Smos to nhos.

I have not got round to trying nhos.

Have you tried nhos.

I was running NHOS for a few weeks on an old ASRock H81 Pro R2.0 and Intel 3250 with (4) 5700XT and I ended up burning out 1 GPU and couldn't get the OS to function properly after the fact.

I also couldn't get NHOS to function with an ASUS TUF X570 Gaming PLUS WIFI System Board. The OS loaded and said that the cards were hashing, but just showed "pending" when I looked at the web console on Nice Hash.

I would like to add that I ended up going to Simple Miner OS after reading this thread and like it. Still have to figure out how to hash on Nice Hash... I'm currently running on Ethermine.

If you using SMOS Phoenix works with this command:
-pool stratum+tcp://daggerhashimoto.usa-new.nicehash.com:3353 -wal 12345.$rigName -rmode 2 -esm 3 -allpools 1 -estale 0

If you can get  Nvidia 3080 get it.

first choice is this card

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-10gb-gddr6x-pci-express-4-0-graphics-card-titanium-and-black/6429440.p?skuId=6429440&ref=186&loc=nvidia_6429440

the Evga's are good.

https://www.evga.com/products/ProductList.aspx?type=0&family=GeForce+30+Series+Family&chipset=RTX+3080

I think the 3080's may be a hair better.

Myself I got a few more of these 5700xt's

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WNYZJ7Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?

It has dual bios , fast shipping and the return period is Jan 31 2021

Thanks, for the info. Currently, I'm using PowerColor 5700XT's. I just replaced one of my dead PowerColors with a Red Devil yesterday under warranty from Micro Center.

Phil,

Do you suggest waiting for the release/sale of the AMD 6000 series or going with the new NVIDIA cards to anyone looking to purchase new cards?

If the 3070 is almost the same on a hash/$ ratings as a 6xxx card then I would go with the nVidia simply because their stream encoder is always worth it for resale value down the line and I assume their DLSS will be a little better than AMD's version. If you're going for maximum hash today without regard for resale then the older AMD cards seem to be best bang. Looks like the new gen is great for gamers and meh for miners - at least until tweaks have matured in a couple months.

I will keep my eyes out for a 3080.

I am also.  I'm at peak power threshold for my place.  I've popped the main circuit breaker 3 times.   I have to retire some older gpu and bring in more efficient gpus.   I've retired all my 4xx/5xx and 1060 cards.   next on the chopping block are some 1070.   I've also been switching to more efficient psu (only buying titanium now)

this is what I'm talking about, if your electrical circuit is maxed out.. you want BOTH efficiency and density. and you can upgrade bit by bit hehe

anyway platinum and titanium both have peak efficiency at around 50% load. check/compute your load and take a look at specification, sometimes platinum and titanium don't have much difference in efficiency at 50% load.

yeah i would not mind that all my cards were 3080s doing 85 mh vs my cards doing 25 to 50 mh.

It's also $1000 USD and the benchmarks AMD released today assumed you're using an AMD 5000 series CPU and new motherboard.

I think the 6800 is going to be the good AMD card for mining as of right now.

the 6900 is 1000.
the 6800 is   649.

if the 6800xt does 100mh and 180 watts it will be a great miner.

if the 6800xt does 90mh and 200 watts it is okay.

It also needs to be available.

I almost got a Nvidia 3080 at Best Buy today. but it locked out of the cart,

I was able to get two 3070 from microcenter this morning.
been playing with one.

I'm getting @59 mh eth at @108 watts from the wall for the card (Kill a watt meter reading)

Not quite sure how you are getting @108 from the wall. but that is better then the 5700xt which will do 52 at 103 which is simple's reading so that is 121 at the wall,  if you get a good one.

that's for the gpu... i have it matched with amd 3600 cpu and ddr4 2666.  i get 155 total system watts with just gpu mining.  mb is an ASUS rog strix B450-F gaming.
I have 50% set in afterburner with mem +1000 and gpu stock.

I'm also running a super flower titanium 750 watt psu.  Super flower are the same psu as evga.

this is my first card.  putting the second card in the gf computer when she goes to sleep tonight.

now one of them costs 500 the other costs 420.

So that is very close in quality to a 5700xt power color red dragon

it would take a while  but 7mh is 7 x 2.5 cents or 17.5 cents a day and maybe  2.5 cent in power so for mining eth 20 cents a day better and that is 400 days to make up the price difference.  since warranty is for 1000 days.  you can say it is a tiny bit better.

the 3080 looks to be a clear cut above the 3070. but they run 700.

so all in all a good PowerColor red dragon at 419/420 usd is competitive, but a little lesser.

realistically, if there isnt a significant improvement over the 5600/5700/xts, the blockchain versions of 5700s could be very attractive. Most stable, lowest power polaris has by far been the nitro mining versions.

nitro are premium and have historically been good. I heard good things about them.

I could not get a good price, on gaming nitro's.

I did get some good deals on the power color red dragons.  very happy with them.

I kind of want more of the PowerColor Red Dragons

Isn't it possible the Infinity Cache will improve ETH performance?  Perhaps once tweaks are done in the mining software?

Infinity Cache only makes the claimed performance improvements when you pair it with a AMD 5000-series CPU and the software/game is designed to utilize Smart Memory Access
