In my country some private organisations were into this awareness creation campaign. As a result the private firms made their employees get vaccinated providing some prizes through raffles. Now a new plan is under suggestion, to cancel the contact number/Mobile number of each and every person who hasn't got vaccinated. How far this will come in real-time isn't known, but so far this is a good plan.
While that is a good act to made people vaccinated yet we cannot deny the fact that we are talking life here and we cannot just risk this for amount of money because life is valueless.

Like my mother in which having complications , we will never let Her go vaccinated because of the issue that comes from the vaccine coming from China.

And we have yet another winner, the third winner of the lottery was announced yesterday, this time the governor was with him when the news was revealed, things are progressing nicely at Ohio but after this ends there is no guarantee there are going to be more prizes after the five millions are finally distributed, personally I do not see this as a bad thing as by this point Ohio should be well underway to achieve herd immunity and the goal of the whole exercise should be achieved by now.

It could be worth asking the guy or gal if the fact that there was a lottery made any difference in the decision of taking the jab or jabs. My take is that nobody will answer that honestly yes... either you believe that the vaccine is going to be useful for you and the risk benefit is worth it or you don´t. I think this is much more about getting a "noticeable" event that will appear in the media and gain those minutes of free air time from TV than a real encouragement anyway.

$315 million in 2002

Thanks to inflation a million isnt even alot any more, dont count on it keeping you till retire and beyond really.    Best thing people can do with these sudden sums of money is work indirectly, dont spend it up front but remove all future costs so every earning you have is free and clear but you arent so removed from normal life that somehow you ironically are worse off by being less normal.
So the first thing to do with cash is pay off any future housing needs, thats practically an investment to do so.    300m would have been enough to have a nice house in every state and truly experience and live throughout your own country, what a gift because personally I dont love hotels or rate them for a real taste of a state.   Pension, healthcare coverage for decades all that will easily exceed a million as a normal cost all of us have.   Most people are crap with money, to be honest we already know this hence I'd never spend it directly.

Quote
(more than one-fourth of the population of Ohio)

A quarter run through the vaccine easily justifies the competition, sounds like its a win for all.  It could have been wasted on excess advertising which people go out of their way to ignore.   The state overall will gain from earlier productivity and less death and illness which across an entire population will save more money then the cost of this.   I wish government was always this smart really.

There will be a total of 5 winners (one every week) and 3 have been announced so far. Two more weeks remain and therefore we will get another two millionaires from this lottery.

If only the reward prize was allocated into much smaller but still decent, many will be encouraged to have a vaccine shot.

$10,000 as a base example reward is already a decent prize. With millions as a fixed price to each, only a few will have a chance to get rewarded.

But in some cases, when undeserving people get the windfall, they are unable to manage it and end up broke within a few years.

Their money, their rules. Since they got their money fairly, we aren't in control of how they will spend it. We can't also consider them calling as not deserving people since the draw was fair and square. No cheats or anything else.

That is a lot of money the government should pay to them, but that is worth attracting the interest from the people and hopefully, that can make people think, not just for their health but also for their lives.
If they win that much money, they will solve half of their financial problem, and they can get protected from the virus, and for the student, they do not have to think about their expenses.
Maybe the government can add more winner to the lottery, so people can see that their government really cares about them and wants to help them survive this pandemic.

It is a lot of money, but when compared to the money that the government is spending on vaccination (>$1 billion), it doesn't sound like a lot. And nowadays most of the US states are having surplus stocks of the vaccine, because the remaining population is mostly comprised of anti-vaxxers and the authorities have so far failed to convince these people to have the doses. If the lottery encourages at least some of these people to have the vaccine, then I would say that it is money well spent by the state of Ohio.
Exactly, this seems like a lot of money but this is only for those that are being part of the lottery when we take into account all the money that it has been spent on the vaccines and all the economic losses the pandemic has brought then this is nothing at all, while in a perfect world everyone will get the vaccine the truth is never that convenient, so if we need to give some people a little push and give them an incentive to get the vaccine I do not see anything wrong with it.

So there will be a winner every month, some people will ruin their life if they win huge amount of money which is not expected and then try to live a life of luxury and burn away the prize money in a short period of time and then end up struggling yet again and this is the theme we are seeing from lottery winners for centuries and these pitfalls for lottery winners are real.

You can't generalize the lottery winners by giving a few examples. In a majority of the cases, the winners spend their money in a responsible manner. But in some cases, when undeserving people get the windfall, they are unable to manage it and end up broke within a few years. And the media will highlight such cases, to suit their own agenda.

