With KL Rahul coming as a n opener I do not think Shaw will get the chance to open. I think he will come after Virat as that where the Indian team is struggling. After Virat the batting oder is very shaky. There is a need for a stong and stable bats man after him.

In case of Pant, he got jump-start because he's talented but to keep his place in the team performance is the key and majority here agree that he needs some time off as his performance is below average for quite some time, young guy so he shouldn't worry much. Rahul looked good so far but it doesn't mean he's exceptional WK (Part time WK as @Sithara mentioned). he's looking good only because Pant failed to capitalize and we didn't see much of Sanju Samson. Everything is open for discussion, it would be interesting to see what kohli & Co decides. i am favoring Sanju in T-20 and Rahul in ODI.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the best combination if they are not looking for left hand right hand combination and with the inclusion of Prithvi Shaw in the team i am not sure where he is going to play, as you said if the team wants Prithvi Shaw to open the batting then KL Rahul will come in the middle order to strengthen the team composition.

Shaw is pure opener. and opens in Ranji, Did open in u19 World cup, Open the inning in the Test Match against Windies.

Shikhar Dhawan injured his shoulders while fielding in the last ODI against Australia and it was a freak accident while diving and these injuries does happen in the field and you cannot do anything about it and even Rohit Sharma dislocated his shoulders while fielding in the previous game and that too while diving for the ball, either they have to minimize taking risk in the field and under perform and with the competition they have now they need to be good in the field or someone will replace you.

Risk are taken by every fielder but dhawan has been stuck with injuries. I think his body is not able to take it anymore. He is good player but injuries are harming his performance.

The team management won't be much bothered. I hope that it is a minor injury. The selectors have called up Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson. These two players had performed well for India A, against the visiting New Zealand A team. But even then, it will be difficult for either Shaw or Samson to get an automatic slot in the playing XI. That is unless Rishabh Pant gets dropped.
Since KL Rahul put up an extra ordinary performance in the recent series against Australia then Pant ha lesser chance to get a spot inplaying XI and don't forget he also got injured on that series so I feel Samson will be given a chance to prove himself on oveseas condition.

Yes KL Rahul has a good chance but Pant cannot be neglected. The conditions in Newzealand are very different to what these players are accustom with and I am sure they all will be tested there.

Shikhar Dhawans injury is ill timed as he was just returning to form, and now the selectors will have to take a call whether to keep him in the team or drop him in the long term even if regains his fitness. Also I feel that Rishabh Pant will have a difficult time getting into the team lineup because KL Rahul can act as a wicket keeper, and this frees space for one additional bowler or batsmen in the team.

For T-20 IMO, Kohli should give full series or at least 3 match to Samson as WK- batsman and let's see what's he got.

Not a bad suggestion. I am not a big fan of Rishabh Pant. But at the same time, I don't like Sanju Samson either. Both of them looks over rated to me. But Samson deserves a few matches, as he was dropped after just one opportunity. Just give him 3-4 matches. If he doesn't perform, then drop him. But it is not fair to keep him out of the playing XI, after including in the squad.

If I'm not wrong Sanson was selected for the team for many matches but was always on the bench didn't get a chance to play the game. As you said, they should give a few chances to prove his talent. Indian management now got a lot of choices to select players particularly for the T20 game so if anyone doesn't perform even one or two matches then their place can be taken by someone else.

From what I have seen, it is clear that Kohli prefers Rishabh Pant over anyone, while Dhoni used to prefer Dinesh Karthik when he was the captain. Everyone have their own preferences. And KL Rahul can't be the wicket keeper for the long term, because he is not a full time keeper. He is basically a top order batsmen, who can occasionally keep wickets.

I have a biased opinion for Sanju Samson as he needs some opportunities to play and if he is not performing then he can be replaced but KL Rahul might be the ODI wicket keeper as Kohli said to the reporters and if he can keep the wickets in ODI he can very well be the permanent wicket Keeper for T20 too and before making that decision by the team management i would like to see some opportunities for Sanju Samson as he performed well in the domestic circuit.

I agree, Pant needs some time off.
I would say KL Rahul, Pant and Samson are not exceptional WK in limited over cricket but equally bad. And Pant has more experience in comparison of other 2 fellas.
Pant needs to improve his wicket keeping skills as he is dropping many chances and i am impressed with the keeping skills of KL Rahul and i am yet to see how Samju Samson will perform in the international stage but he needs to get some opportunities to showcase his skills.

In context of upcoming series. There are high chances of Pant sitting out in the ODI and Shaw opening the inning with Rohit. KL Rahul back to middle order as Batsman- WK. For T-20 IMO, Kohli should give full series or at least 3 match to Samson as WK- batsman and let's see what's he got.

There are a few factors which give Rishabh Pant the advantage over his competitors. First of all, he is young. At 22 years old, Rishabh Pant is the youngest out of all the players who are competing for slots in the Indian middle order. Secondly, Pant is preferred over the others by the captain (Virat Kohli) as well as the coach (Ravi Shastri). And lastly, his keeping is considered much better than either KL Rahul, or Sanju Samson.
Age is not a major factor when compared to factors like consistency which matter more. Pant has repeatedly failed in this department for a long period of time due to which others are being given chances no matter how much support he receives from Kohli and Shastri.

Fans wanted others to be given opportunities and Rahul made the most of such opportunities. He is my favorite wicket-keeper now with Samson as my 2nd choice. Pant needs to take a break and improve.

Yes KL Rahul has a good chance but Pant cannot be neglected. The conditions in Newzealand are very different to what these players are accustom with and I am sure they all will be tested there.

Pant even failed on sub continent pitch then his ability to shine on new zealand is pretty less. There is no doubt in that he is good striker of the ball but its not only enough to become someone renowned on international level.

He has a lot of time to prove himself and the more he plays the more he will become a mature player. As I mentioned most of these new players will be tested. Considering the upcoming T20 worldcup the team needs a stong middle order and a good wicket keeper.

In U19 World Cup March between Nz and SL , SL batting first made 242/9 in 50 overs . In response to this very interesting match NZ just manage to win this match by 3 wickets but only with 1 ball to spare . The match was very much balanced and great to watch as well .

I am quite skeptical about Nagarkoti. He has missed more than two years as a result of injury. At such an young age, if he is having trouble with injuries, then what will happen after a few years? The bowling coach is obviously going to ask him to change his action, which will result in a lack of pace. And if he loses his pace, then he may find it very difficult to remain competitive in the domestic circuit.
Every fast bowler who is bowling at that pace will have injures and so is the case with Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Brett Lee was having the same injuries even before getting selected in the Australian team, so you cannot completely write off Kamlesh Nagarkoti as he is undergoing good treatment to regain his fitness and he is just 20 years old and he does have a bright future for India.

Too many injuries happening to dhawan, not a good sign. Injuries have also hampered his performance as half of the time he is out of the match. Rahul got his oppertunity because he was injured and this might now become permanent after the world cup.
A good player getting wasted because of injuries.
