With that draw they missed a golden chance to have moved forward at a better gap in points between them and Porto although seeing both teams I think Benfica is the main contender to the title.

Undoubtedly, because Porto and Benfica will play in a difficult phase for Benfica. It will be the weekend after playing the second game with PSG and before returning to play with Juventus. What will happen in the within 2 weekends.

Benfica on this journey will face Vitoria de Guimarães, a team that is always complicated and that will certainly cause difficulties for Benfica.

My hunch was confirmed.
Benfica couldn't go beyond a 0-0 draw with Guimarães. It was the first game of the season that Benfica didn't score a goal, and also the first draw, after a series of victories.

With that draw they missed a golden chance to have moved forward at a better gap in points between them and Porto although seeing both teams I think Benfica is the main contender to the title.Porto sure come back when I honestly didn't expect them to win against Braga let alone with a huge result of 4-1.

I think Braga tried to attack Porto and when you try to attack a team like Porto these are the consequences because Porto has much better players than Braga.I thought Braga would stay in defense and wait their moment but they thought why not take advantage of Porto recent bad results and that was their error.

Sporting 3-1 Gil Vicente
With 28,000 fans watching the game, Sporting won 3-1 against Gil Vicente. After several negative results for the Portuguese league, the Sporting team got a good offensive dynamic and returned to victories.

Porto 4-1 Braga
FC Porto returned to victories with a 4-1 victory over SC Braga by 4-1. A Braga that came in a series of victories and playing well, I couldn't impose on Porto that had had bad results in the last games. More was expected of Braga, but ended up suffering a heavy defeat. Let's see now, how both teams react to that result, after this game.

The main game of this round will be Porto vs Braga.

FC Porto will face a Braga that is solid in the championship and that even has more wins than Porto in the last 10 official games between the two teams.
In turn, Braga have sustained confidence in a record of eight consecutive victories in all competitions and scoring a lot of goals.

Interesting fact: In the last 43 games between the two teams, there was only one 0-0 draw (2015/16).

Benfica on this journey will face Vitoria de Guimarães, a team that is always complicated and that will certainly cause difficulties for Benfica.

We'll see what happens when Porto and Benfica face each other in a few weeks' time.

Benfica is playing great at the moment, and I do think that they are closest to title this year, nevertheless, it is too early to say that they will have good form until the end, especially bearing in mind that this season will be broken apart by World Cup

most clubs are not use to it, to have to part of the season (German league has it every season), and that could rearrange standings after WC break-up

with all said, Benfica is close to secure next stage in CL as well, leaving Juventus behind, big success, but almost expected from last year QF member

Again Porto losing points against weak opponents and I think now that they are not serious title contenders for this year as they lack 5 points in just 7 games that have been played.Maybe they are more focused on the Champions League but they started it also in a very bad way,I think that they have good players but still are not harmonized to perfection as individually they can be even a better team than Benfica who is leading the standings.Benfica though plays extremely well and its players know each other really well thus harmonization between players is what have made them perform so well both in Champions and the Primeira Liga.

In Portugal this difference is not so big as not to be achieved. Now Benfica is playing very well and that can complicate things a lot. We'll see what happens when Porto and Benfica face each other in a few weeks' time.

the problem with sporting is that they have become a team where they produce good players and sell and take the money and do not buy other good players, they are not a bad team, on the contrary they are a good team, but as long as they are with that type of movement in which they only sell their good players and don't buy good players to win the Portuguese league and get far in the champions league they will always be a team that just fights to stay in the second or third place of the Portuguese league in every season, of course there may be an exception season in which they will win the Portuguese league, but that will really be thanks to luck and it will be something that can happen in long intervals of time

Due to the fact that they were many years without winning and without being able to build a minimally competitive team, they accumulated a lot of debts. Therefore, at this moment, a good part of the profit obtained from the sale of players has to be used to pay the club's debts. Fortunately, they have managed to maintain a good balance in this regard. It also helps that they are one of the clubs with the most fans and history in Portuguese football.

The gap with the leader is already 11 points now which is too much considering that we have left only 7 weeks behind. Sporting need to start a winning streak immediately to catch up with top places. It isn't impossible for them taking their Champions League performance into account.

