I hope United States can send the vaccine to other countries because I heard that many countries are waiting for the vaccine distribution. If the United States can do that, many people from different countries can get help and get vaccinated as soon as possible. That can reduce the number of people who can get infected because they can be vaccinated at the right time, saving more lives. It will be good news if the United States can give a lower price to the country that needs the vaccine.

At this time, when most of the countries are facing an acute shortage of the vaccine, it is unethical and immoral to hoard the vaccine doses. I don't understand the point in hoarding the vaccine doses (such as those AstraZeneca), if they don't intend to use them. And let's not forget the fact that the US government had imposed an embargo on the export of raw materials needed for the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine to India, which made the second wave of COVID 19 much worse in that country.

This is how powerful countries ensure that the pandemic stays long enough. There is an excellent video on this by VOX on Youtube. You can check the video here. It explains the reason why countries like the USA,UK and others are hoarding vaccine. It also explains the economics of hoarding and the benefit it will bring to them in the future.

That is good news. At least, congratulations to people who win those lotteries, and maybe that can attract the attention of other people who do not vaccinate to follow their step to vaccinate. If that happens, then the number of vaccinated people will increase and get more protection from the vaccine. Maybe it will be better to give that money to all people who are already vaccinated because I think that money is really worth it for those who do not have an income.
In the United States, now they are having a surplus supply of vaccine, and therefore it makes sense to take out such measures. I heard that they have tens of millions of AstraZeneca vaccine doses in stock, despite the fact that they don't intend to use these doses to vaccinate the American population (as of now, only Pfizer, Moderna and J&J are approved for American residents). Anyway, this is good news for non-Americans as well. Since there is an oversupply of the vaccine, we can expect the Americans to export some of that surplus to those countries which are facing a shortage right now.

I would probably think that this would also be a lucrative option for all those who are willing to receive the vaccine especially for those who do not have a steady income. I believe this move will increase the number of lower middle class citizen for receive the vaccine, but not for the elite. However, this step deserves appreciation.
If the government can think about the lower or middle-class citizen to vaccinated, that will make them follow the vaccination program. Besides that, United States has an oversupply of vaccines, as @Vishnu.Reang said, giving more chances to lower-class people to protect themselves. That can reduce the jealousy between the higher and the lower class people.

So far people have suffered enough financially that lottery like this will slightly stimulate people to hope for a prize even if they have to be vaccinated. This is a good step from the government to make its citizen willing to receive the vaccine so that without realizing it the public has helped the government to complete the vaccine and also break the chain of transmission of covid.

Maybe it will be better to give that money to all people who are already vaccinated because I think that money is really worth it for those who do not have an income.

So maybe sooner or later, the other states will use the same way to attract their people to vaccinated and if that can succeeds, we can see that most people will get the vaccine while they can also have a chance to win the lottery. The scholarships also help students have full funds for their school and do not have to think about how they will pay for their study. If many people want to get the vaccine, that will boost the rate of people who can prevent the virus attack and sooner or later, it could reduce the number of infected people in that country.

Almost all the states have now announced lotteries for those who have been administered vaccine doses. The California lottery is having a lower prize range ($50,000), but it has more number of winners. The first set of 15 winners were announced yesterday. The state of Washington has also announced a lottery, with a first prize of $1 million and second prize of $250,000 (for 4 people). Colorado is another state which has announced a top prize of $1 million for the winners. Incidentally all these states are run by the Democrats.

Its quite normal for some people to worry about the complications they might get once they take the vaccine. Many people in our place are also hesitant to have themselves vaccinated because they know they're fine even without taking the vaccine.

Since the number of people taking the vaccines at Ohio are increasing then it means its a success strategy. Having a chance to win million dollars are really convincing.

There is a lot of propaganda being spread through social media channels airmed to discourage people from taking vaccines. More than 2 billion doses of the vaccine have been administered till now, and only a handful of people have died from adverse reactions. On the other hand, as per the official numbers more than 3.5 million people have succumbed to CoVID 19 till now. And these are just official numbers and in many of the countries the number of deaths have been heavily undercounted (especially in India and Brazil).

In the country where I live in, there are still a handful of people who think that getting vaccinated makes you more sick. The fact that the governor had to organize and to create a fund where only vaccinated people are eligible to participate is really sad considering that this is the only way in order to reach herd immunity.

