Missing Rohit now as India will need to make 400 runs which can be defended. 350 seems too easy to chase.
That is the truth, the grounds are small in New Zealand and they played well to chase the target. The pitch was batsman friendly and there is nothing for the bowlers, the team batting second will have the advantage in these kind of situations and to see a match with 695 runs in a match is entertaining for the audience, if the remainder of the series is played on dead pitches then the team chasing will have the advantage.
New Zealand grounds were small which is also a reason for the scoring of 347 by India and the same getting chased by New Zealand by the 49th over. In all the matches played by India, whether it is home ground or away it has got the best audience support. This truly gives boost to play better than the opponent in all conditions. The first match win will pressure up Indian team to stand equal winning the second ODI.

That is correct NZ grounds are smaller and scoring good runs are easier there. But, last match I felt bowlers were not so committed as they were earlier. There is always a psychological pressure when you are chasing, if the target is big. Scoring big runs will not help India if the ballers are not able to contain the opponent team.

It looks like a good batting surface and ground was small too. Also, the Indian side bowling performance was not that great. India still got a chance to bounce back in this series and let's see how they will perform in the next match.

India's side both openers are not experienced players and that will be a disadvantage. If they give a good start then middle-order batsman can play good and bowling need to improve the line and length. I think India needs to win next both matches to win this series.

Remembering the old matches between Aus-India where the grounds were damn good for batting and 400+ was the target throughout the series. The case here is the same where the target should be 400, nothing less.

With inexperienced opening batsmen too, they managed 347 so 400 is not a bad target but Rohit not being there matters a lot. Glad to see dube out and feel Jadhav deserves a position top the order as he is a good batsmen. I feel Rohit will again try and put Rahul up the order to try new combinations after losing the first ODI.

I really thought a 347 total was good enough to defend but NZ played brilliantly from the start, especially Taylor who managed to get 100+ runs and get a good partnership. Even Latham had a SR of 145 which made them get those runs fast and reach 300 runs by the 41st over itself after which the chase became easy. Thakur and Yadav both went for runs and from the 30th over only it looked like an easy chase for them unable to get Taylor's wicket. If Taylor had been out, the result would have been different.

This is part of play these bowlers give you 0 - 5 historical whitewash in twenty/20 games so if they outplayed in one game you cannot blame them they done good work but small ground and Taylor both stand between them as same happen in South Africa they lost test series and now play back in ODI its all about game.
That is a good comparison, South Africa too won the match chasing the total but it was a below par total and New Zealand won the match chasing a big total and with the bowlers India had i thought it was a good score to win the match for India but Ross Taylor played an incredible innings to take the team home and i am expecting Kohli will come up with a strategy for the second ODI, but toss will be the major factor as the team chasing might win the matches.

It was so worth watching this match as NZ truly played like champions ystd and ensured that they did not end up on losing side despite all the hard efforts they put in and in the end lose the match . Also Ross Taylor ensures that he only will finish the match and come. Overall NZ stopped their losing run and started to win . Things even changed for SA against England as they also started the ODI series on a winning note .

It’s fair to say that we all were left stunned by the performance produced by New Zealand players, as none of us were expecting them to thrash team India and win this match after an humiliating loss in the T20 series. It’s pertinent to note that the difference between the two team was India's old nemesis i.e. Ross Taylor, who once again rose to the occasion and made sure New Zealand salvage some pride by beating team India.
When India was able to score close to 350 runs i thought it will be a tough chase in the absence of Kane Williamson and yet they were able to chase the score easily even though they lost some wickets during the final few overs, it is good to see these kind of performance because the odds were getting lower for India as they were dominating and this defeat will have some good odds in the next match by the book makers Cheesy.

They will win great chase, i thought they would lose this match after seeing the score they need to chase. Great batting by Taylor and Nicholls. This win will boost their confidence.
Even i was expecting the pressure to consume them and make a mess and fail to chase the score as they are not having Williamson in the team.

They managed to chase down such a big total with 11 balls to spare proving that they can still win(Sometimes). Kuldeep was pretty bad though he took a couple of important wickets while Bumrah and Jadeja bowled nicely. Lets see if India can bounce back in the 2nd ODI(Most probably will).
The India bowlers were not able to contain the New Zealand batsman even with a good total on the board and India will try their best to bounce back, the odds for New Zealand to win were really high after India scored a huge total and i was not having the confidence to place a bet as i did not expect New Zealand to chase the score so easily.

