Greetings to all translators.

For some reason, I stayed away from the forum for a long time and could only post from time to time. I would like to return to my old active days again.
I am fluent in technical crypto/blockchain terms, and I have been writing for a well-known crypto news website for 3 years.

I am unsure if he is available to do this work, but it's obvious that we can't translate a thread about open source 2FA applications which would contain, in fact, ones with closed source...

Perhaps he has been notified via bot and is aware of this situation. Let's see whether he answers and, if not, let's PM him and see what he says.

We can still wait for his input, as we still have one topic in progress... There is no rush here... But if he won't answer, perhaps DS could try to PM him, since he proposed this topic...? And if DS would like to PM him, I propose to phrase something like this: to explain that AOBTers are interested in translating his topic, as it is a useful one, but we are kindly asking him to: (1) fix the image links; (2) eliminate the part suggested by ABCbits; OR (3) in case he does not wish to eliminate that part, then tell us if he is okay if, during our translations, we will not include the section about andOTP.

-snip-

I totally agree with you. As the author hasn't said anything yet, DS, are you so kind to PM him and let us know whether he is willing to update his topic before we translate it?

Otherwise, we'll have to choose a different one, or revamp it ourselves in English first, what do you think?

So far I have gathered this much of information...

If this information is accurate, this means the respective topic needs even more adjustments... Its name is "Best 2FA applications to use. Open source, free, secure. Better than Google's". However, since Raivo and Ente are no longer open source, they clearly do not belong inside the topic anymore... Therefore, besides eliminating andOTP, OP should remove these two ones as well.

2FAS is not mentioned inside that topic, only inside a post of the topic, and it should be added as well... So as far as I see, the author needs to do some work for revamping his thread.

My only concern if about the possibility that he will not reply and, in this case, we'd be at a dead end... because we can not translate things which are not correct and, at same time, without author's consent we will also not be able to make translations which will not include all the original text... So all this can be made only with his consent...
That's why I am doing a separate research on this topic. (1) If OP fixes the errors and updates the topic, it's good for us ; (2) if he doesn't do that but gives us the permission to translate it with the fixed version, that's also acceptable ; (3) if he doesn't respond to any PM's, doesn't fix anything, totally ghosting, in that case I was thinking about making a fixed version of the topic myself, similar to what LB did with his PGP topic (of course, not plagiarism, same subject but totally unique from OP if possible). And about sending a PM to OP, I am still thinking about that, since we still have much time to spare, I'm thinking of what, how, when, where....

So far I have gathered this much of information...

I believe that both (2) and (3) are feasible solutions for this situation... After all, if the author would agree that the translations will not include this part, no matter if he wishes to keep it, then there should be no problem.

My only concern if about the possibility that he will not reply and, in this case, we'd be at a dead end... because we can not translate things which are not correct and, at same time, without author's consent we will also not be able to make translations which will not include all the original text... Since the Original Author UchihaSarada is still active on this forum, maybe we can try to contact him regarding what ABCbits said and try to make him update the topic up to date. -snip-

I find the proposed topic interesting, but if it contains errors and we're going to translate them, maybe it is not the best choice.

I took a look at this topic... as far as I see, it looks useful, also considering the people which merited OP. Indeed, the topic has multiple broken image links... perhaps OP could be contacted for correcting those links...

But at same time, I believe not all the information presented there is accurate. For example, ABCbits made the following observation. However, OP did not remove this information, as ABCbits suggested. Perhaps, if we will translate this thread, we should remove the mention of andOTP.
Since the Original Author UchihaSarada is still active on this forum, maybe we can try to contact him regarding what ABCbits said and try to make him update the topic up to date. And after the changes are made, maybe if AOBT approves this topic, then we can think proceeding with the translation. Until then it should stay in the bucket list I guess. I think this topic genuinely needs some retouch/re-update/repost at this point to be seen as complete.

But at same time, I believe not all the information presented there is accurate. For example, ABCbits made the following observation:

 andOTP - OTP Authenticator  ____ Android, F-droid

https://i.imgur.com/cgNlVqg.png
https://i.imgur.com/lH0qwtb.png

Quote
andOTP is currently unmaintained, please check GitHub for additional details.

andOTP implements Time-based One-time Passwords (TOTP) like specified in RFC 6238 (HOTP support is currently in beta testing). Simply scan the QR code and login with the generated 6-digit code.

You already quote andOTP is currently not maintained. In fact the development stopped on Jun 14, 2022[1] and the latest release was on Jun 15, 2021[2]. So IMO it's no longer best 2FA application and probably should be mentioned only as as historical information.

[1] https://github.com/andOTP/andOTP
[2] https://github.com/andOTP/andOTP/releases/tag/v0.9.0.1

However, OP did not remove this information, as ABCbits suggested. Perhaps, if we will translate this thread, we should remove the mention of andOTP.

Hey there dear Porf & AOBT gang,

Long story short, I had another topic in mind but wasn't sure if it was worth translating. The topic is rather small and mostly technical, with many broken images (imgur sucks, I know, will have to fix them one by one). But I think it deserves some light since the subject is related to security and all of us are using similar things associated with this subject (I presume). You guys be the judge and let me know.

Best 2FA applications to use. Open source, free, secure. Better than Google's

The forum of keyboard warriors & crypto pro's!
my next polish translation was also completed today.
the, in my opinion, very important topic

Great job, dear cygan! Now this topic has 10 translations and it is finished... And yes, you are definitely right, it is very important one... May those people manage to obtain as many funds us possible and bless them for all they do to help the people in need!

i was finally able to finish it today and make it available under the following link for the polish section

And congrats for this translation as well! This was its ninth translation and, also, Peanutswar informed me that he'll translate it too, thus it will be finished within a few days.

Having the above in mind, the only remaining topic we should focus on is

Here we'd need 7 more translations. The available ones are the following:

  • [Eng: Tutorial] Kali NetHunter - Linux on Android by DYING_S0UL: [GER] [POL] [RUS] [IDN] [TUR] [FRE] [UKR] [ARA] [FIL] [POR] [PID] - so this should be in the attention of cygan, zasad@ / DrBeer, dansus021 / Husna QA, mindrust, paid2, Kavelj22 / Nalain420, Peanutswar, gagux123 / r_victory, Hatcy / Chilwell

Great job guys! Cheesy

Translations into the remaining languages are still welcome, but I'm moving to the list of finished translations Wink

Thank you all for your work translating and/or searching for prior translations of the topic. I hope that we are contributing to something good Smiley

Keep up guys, only one more translation of this topic and we'll be able to consider it finished Wink

As per the new proposals, I foresee that the Kali Linux translation will be pending for at least two weeks, but it's a good idea to start thinking in the next task.
