My point is, politics is never about the truth, but about "public perception." What makes you a gambler? You or other people's opinions? You can keep doing what you do in secret, and keep telling the public that you are "the most honest man ever existed."
Absolutely, politicians always act like they are a saint and yet part of evil on the other side. And even if you change your lifestyle, people that knew you will always have to say about you hence you will look like a hypocrite to others, so what's the point?

Well, there are no pure-hearted people in this world, there are no people to be called a saint. There is always a dark side, and gambling should not be considered as an evil, politicians and public people think of it like that which is wrong.
I do agree. If you gamble, you don't have to change your lifestyle, even if you change it, there are still some people who will judge you and make you look bad in front of other people.

Ok you are gambling just for fun, your friends and neighbors knows that and a friend invited you to his party to be one of the candidates as a councilor and campaign will start in 6 months, now, of course, you need to have a good reputation, will you stop gambling just to have a good image this coming campaign and how will you defend yourself if accused as a gambler.

Stop gambling is useless, people will still not believe in you even if you stop and still look at you a gambler. So it's better you keep playing gambling, but if you want to improve your image, then you have to stop gambling completely, even though it's hard for people to believe, but at least you try in the next few years to improve your image because 6 months for me is not enough.

you need to have a good reputation

No. And your logic is flawed: gamblers are not necessarily bad, also a councilor doesn't have a priest, you know.. And just stopping from doing something bad will not erase the history, which, sooner or later, will be found out. So it won't help.
that means be truthful so people may accept you for who you are and not a pretending to be good but inside is a demon.

and i like what you've said that councilor wasnt a priest or even saint that must be perfect, what he need is to be functional and will avoid bad doings and gambling is not part of it,not unless he is an addicted gambler then thats another story.

Since I will be running in a public office and people's perception of me is very important I will leave gambling and just focus on building my trust, since there are still six months before the campaign, I can come out clean and tell my voters that I already stopped because 6 months is already very long for a gambler who would like to stop.

Firstly accepting itself is a big thing and then having stopped it is also a big thing and then trust and perception plays a vital role in building image . If one can win over it then can have a good image which will help people to forgive you.

If you're a known gambler, then it's your fault, it's wrong for you to be known as a gambler by everyone in your entire neighborhood, it speaks ill of you and that is what makes other people distrust you. There are so many people in high and public offices who gamble, but it is not known to the public and it hardly can be used against them.

We all need to be wise when gambling, keep your addiction, if you have one, to yourself and try to solve the problem. You can only be accused of being an untrustworthy gambler if your addiction has led you to do crazy things in the past that made a large people aware of it.

If I will run as a public servant then I have to be genuine with my intention to serve with transparency of my character. So I will stop playing gambling and focus on how to become a better person that our community deserves. However if I didnt win then I will return to my old self and continue what im doing as an ordinary person who gamble to have fun.

But here in our country as long as you're popular and well-known by many (a local actor/actress) your background doesnt matter. What people see is your popularity and your public image especially if you're kind hearted and protagonist in a series.

i would love to be a councilor eversince so if theres a chance i will grab it,.and if the gambling is only the hindrance?then i will surely stop for a while lol.

there is no question about stopping forever right?what i only need is to show people that i have a good reputation so stopping while seeking for support is a one hell good thing.so will carry to pause not stopping for 6 months and will be back great after the selection lol.practical way of fulfilling dreams.

Well, in my case i will definitely stop playing gambling, we can't blame others that their perception in gambling is bad and will not give good impression to them, some just neutral it's fine to theme because they are open-minded or what so ever but, for me if I happen to have a good position of course i will maintain my good reputation and will not do anything that can ruin it or affect to it and even without others concern yourself could ruin your reputation once you become addict and obsessed in gambling because it will end up being too greedy and more likely do things that yourself should not do. In short, for the sake of reputation, image, personality, and being a self-controlled person, then as much as possible limit playing gambling, it can treat as for fun, but there will be a possibility that it will not later on.

Very few people know we are gamblers, why and for what reason,
Because, gambling is now no longer as manual as in the year 90. Now it is available automatically online and internet access. nobody knows who wins and who loses, all use accounts, online systems.
that's very good observation mate and just now that i realized that, this means there maybe tons of gamblers around us that without our notice?we might  have family members that is acquiring gambling habits in the other room of our house that unnoticed ?that's either good thing and same as bad.
For that, I will not stop gambling, only to be nominated as a candidate for the board.
only during the campaign,
reduce in gambling games, but I did not stop playing.
and i see no reason also why we need to stop playing just because of the nomination,we are playing before we being nominate and we will play even if we had chosen or wins the nomination.as i believe that only addicted gamblers will loss reputation and not responsible like us.

OP, you should learn from Donald Trump. Everyone knows he talks nonsense, giving false and unrealistic promises, etc. and yet, he got elected.

I think I will try to stop gambling because I want to change my reputation. And if many people ask about my habit of gambling, I will tell the truth, and I will explain that I am playing gambling because of fun. I guess people are smart to know that it is real or not, and they will still choose a good candidate.

People can change to be better people, especially if they have a serious thing which they want to do. And I think every people can have a second chance to fix the bad behavior in the past.

the real question is can we stop gambling ??

That will depend on each gambler. I am sure they will have their own decision on whether to stop gambling or continue gambling. Let them choose what they want. They will have time to think about what to decide.

I don't think that it will be a problem if you're a gambler when you're about to join a campaign. What's it matter here is the trust and also showing them how loyal you are and being a good guy who even can control himself from being addicted to gambling and use people's money in it. Gambling isn't a shame or something like that, all of people can gamble so it's not gonna mess up your reputation unless you're being addicted to it and using a money that not your own.

Honestly, this problem will just affect those new candidates that are not recognized by the people or not having a good background outside the political world. They should consider refraining from doing gambling for people not to think that the people's funds might be at risk although they have no intention of doing sh*t once elected.

If a certain candidate is known to have a good track record, don't have any issues involving corruption, known as a good politician throughout their tenure and can comply with all political works, then it shouldn't be a problem if they will continue to do gambling. I mean, why should they stop if they can cope up their role as a politician. It will not raise an issue about the possible corruption because of good history as being a politician and people knows that the money used in gambling is clean.

Although my statement is only possible if there's a politician like that as nowadays, it's really hard to find a politician that is 100% clean from corruption.

Honestly being a gambler doesnt reflect anytime that you are a bad person and also gambling isnt bad as long you havent done things
which would be unpleasant into their eyes. Therefore, i dont see any problems if you do continue on what you are doing. It might give some bad impressions
to some but majority wont really care at all on what you are doing the only thing that if you do run on said position you should really be honest
on what you had promised which the most important thing of all.

This is the good part of playing online. You can play or gamble without your neighbor knowing, unless you let them know. Going to a traditional casino exposes your self to a lot of people, imagine upon entering, you will be greeted by a guard, or a valet person who will get your keys, then you will exchange your fiat to chips. Theres a lot of human interaction that will happen inside a casino facility, unlike playing online.

Why need to hide as you mentioned that your friend and neighbor already knew about your activities. Be open with everything and let people judge you according to what you can do to help your community, it's the obligation of government servant there's no need of worrying about your private life it's
you who can adjust and be true to your people. They will vote you from being what you are.
