You can buy altcoin in CMC and that's a lot, prices vary and play well to give you an advantage. Actually, it is unfortunate if bitcoin is sold to buy altcoins but that might make you able to play on the market, yes, not all bitcoin selling.
It depends on what alt-coin you would buy but I rather hold it in BTC than to jump into another alt-coin,

Whoever is a trader do so because of profit and not just for fun of it and I don't think it is a rational decision for one to sell Bitcoin in other to buy faith currency or altcoins but I will rather sell my faith currency in other for me to buy Bitcoin and not the other way around.
