This sets up this weekend's match nicely. City cannot afford to lose another match. Liverpool don't seem to want to lose and a win for them pits one hand strongly on the trophy.
Yeah, it’s definitely a game Manchester City can’t afford to lose, loosing in this game certain puts them some place out of contest for the league trophy and reinstalls Liverpool’s claim to the trophy as it seems they are on so much fire this season. There dominance is unmatched and no even Manchester City with this level of performance seems there match.
Even then, taking a win (1x2) market in this kind of game is often a risky bet. The goal market always serves better but, looking at the dire nature of the game, both teams might try to play it safe and that wouldn’t help the goal market so well.

Leading the Champions League and Premier League is not what I imagined from Arne Slot this season - but he has been so good up until now,  so I was clearly wrong about him. Liverpool have rallied and they look like a team that can't afford to lose - but it's still too early to draw any big conclusions.

The greatest thing Arne Slot has done this season is stop Liverpool's poor record against Real Madrid in the Champions League. This is important considering that so far Liverpool have always lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League. I really want Arne Slot to be able to maintain his team's performance until the title is won - but I have to realize that this season is still a long way off. There are many challenges and obstacles - but I hope Arne Slot can overcome them.

Perhaps Euro 2024 and Coppa America 2024 have some sort of effects on Real Madrid players who were exhausted in the summer with international matches, and returned to their club with not too good fitness. It's double edge of having many star players in your club because they certainly will be called for national duty.
I doubt that's the case. Both clubs have star players, so pretty much all their players feature in these international competitions. I cannot think of one Liverpool first team player that did not play a role for their country. Also those tournaments were several months ago, enough time to recover from any fatigue that caused.

No matter how good your medical team is, injuries at this level is to be expected. Style of play the different clubs adopt also plays a role.

It was a much weakened Real Madrid side without Vini and Rodrigo up front and Eder Militao at the back, but still a very comprehensive win for Liverpool who have some injury worries of their own.

This sets up this weekend's match nicely. City cannot afford to lose another match. Liverpool don't seem to want to lose and a win for them pits one hand strongly on the trophy.
It is like two seasons ago, Liverpool was in a serious injury crisis like Real Madrid now and eventually they failed to maintain good form and did not win any title even they began that season very ambitiously and played very well too. Injury crisis is not good for any club and Real Madrid medical team must work hard to prevent more injury cases in future when waiting for recoveries of current injured players.

I'm really surprised how the whole world knew that Liverpool was going to win Real Madrid because if you match both teams player to player, it is easy to say that Madrid would win.

Liverpool increases their lead to the top of the table to 8 points after Manchester City dropped points to Tottenham.

The two London clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal, continue to be neck and neck with 22 points apiece on the table.

How do you think the premier league table will be at the end of December?
If only this could have meant a lot but I guess not. The only team that seems to have handled themselves very well and archived some consistency remains Liverpool. As it is, you can see that they are enjoying being at the top of the league table with several games to maintain there number one spot. If I’m to predict what the table would look like in the coming week, it would be something like this

1. Liverpool
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea
4. Manchester City

That would be it. We could see Arsenal kicking back of recent, their defeat against Sporting CP in UCL proves it and Chelsea haven’t been any bad but, you can’t say the same with Manchester City.

Manchester City is not a "Rodri team", in the past, now and in future. He is only one player of Manchester City team, and a single player can not do all tasks, play at all positions and bring the club to winnings in matches and in tournaments or battles. Rodri is very important with Manchester City, that's true, but the team is not Rodri team.
I know that a team is made up of 11 players, but there are certain players that make a team tick and when they are absent, the team suffers. Go and check City's win percentage with and without Rodri and you will understand what i am talking about. That being said, i believe Pep can find a solution, he has to, City are too big a club to go 6 games without a win, or maybe 7 when they face Liverpool this weekend.

City should be called the "Rodri team" and it is quite bad that a team of their standard is overly reliant on a single player, if Rodri does not play, you can bet that City would struggle, he missed a few games last season due to suspension i think, and in all of those games, City struggled.

When you consider this, it may be a good thing that he's injured and the team can adapt to playing without him even if it requires losing some matches. The reality is doing these amount of matches with the squad available is terrible. Mid table teams don't regularly lose 5 straight matches avd they have a far less squad than Man City with their injuries.
Manchester City are experiencing very bad lose streak that isn't usually happen with any club and with a very strong club like them, it's unbelievable. Problems existed before they start to explode, this is true with Manchester City in this season, and if we look back, two seasons ago Arsenal were the same. They led Premier League in many weeks and months, but they had many impressive comebacks and got a lot of applause. However, these comebacks with many conceded goals, show something about their weakness in defense and at very last matches of season, they lost many points because of it.