It wouldn't be the first time in the Portuguese league, that clubs manage to regain that punctual distance. Although at the moment it seems a little difficult, due to the good performance that Benfica and even Braga are having.

Maybe Sporting started the season badly in the Liga Portugal but things aren't the same in the Champions League. They have been performing really effectively by defeating Frankfurt and Tottenham respectively. As they have a good advantage in the group now hopefully they will start to focus on their league also.

in another match, sporting also looked difficult when facing Boavista yesterday, this loss made Sporting have to stop in 8th place in the standings.
Here Sporting even played a good game technically. But they had very little effectiveness at the time of scoring the goal. And Boavista took advantage of the few opportunities he had. In football, the team that plays the best doesn't always win.
I believe they will still recover in the league table, but they are really having a bad start to the season.

Every season we saw Sporting at the top of the points table. But Sporting's performance this season is very poor. They have only managed 10 points from 7 matches and are eighth in the table. Sporting is 11 points behind first place Benfica. So it is clear that Sporting will not compete for the title this season.

The Sporting's coach should try to stabilize the team. I have seen several matches of Sporting. Their main weakness is that their defenders are not playing well. If the defenders play well, we will see a better performance from Sporting.

Benfica took advantage of the slippage of the main opponents and added the 13th consecutive victory this season, against Maritimo. Continuing like this isolated in the first place of the league table. Braga maintained their good rhythm, with another victory, remaining in second position.

The summaries of the main games:
Benfica 5-0 Marítimo
Braga 2-0 FC Vizela
Boavista 2-1 Sporting
Estoril 1-1 FC Porto

Summary of all matches from the 7th round.
What was quite deviated from my prediction was Porto vs Estoril, unexpectedly Estoril was able to take the lead in the first half, had Porto not been awarded a penalty in the 99th minute then they would have lost.

My bet on both teams to score for Estoril - Porto won but I made a big mistake by believing in Sporting to win this match.  Cry

I predicted a difficult game for Sporting - and Boavista is always a difficult team. But I think most people didn't expect defeat, at least a draw.

Actually this match would have been in Sporting's control. They had some important goal chances while it was 0-0 but couldn't benefit from them. Boavista's first goal was really amazing and I've added a link for it below. It was a great volley by Lourenco. Sporting answered in the same way. Nuno Santos made a superb assist by a rabona. But Ricardo Esgaio made a really big mistake only ten minutes after he entered the match and caused a penalty. He was responsible for this 2-1 loss. Benfica and Braga have a chance to get away more from the others today and both of them should be able to win against Maritimo and Vizela comfortably.

Very interesting round, it doesn't happen often that 2 of 3 big teams drop points in same round, playing against underdogs. Porto ended game with Estoril 1:1.

Although it's not normal for big players to lose against small clubs. In Portugal, sometimes it's even quite common when this happens, it happens to 3 at the same time.  Roll Eyes

But Porto is really entering a complicated phase, in a series of bad results, in all competitions.
Sporting, who are even performing well in the Champions League, in the national championship things are still complicated.

Let's see today how the games against Benfica and Braga are going, who have been doing very well in the championship.

They were down 1:0 big part of game, until referee gave late penalty after Estoril played handball. So, Porto managed to take point after scoring penalty 99th minute.
Sporting continues their poor performance, now they lost to Boavista 2:1. Sporting player Nuno Santos made amazing Rabona style assist, but it didn't saved them. Though, IMO, referee later gave questionable penalty in favour of Boavista, you can judge yourself:

Now Benfica have good chance to run away a bit, they will play with Maritimo tomorrow.

It looks like both teams can really score in the Estoril - Porto match. Because the first goal came from Estoril side a few minutes before the end of the first half. There hasn't been much time since the second half started and I see no reason for Porto not to find the equalizer. They need a decent result in this match after that horrible Club Brugge loss by 4-0. Scoring one goal might be enough to bring them around and make a comeback.

On the other hand they lost to Rio Ave away by 3-1 a few weeks ago. This makes me think about if this could be another match they are losing points. Estoril are even a more challenging team than Rio Ave in the end. This will be a very difficult comeback even if Porto manage to do it. Evanilson and Taremi both are productive scorers normally. They need to take a bigger responsibility in this one.