NZ would be most relieved today after breaking the loss jinx and winning the match comfortable in the end. Taylor who stood like a wall helped NZ in this win along with Natham and Nicholls who also played well. Taylor for his brilliant knock of 109 not out was given Player of the match. At one time when Neesham & Grandhomme fall quickly India just could have made comeback if they would have got out Taylor during this time.

At the end Ross Taylor nailed it and Indian bowlers killed it. You cannot always blame the pitch. It was Indian bowler who did not perform. India has been again fined for the slow over rate.
This was the true highlight of Ross Taylor as he was involved in the T20 drama and on both occasions the pressure got the best of him and he was not able to take the team to victory and in this ODI he stayed till the end and took the team to victory chasing a huge score and i am glad that they showcased a better performance and now India will be coming back for a competitive series and expecting fireworks in the second one.

I blame the flat pitch for providing nothing to the bowlers. Also, boundaries in New Zealand grounds are too small for any player to hit fours and sixes so easily which is again a thing of negative for blowers. Ross Taylor's good streak against the India is still continuing and I was expecting and bet on India due to their recent performance in T20 against the same team but my bad luck today was not my day.

I guess India must need to work again on their spinners like after Ashwin, Guldeep and Chahal were doing well but now they became new Ashwins. It seems India need to bring new spinners so that they may look dangerous how they did in the last tour of New Zealand.
This was very exciting match as we have two teams done hard work but at the end New Zealand able to stop losing streak against mighty Indian history repeat here as New Zealand chase this second time first against Australia same ground same target and at the end same result Indians can bounce back now this could be good series to watch.

Its circle of time this is 10th match between these two team and Pakistan is already leading by 5 - 4 today this will be 5 - 5 in first 6 matches Pakistan was leading by 5 - 1 but recently its falls down badly just because of bad management and poor policies as this happen in PCB cricket is also going down like Squash and Hockey so this will carry on if we have some good person in management hopefully this will change again in near future.

I don't think this "good change" thing is happening any time soon. There's a hell lot of difference in the domestic structure of Indian cricket and Pakistan cricket, and after observing today's match between India and Pakistan, it's clear that Pakistan will not be able to have a good team in upcoming years. Still, PCB's new management and their roadmap are all flawed; it's time to copy/paste the structures of either Australia or England.

I highly doubt that merely copy/paste of any structure going to help Pakistani cause here, unless PCB recruit some sort of honest individuals, they no need to be 100% honest in that case but they should put country's interest first. At least avoid petty politics and select players on merit only, not because he's someone's nephew etc.

I believe that the major pillar of the structures I was referring to is "merit". So by copying/pasting, I was referring to the cloning of structure which is completely based on merit, hard work, and competitiveness.

New Zealand team are one of the best ODI team at the moment. They are making new records and today was their largest successful chase.
They'd also be knowing Indian pitches for the next worldcup. But many things could change in the next three years. And they can't always depend on Ross Taylor as he's getting older.
Don't you think that you are over-estimating NZ a bit too much just because they won 1 match against India? There are 2 matches remaining in this series and I am fairly confident that India will bounce back and win both of them.

This is the same team that defeated a team like Australia comprehensively recently. Also, NZ got decimated in the T20 series which is why they are still hurting 100%. They need to do something special if they want to win against the rampaging Indian team at the moment.

I don't understand what was missing with the NZ team in the T20s. They played so nicely today chasing a huge target of 340. In T20 their batting order choked badly in couple of matches. Is it that their team is inconsistent? In one match they go on to score 200 and in very next match they struggle to make 140 on the very same pitch.

Indian bowling lineup is not in best state. Bumrah just recently recovered and made back into team and management are trying some new chemistry each time. They are well aware of all such risks and are taking so for preparing the youngsters.

Batsman did great out there putting up a good total but bowling failed to pick up wickets.

I think India is doing too much now. What they should do is win the series and then try to experiment things. We don't want a backup team at the cost of our mainstream bowling line-up. I think it's important to make the top tier bowling set with Bhuvi, Bumrah and Shami and then keep a backup with Sharadul Thakur, Shivam Dube etc.

And they can't always depend on Ross Taylor as he's getting older.

Well they have lot of players. I think there will be lot of players right for the Taylor's slot but experience is the only worrying factor then. There are lot of players like Guptil , Latham who are dangerous and they yet have lot of years to play cricket. So even if Taylor get retired I don't think there would be much change in performances.
Just to tell that Guptill too is 33 and if Ross Taylor retires Guptill too would retire in just couple of more years or something. Moreover whatever we say Taylor has pretty much been to New Zealand what MSD was for India for pretty long. Keeping it quiet but playing important knocks in very crucial situations. So there could be change in performances.