Now to the game in question, City are winless in what? 6 games on the bounce now, yesterday's capitulation in the Champions league sums up their season so far, the players must be completely demoralized. Liverpool on ther other hand are firing on all cylinders, i see that this game can go two ways, it is either City bounce back with this game or they get embarrassed at Anfield.
All indications point to a big win for Liverpool. If they can win Real Madrid today, their energy levels will be even higher and they'll feel more unstoppable.

Btw, what's up with Pep nose scratch and what looks like scratches on his forehead? I know he's very obsessed with football, but that will be taking it to extreme levels.

Liverpool was even given smaller odd, although they played at home which could be one of the reason unless as home or away rarely matter for big teams as they can win anybody at anywhere. I don't know how Kylan Mbappe will be feeling now that he is still facing the same fate he ran away from at PSG. As it stands now, the chances of Real Madrid winning the champions league is very slim following their two consecutive losses that have placed them in a tight corner as regard to qualifying for the round of 16 except through play off.

Will see how Pep reacts with the transfer window drawing closer. Can they get a quality DM in by January with no guarantee of continued starts when Rodri returns?

The rest of the Premier League is glad with what's happening to City, nobody wants them to win 5 premier league titles on the bounce, that's definitely going to be too much. City are missing Rodri greatly, but that's not enough reason to lose 5 games in a row, that is terrible form, just after Pep extended his contract.

After so much success, i have this feeling that these players are now complacent, Pep has managed to pick them up and get them hungry for success every season, but he is struggling to do that this season. The title is not out of their reach just yet, but it will if they continue in this way.
I'm obviously happy with Manchester City's current situation - but I don't expect Liverpool and their fans to be too arrogant. The season is still too long to say too much - but I agree, winning 5 titles in a row is a bit excessive for any team in the Premier League including Manchester City.

Until this week and beyond - we don't know what will happen. Manchester City are still underperforming - even in the Champions League, so I hope Liverpool don't get so caught up in all this that they underestimate their opponents. An 8-point gap is huge - but Manchester City only need Liverpool to make a few mistakes to catch them again before the end of the season. This is what I didn't expect - I mean, Liverpool had to absorb all the pressure and play with full concentration regardless of who the opponent was.

Is it healthy for a team at this level to be so reliant on a single player and how do they cope if he doesn't return from injury at the same level he was at?

It is very hard to fully recover from an ACL injury, and then it comes with other muscle problems having not played football for close to a year, so yes it is possible that Rodri might not return to the excellent standard we know him for. City need to find solutions without Rodri.

Manchester City have not won a game since Rodri won the Ballon d'Or.
Is it healthy for a team at this level to be so reliant on a single player and how do they cope if he doesn't return from injury at the same level he was at?
The importance of Rodri was known by Manchester City and Pep Guardiola but they failed to prepare for a good substitution and replacement for this midfielder. The injury is very unlucky for Rodri but it can come to any player, and Manchester City can not blame all their recent bad performances on Rodri. I believe that if Rodri is still available for playing, Manchester City actually can have troubles too.

In recent matches, we can see that their squad has many weaknesses which were exploited successfully by their opponents. It's unrealistic and ironic to think that with many weaknesses, a single player like Rodri can fix them.

It is similar to Manchester United when they hope that Casemiro can help them, he helped in short term but in long term, he could not cover all weaknesses of other positions, and he got older and had worse performances too.

Not your keys, not your coins!
By December the table could very well remain the same but I expect the point difference between the clubs to change.

Chelsea are in good form, so I'll expect them to hold their position against the teams below trying to get into the top four.
Arsenal got a win to steer them in the right direction after a tough run, but they can maintain and build on this to possibly jump Man City to 2nd spot.

Man City are still in troubled waters and I don't see them changing that soon. As for Liverpool, they have been close to perfect and are the team to beat right now.
I believe the title race will be between Liverpool and Manchester City but Liverpool will maintain their good point difference against Manchester City. Both Arsenal and Chelsea will be able to defend their positions in top four and perhaps difference in experiences of their coaches, Arteta and Maresca, will make difference in the competition for a third position. So I think Arsenal will get a third position and Chelsea will be at a fourth position, but they will defend it solidly against Brighton and Tottenham.

Brighton won't be able to enter top four but Tottenham can, and they are a biggest competitor against Chelsea for that spot.