We know the behavior of politicians, since this was not their idea then they have to criticize it and say that it is a waste of funds and other ridiculous things like that, I do not have the numbers but supposing this scheme with the lottery convinced a million people living in Ohio to get the vaccine then this means that on average the governor gave 5 dollars to each person in order to get the vaccine, which in my opinion makes it the best 5 million ever spent on the history of that state.

Agreed. Opposition parties around the globe has used the pandemic to implement their goals of regime change. Here in India also, a massive campaign is going on against the governing party. The government did relatively well during the second wave, but the campaign on social media was well funded, supported by many external players. And Twitter also played it's part by flagging some of the genuine posts from ruling party ministers, while allowing the opposition party members to post their fake news.

Sorry for the delay but a few days ago the second winner was announced, it seems he is a an Amazon delivery driver and as you may guess he does not even know what to do with the money he won, this makes sense because even if you think about winning the lottery you know the chances of that happening are very low, let us hope that he uses the money responsibly and he does not fall victim of the many pitfalls that happens to lottery winners.

The article says that the Ohio governor (Mike DeWine) personally called him to inform that he won the lottery jackpot under the "Vax-a-Million" scheme. This weeks drawing saw entries from 3.2 million citizens (almost a fourth of the total population of Ohio) and it shows how popular this scheme is in that state. The opposition party members who opposed it without any sound reason should be ashamed of themselves. And vaccination numbers in Ohio are also showing a big spike. Won't be surprised if Ohio makes it to the top-5 list in terms of vaccination coverage.

If you read the articles related to the news released regarding the winners of the first lottery draw you will know, the governor himself calls the lucky winners to confirm it.  Tickets are drawn every Wednesday to win 1M and one scholarship per week.  Not all vaccinators are qualified so it is necessary to verify this first.  Is it too big to be disliked?  I don't think of that as a reason, maybe others just really don't want to take the risk and maybe they are still observing what happens next.  Because people also think differently about that, you just really need to think carefully because health and life are at stake here.  So when the right time comes for them and they have made a decision, they will also get vaccinated to their liking even without incentives.

The opposition to this measure is purely political in nature. The opposition (Democrats in this case) are having issues just because it is being implemented by a Republican governor. IMO, this is a very commendable move and the governor deserves praise instead of curse. Many other states (including tje ones rules by Democrat party) have now taken out similar measures to boost the vaccination rate. And one thing I want to specify here is that there is zero additional cost to the state treasury. The state of Ohio hands out scholarships on a regular basis. This time also they are doing it, but reserving some for those who get vaccinated.

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

What do you think of this? Do you agree with what the governor of Ohio is doing or are you against it?

Personally, I find it really sad that the government has to put up a prize pool in order to convince those people to get vaccinated.

From reading the comments, I noticed that there has been a declared winner. I do hope that whether or not he believes in the power of vaccine, this would affect people and convince them to get vaccinated soon in the future.

Congratulations to the guy. I wish him that he really would use the money wisely and not just on the things that will be spent for nonsense. Based on the interview, he seems like he's still dreaming that he just won the big amount prize money. He said that he'll use the money wisely so our hope has already been answered by him. People who have been working very well and hard deserve this amount.

That would create another encouragement I guess. The reward is so damn high.

Here in our country, specifically here in our place, some of the perks of being vaccinated are; 3% discount on gasoline stations, a discount on some stores located here, a free food package, etc. Those Ohio people are lucky to have that perks.

But don't forget that it's not just about the reward but why should we undergo vaccination. Many are still in doubt but please DYOR and not to treat vaccines as negative just because they are "rush".

I am sure they can give that money to the winner. But we do not know how many people will be vaccinated and have a passion for winning the prize. What we hope is the lottery will be honest and will give to the people who really win. Maybe some people will not want to vaccinate, which is not because of the lottery money that looks too big for them. Yes, I know that some people are afraid of needles, which is why people do not want to vaccinate.

If they can give that amount why not, they are a rich state and they think that it will have an increase in vaccination, five million dollars is a huge amount of money and it's very tempting but if a guy made up his mind and it's against his will to get vaccinated, I don't think that $1 million dollar lottery can compel him to get vaccinated, there are people who are afraid of needle and they need consultation from a physical to overcome this fear.
