release it with any less.

~Full-Time Minter since 2016~
Seems a few of these Antminer E3 are showing up on eBay already. There are even many people bidding on them.

One of them is at $188 USD currently and claims to be able to mine "ETH/ETC" which seems like false advertising since they can't mine ETC anymore. The seller stated also "No returns or exchanges"

Another is at $1500 USD and claims to be new in the box. Anyone remember the retail price for these? Wasn't it like $800 USD when they were new? Pretty sure it will never sell.

Last one is at $278 USD and will probably go even higher as there are still over 1.5 days of auction left.

So assuming 30 days of mining left for ETH, it would make a profit of $100 assuming free electricity. With 10 cent power profit would be able half of that, $50.

The problem with eBay is that its more than likely that the buyers will just make a claim and send it back when they find out that it won't mine ETH anymore. This similar situation happened back in 2016 with the BTC halving.

i just had this asshole claim back 3x rx 480s he bought from me saying fans don’t work and these are ref models

Ebay is the worst, we have been telling people for years to not sell GPUs there (miners at all really) for these type reasons
i had a dude tell me one of my 1080ti's was "burnt and nonworking" and send it back, weeks of headache, cost me like 60$ out of pocket in the end
and i still have the card, almost 3 years later, running perfectly (as it was when i sold it to him)
ebay is full of assholes str8 up Sad
edit: i just remembered too: when the guy sent BACK my card, it had NO static sleeve on it anymore,he wrapped it IN a KITCHEN HAND-DRYING TOWEL instead and sent it back like that, i was amazed it never got damaged :O  just lol

Fail to plan, and you plan to fail.
yes, no way 50%, but MAYBE 20, and that is ALOT of hash

A ProgPOW fork is gonna be supperrr interesting! Wonder if I should scoop up some nVidia cards on eBay..

I have a bunch of GTX R9-390-8GBs in the store room --- are they any good for progpow?

ProgPow will run on most anything 8+GB really, (it runs on alot of 4gb stuff as well IIRC) its more so just a question of at what temperature and wattage Tongue
its hard alot of development from alot of different people across AMD and Nvidia, and i would imagine Claymore will throw his hat in the ring for this as well
(if i was him, i would have it rdy by launch probably?)

ProgPOW actually as an algo is memory agnostic, so it will run just as well on a 2GB card. Its just that in its current iteration in the test miners its well optimised for Cuda but not so well for GCN so does better on Nvidia cards. That can ofcource change if AMD and the miners devs work together, but seeing how dead the home mining scene is I doubt AMD is going to care.

philip, I remember in 2018 you have a lot of 1080tis, how they are working now? Same efficiency, and no RMA in your cards?
Unfortunately I had to stop mining due to my electricity price, I consider Solar but here in my country it's very expensive the parts

I have only a 1080ti that I mined a lot and still strong playing some games, it was a card ahead of time in my opinion

All of those 1080ti's have run since 2017-2018  2 - 2.5 years

All were never pushed 150 to 200 watts 50 to 70% fans.

The key was never do over 200 watts

keeping temps at 70c or less

never pushing fans hard.

I have 8 hybrids left the others are air cooled.

eth and progpow could make them really nice.

I tend to run the fans harder to keep temperature lower.

The thing with fans is the're very dependant on the brand. I haven't had a fan fail yet, a 750ti is a little sticky starting up
but then it's ok. The 750ti's are still the most efficient GPUs I have but they can't mine many new algos.

Are there any open source progpow miners out there? FOS seems to be hard to find nowadays.

You can bet that there is A LOT of Innosilicon A10 ETHMaster and Antminer E3 on network currently. I think speed (and therefore difficulty) will drop at least 50%.

I don't know about 50%. Currently 182,000 GH/s is the network hashrate, that would mean that 91,000GH/s are ASICs which if using the 180MH/s E3 miner equals around half a million of those ASICs, could Bitmain actually build that many?

We will see, if I was right, in a few months.  Wink

PROGPOW better on AMD 8GB?

I have a bunch of R9-390-8GB that can be redeployed.

It is better on nvidia  but my vega's  were decent with it.

So seems like a repeat of last Summer. Basically we had 12 days of semi-decent profit for home ETH mining and now again its reaching the point of mining revenue going mostly due to electrical costs. Only people that benefit are people with cheap or free power.

I think that the tide might turn because we have 3 events looking forward to profitable mining.

1) BTC halving - If BTC can break the 2019 or 2017 ATH then I am assuming there will be FOMO in ETH.

2) Antminer E3 - In about 40 days they won't be able to mine ETH. Hopefully there are many of these E3's that free up the difficulty

3) ProgPOW - Going live in July 2020. Should eliminate the other brand of ETH asics which are more powerful.

From what I remember about the ASIC, it used regular computer memory either DDR3 or DDR2 and it has issues getting supply of this memory. There is 18 ASICs per E3 per 4GB so about 72 DDR2 memory per ASIC. And this is old memory, probably not produced anymore. Hence they probably had issues getting a hold of it. DDR3 was just too expensive at the time.

Well looks like im ready to dump my rx 5700 rig if eth switches algos. atm rx 5700 is really good at ethash and not much else.

Rx 5700 are great at c31 and I bet they will develop a good progpal miner for them.  100 watts and 1.15 gps on c31 is great very efficient.
