Perfect way to make a fresh start, I guess  Grin

Ratimov's reputation already being soiled, a start over is the only likely option. He will just create a new profile, hunt for merits like he did before. The good thing is that he already has some good experience. A few thousands of merits shouldn't be hard in some months, and just try to stay out of radar.

With the kind of ego he had. I don't think he is gone for now.
I don't know about him being able to do the same thing because I'm sure that people will notice, that kind of posting style wouldn't be unnoticeable right? The way he starts paragraphs and the frequency of his post right. That seems to be the sentiment of everyone about Ratimov abandoning the account, kind of like a spit in everyone's face here that he can forsake that account no matter how much reputation it has on it in terms of merits. Definitely not gone for good but it's not really a good thing for us to speculate that and continue to be haunted by him, doing that creates a feeling that he's living rent free in our heads.

That could be the logical way to return to the forum but what are the chances he never left the forum at all? Signing an address will not do anything now regardless. If he had several accounts operating at the same time (as reluctant as it must have been for him to give up on the Ratimov account), he could be using them now without any of us knowing about it.

It remains unknown if he is already doing that how many members would dismiss it as a possibility. Losing the rank also means loss of money from signature campaigns therefore maybe he took precautions. What is certain is that after being here a number of years and earning money every week for such a long time, it would not be a surprise if members have more than one account with they are not announcing.

Why would he want to do that? To prove that he is the same madman who ruined a premium account, top 5 in merit earned, in record time? If he wants to come back to the forum the most logical thing to do would be with another account, if he doesn't have one already.

How exactly? I mean what's the process? I am not familiar with this thing called "Autoban" and stuff. Just wanted to know how this works, as a curious person.
Check this

PSA: Account will be locked if a secret question is used to recover it.

The easiest way would be to sign a staked address, which he deleted.
It will not be deleted from all forum database soon. A curious question. Will a deleted post for a staked address can be used for account recovery. I guess it is first time this is raised in the forum because this case seems to be special. It is a question with an extra condition, no user quoted it which is another barely seen case too (people usually quoted the staked message).

if he ever decides to recover the account, he would need concrete evidence to prove his identity in order to get the account back.

Anyone could instantly autoban themselves by setting a secret question and attempting to fill it in during login, though.

I know the reason why he did it, he wanted to show that he didn't sell the account, which makes the red tags on him invalid, now if he ever decides to recover the account, he would need concrete evidence to prove his identity in order to get the account back.
IMO, by the act of Harakiri, he has redeemed himself from the sins of his past, in my book from now on, he is a respected member, because what he did is worth ten times of any apologies he could have ever come up with. I don't expect trust abusers like PP to take necessary action and remove their tag, hopefully others which are reasonable DTs could see to it and correct their tags accordingly.

However, there is still the matter of the sponsorship, that, I can find no valid excuses for.

Just check out Ratimov BPIP profile, he obviously locked his account with via secret question trigger on December 29.
For someone who is allegedly died account he knows very well how forum is working, and he looks very much alive.
Anyway, it's finally time to stop talking about him.

It is saved in Security Log: https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php

I don't know why the user had to change password many times like this within a few days.

I read some posts that guessed a possible ban reason is deletion of many posts. I don't think it is reason because years ago, in the forum, there is another user in Wall Observer, did the same, but was not banned. It's impossible for any user to be banned because of post deletion.

If you pay attention to his actions, he just committed Harakiri, a form of suicide(online kind) to restore his honour. He didn't keep misbehaving like he did apparantly in the past, instead he did what every man would do, fell on his sword.

If one thing I'd admire about him, is the fact that he was not only bullying the weak, but he was bullying the other bullies, only if knew when to stop.

Kind of like "vampires" when they taste blood, it'd require so much effort to stop before draining the victims dry. He needed a good teacher, wish I got to know him sooner. 😉

It seems to be an autoban for being PossiblyCompromised.
I thought that would wipe the signature by default.

Nope. That's only a manual full ban. The account is essentially just locked right now.

Maybe the kind of ban is similar to what Harizen got?
The account got compromised and started spreading malware, the user was banned, but his signature stayed on as currently seen on his profile.

If that's the case, it makes sense: he'll request to recover his hacked account and the drama/attention continues.

A bit OT but, has it ever been really discussed why the forum itself does not show banned users and why?
I know I have brought it up in the past, that knowing why would probably not be a bad thing, but was there ever any internal discussions as why not to show it?

-Dave
Probably the same reason the forum won't display negative feedback in certain discussion boards and to Guest users

Maybe they want users to have an unbiased feel when reading through useful content that was previously posted by an account that has since been banned. When reading some content, as soon as one sees that the poster was banned, there's away one's perception does not remain the same. Similar thing happens when one see the negative feedback.

The user Symmetrick has been banned, so haters of this user can breathe a sigh of relief. So discussion of this issue has lost its relevance.

I don't know why the forum doesn't show this kind of information to all users. I think theymos thinks that displaying such information to everyone is unnecessary. That this information is only for the staff. And yes, this issue was not discussed in the moderators section.

Imho, his recent actions confirms that Ratimov never sold his account (as many suspected he did) as no sane person would pay for an account and then do what he is doing, spending God knows how many hours deleting 10k+ posts.
It depends on what we mean by the word sale. Another person wrote from the account. No one knows whether he sold it or gave it away or gave it to use. But another person wrote from the account. Perhaps there were several people behind the account and they had a conflict.