Sorry for the delay but a few days ago the second winner was announced, it seems he is a an Amazon delivery driver and as you may guess he does not even know what to do with the money he won, this makes sense because even if you think about winning the lottery you know the chances of that happening are very low, let us hope that he uses the money responsibly and he does not fall victim of the many pitfalls that happens to lottery winners

the first one is fine but thd second plan is horrible . its like they are forcing all of the people to do it because no one will like thier numbers get deleted as its important but in some countries ,
the sim cards are cheap and easily accesible and we also have internet . comunication wont stop and people can skip getting vaccinated .

It may work for sure and this atleast increased the people who want to get vaccinated by 10% or more. Personally I never want to get vaccinated since the side effects are still unknown and the vaccines producers are not responsible for anything happen and also I am not sure insurance will be covered for anything related to covid vaccine illness.
If many people want to be vaccinated, that program will succeed and reduce the number of people who can get infected. The side effects of the vaccine will vary for each people. I heard some of them feeling sleepy and want to get to bed, but the others do not get any side effects and they can still work as usual. My mother already gets vaccinated and she feels sleepy after vaccinated but she is okay and still healthy. I am still waiting for a calling from the government and I do not know when they will ask me to get vaccinated.

We hope that those who are not yet vaccinated can realize that vaccination is part of the government programs that want to protect their citizens.
It needs more effort from the government to convince those people so they will want to go to the hospital and get the vaccine.
It seems needs a big campaign from the government and other units to invite those people.
The lottery is one way that the government invites all of their citizens to be vaccinated and if their people do not get the lottery, they still get benefits from the vaccine.

He said he got a lot of bills to pay, so, probably, he'll go that way.

What happened with the won money being intended for scholarships? Have they changed that rule? I liked it a lot because it's mostly youth who needs to be incentivized for the vaccination, and it's the youth who needs money for education.

There are two batches of prizes in this lottery - the first one is a cash prize of $1 million for five winners, and the second batch comprises of college scholarship of $1 million for five students. The Amazon delivery guy won the cash prize, and as per my understanding he may receive around $630,000 in hand after the income tax is deducted. Yesterday's winner was Mark Cline (who won the cash prize) and Sara Afaneh (4-year college scholarship). And this week's drawing saw a total of 3.4 million entries (more than one-fourth of the population of Ohio).

Congrats to him, as an Amazon delivery driver he probably can use the money for a better life. Let's hope he won't use all of the money to buy useless things on Amazon.
He will use it for the better and that's for sure. Someone who's working hard and had this amount of money will definitely have to spend it wisely.
Just recently I read an article about a woman who won 7 Million in the lottery, and after 5 years she had to apply for state aid because she was broke. It is hard to prepare for such an event because they are so rare. I would probably invest 80% of my lottery winnings into crpytos.
Poor woman, she probably had spent it like a one-day millionaire. Didn't thought that money can easily be spent but hard to retrieve once spent.

The most well known example of a jackpot winner wasting all his winning is Jack Whittaker, who won the Powerball jackpot of $315 million in 2002. In a decade or so, he wasted all that money and he was down to the state he was prior to the lottery win. Multiple family members died of drug overdose and other issues, and he himself had a lot of issues with the law enforcement. And last year, Whittaker died from unknown reasons. This is what a sudden influx of money can do to people who are not prepared for it.

I hope United States can send the vaccine to other countries because I heard that many countries are waiting for the vaccine distribution. If the United States can do that, many people from different countries can get help and get vaccinated as soon as possible. That can reduce the number of people who can get infected because they can be vaccinated at the right time, saving more lives. It will be good news if the United States can give a lower price to the country that needs the vaccine.

At this time, when most of the countries are facing an acute shortage of the vaccine, it is unethical and immoral to hoard the vaccine doses. I don't understand the point in hoarding the vaccine doses (such as those AstraZeneca), if they don't intend to use them. And let's not forget the fact that the US government had imposed an embargo on the export of raw materials needed for the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine to India, which made the second wave of COVID 19 much worse in that country.
It is right. The United States can donate the vaccine to the countries that need it. Maybe they want to make sure that the vaccine is enough for their people and they still have more stock if somehow the other people get infected with the virus. If that embargo is not open, I am afraid that the pharmaceutical company that produces the vaccine can not send the vaccine to other countries. If that happens, we might see a worse situation in many countries, triggering an increase in the number of people infected by the virus.
