Bitfinex Made a $1.1 Billion BTC Transaction for only $0.68

When someone transferred 161,500 Bitcoin (BTC) on April 10 for a fee of only 0.00010019 BTC — approximately $0.68 — the crypto world took notice.

Thaths could be possible only in crypto.
They should implement the same fee size for bank card purchase to be honest with users.

Bitfinex to Delist 87 Crypto Trading Pairs Aiming to Improve Liquidity
https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/466

“The decision was taken after monitoring [the pairs] for six weeks and finding a consistent low level of liquidity. We take this type of action to concentrate trading in fewer pairs.”

Smart move.

I understand exchanges want to look big by offering deals with the largest possible choice of cryptos, but you have to realize that you can count on your fingers the number of cryptos which aren't sh*tcoins.

I just read this announcement from Bitfinex: https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/465
Why is there such a big announcement only because some crypto hedge fund is using Bitfinex?

i guess it's supposed to lend bitfinex some legitimacy? "this big hedge fund trusts us, you should too!"

Is this hedgefund more involved with Bitfinex than just being a customer so that this announcement is actually relevant to other Bitfinex clients (e.g. regarding risk assessment)?
I noticed from the anouncement that both, this hedge fund and Bitfinex, are tied to Deltec (the Bahamans-based bank providing banking service to Tether).

maybe fulgur alpha is really controlled by the same people who are behind bitfinex/tether, and this is their new method for pumping cryptocurrency markets. too many eyes on tether right now. Tongue

the ties to deltec don't have to be shady though. it could just be because of mutual banking connections, and for convenience and liquidity reasons.

My guess is that most customers of this size are leaving platforms rather than joining/getting on border onto platforms since the last bubble burst. A potentially nine figure customer is something that would generate confidence for other customers to create accounts and trade on Bitfinex.

When i will be able to buy new tether with bank card?

as of last month, if you have a verified account, it's already possible. https://support.bitfinex.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000051486-Purchasing-Cryptocurrencies-through-Payment-Cards

Quote
Full and intermediate Verified users will be able to choose between OWNR (for USD Tether - USDt) and Mercuryo (for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USD Tether (USDt), Algorand (ALG), Tron (TRX) and Basic Attention Token (BAT) gateways.

if you are unverified on bitfinex, you are subject to these limitations:

Quote
Unverified users will only have access to Mercuryo which will run its own verification process before allowing to purchase BTC, ETH, ALG, TRX, and BAT.

Hi all I'd like to tell what I think is a bad behavior of Bitfinex or at least a misfunction.
Well you know all the exchanges more or less have some token wallet locked.
I always check if a wallet is locked before depositing a token or coin. In my case, I wanted to deposit the "INT" token. I checked on the wallet page, and all was OK. I also could copy my deposit address, or even I was able to create a new one, but I am not 100% sure of this (i never deposited that token, this for sure).
Well the wallet was locked instead. Looks like I came on that wallet in the past (months ago) and for some reason I closed the small notification "wallet closed" on top. Support told me if you close that notify, you'll never see it again. Also after months. So, you will not be capable of knowing the status of that wallet again. Even not with an API. There is no API for wallet status!
Because of all this, I unfortunately deposited some INT token. Then I was informed that the wallet has been locked for months, and in these situations we all know it is likely never unlocked, until coin is delisted. Well, ok let's ask the support to send me back my tokens. No, it's not possibe, bwecause "the wallet is locked" . But this is a very stupid reason. If they wanted to, they could manually withdraw my coins with a manual tx. Useless to say, I've already lost a big amount of value. I consider those coins lost, but this is only another example of exchanges (not only this) behaviour.
again: I HAD NO WAY TO KNOW THE WALLET STATUS. Tehey should at least change that notification sticky deletion.
