-snip-

My thoughts exactly - he had only 9 months at Cardiff and got them relegated. It does seem all but confirmed at the moment that he's got the job, though. Couldn't have picked a nicer guy though, and I struggle to see him having any big disagreements with any player like Mou had. Perhaps even more importantly though, it seems confirmed that Mike Phelan, who was head coach and then assistant manager for many years under Sir Alex Ferguson, is going to be coming back as Solskjaer's number two. That's as close to SAF as you can get without actually bringing back SAF.

Couples of posts going around twitter at the moment about bringing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back from Norway for the rest of the season. Loved by the fans, but a very strange choice if it did happen.
I've been reading some reports and it does seem like he's the main option right now (are they going for the Real Madrid approach? getting ex-footballers as managers?)

Tbh, that would be so random, they should get someone with at least some experience in a top league, honestly, what should fans expect from him? If the team was bad with a world class manager like Mou, imagine how they'll perform with an interim who's managerial experience is a shit season with Cardiff and a few seasons in some random team in Norway.

It was about time honestly, as much as I have liked Mourinho before his glory era went down from some time now. This is better for football in general and for Manchester United more specifically as they will be guided by a new coach and I think the players will be free from Mourinho dictatorship and as a result we will see a re-emerging Manchester United which will be an added value for the Premier League.

I am sorry for Mourinho but I am happy for Manchester United.

^  There's also another hilarious candidate.  DAVID MOYES.  Lololol.  I can see 'Moyesy Legend' banners and flags in my head right now.  Cheesy

Edit:  No.  Mou was sacked cos of Pogba.  It was either him or Mou.

I knew Mourinho would be getting the sack, but didn't see it coming this week, call it a coincidence but he was sacked from Chelsea in December on the same date. I guess his third season syndrome continues, and it's proved at Manchester United the player is bigger than the club Pogba has won his battle with Mourinho, but that Instagram picture of Pogba was horrible. The most notable candidates for short term are Blanc, Wenger, Conte, Giggs. In the long term there're only two either Poch or Zidane no one else is needed.

I mean, Moyes does still have 5 months left on his original contract, which for some unimaginable reason was 6 years long.

For now, it seems like they're going to get an interim (probably Carrick) until the end of the season.

I hear they are bringing in Big Sam to save them from relegation. Grin

A bit concerning that they are going for a caretaker for the rest of the season though? Apparently it's going to be someone external, so that rules out both Carrick and McKenna. Not sure who would take the caretaker role? Hiddink?

That would be SO funny to get Sam Allardyce! The only thing he has in common with Furguson is he chews bubble gum a lot. Manchester United have had only 1 strategy with recruitment of managers,,, to get guys who can bring instant success. They do not have patience to let a new manager take over and build something up. Mourinho still delivered. FA Cup plus Europa League Cup. It was not enough.

I do not know if any manager knowing this can take the job. Except for money. No one can deliver instant titles with so many strong competitors who took the time to build big. Maybe finally a big club will go down and down after spending so much money.

Next out. Pogba Sanchez Lukaku.

^  Yes!  Big Sam also gets my vote for United care taker manager after Wenger.  Lololol.

Damn.  United fans deserve better imo.  It's really hard not to feel bad for them, seeing the rut they're in.  Could it last decades like what went on with Liverpool?

*Checks bbc.com/sport/football*

Wups.  It's there.  Wow.  I never thought they'd really pull the trigger on Mou...  So I guess they already have a replacement in line then?  (Please let it be Zidane for the lulz!  Grin)

Mourinho has been sacked!!!

Official announcement: https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/official-manchester-united-statement-on-jose-mourinho

WOOOW!!! I definitely didn't expect Mou to get sacked before January, but i guess losing against Liverpool they way they did was more than enough for the Man Utd board. For now, it seems like they're going to get an interim (probably Carrick) until the end of the season. What are the chances of them doing any better with an interim??

Btw, Mou will get a €25m payout after getting sacked....best christmas present ever? LOL

Well still feeling a great big high from last night. I know the result was expected, the post-match commentary scathing for United, but you can never dismiss Mourinho and his wiles... even if this fox really looks too slow for the EPL now.

@tokeweed Really glad Ings is getting his due, he was loved but his bad luck with injury meant he could never hold a place and I'm glad Southampton are getting some joy from him, after VVD giving us joy... Clynie was always solid too, Lovren I'll never really be convinced but yeah I hope we never need to get another Saints guy for a while.

@micgoosens: Glad you liked your experience. There's no better match to watch for an initiation, even I have not had that chance - spheres though? I only watched telly and didn't see something of the sort.

@LFC I think you're right about the handbrakes after all! I was for the longest time wondering how it is we're stuck for so long but maybe Klopp was deliberately preparing for a long season! Maybe the front 3 form is a bit crappy because we're conserving? If that's really so and we've yet to see the best, then we're on good footing. 2 more games til mid-way season. Still a long, long way ahead but we're somewhat good in health. I just wonder when we can give VD a rest, but he still looks fit and I guess his ribs no longer hurt. Still a Wolves doubler header, Arsenal and City left to see out, before we end this 2018 gauntlet. I don't dare dream yet...

@buwaytress - I owe you a Merit. I’m out atm unfortunately. I’m going to Wolves away (the league game, not the cup game) on Friday night. It’ll be my first away game this season.

On VVD - The guy is an absolute colossus.

Remember I can put you in touch with people if you want to go to a game.

Man Utd really are shit now aren’t they! Enjoy your night my brother Smiley

As someone with a good friend who is a huge United fan, having put up with his gloating all throughout the Ferguson years, it does feel good to be able to rub this season in his face. United's goal difference is 0. They are closer in points to last place than first place. That game was much more one-sided than the scoreline suggests:

36 shots to 6. Unbelievable. United will be very lucky to finish top 6.

As predicted, Manchester United is not a tough opponent for Liverpool based on their previous performances. It is very difficult for MU to compete at the top of the standings. MU's toughness is not seen in this season. The stats above shown that MU looks more like a debutant team. What a pity!

Its now looking more likely that Liverpool and Man City are the ones to fight it out for the title this season. I'm really looking forward to seeing them face each other as the match should be very entertaining as both teams are similar styles of play. Liverpool look unstoppable right now with their brand of football which has come at the right time for them.
