Portugal look to have the easiest route to the final assuming they finish top of their group but they will probably have to get past France who were obviously the previous winners.
I read somewhere in history, the former champion team can not qualify for the round 16 most of the time. If France caught on the history then with Denmark, Australia will be the other qualified team. Portugal may not need to face France but England. Both are tough opponent.

Maybe, maybe England really is the underestimated top favorite then. We will see. Their group doesn't look to difficult at least: Iran, United States & Wales - not really the who's who of football.  Cheesy
England may have the real test in the quarter finals.

I personally know for sure that Argentina will be in the final,I just don't know against who as I have not a clear idea but they are without a doubt the best selection of the World Cup if we count the players individually.
The four team I would like to list for the final are: England, Belgium, Argentina and Brazil. Out of these four teams we my find a world champion.

I really don't like the show that is being put by the so called favorites in these international friendlies!  This afternoon was watching Belgium play Egypt, am sorry to say but this was disappointing to watch... I expected the players to put up a good show for the coach to pick them in the starting 11 but it was a shit show, maybe they were holding back but now I need a different approach for the Main games to avoid this humiliation.

Not long to go now until I’m mostly stuck in front of the TV non stop for a whole month. Feels different to be having a World Cup mid season but just as good. So many things to bet on, different outcomes, tournament winner, top goalscorer, player of the tournament, parlays. Such an exciting time to be a football fan.

I already had a couple of bets actually -

1.) England to win the cricket T20 & football world cups (one ticked off already)
2.) Darwin Nunez to be top scorer at the WC

I’ll be betting on individual games obviously. I think I went with my heart with the bets listed above. More likely France or Brazil win, maybe Argentina.

Good to see the discussion thread. Any outright prediction of who will be the Champion? I understand everyone will favour their home team or at least favourite team but who deserves the trophy? I do not watch international football and it's hard for me to make good calls LOL

Never easy to predict. Brazil are probably the best team on paper and are certainly the bookies favourites. I'd really like to see Portugal v Argentina (or Messi v Ronaldo as the media will paint it) in the final and it can happen but both teams will have to get through some tough opposition like Brazil and Germany for Argentina. Portugal look to have the easiest route to the final assuming they finish top of their group but they will probably have to get past France who were obviously the previous winners.

They beat France in the Euro 2016 if I am not mistaken in the final even without Cristiano at that time as he was hit by a damage that could not continue the game after few minutes of the game in the first half. They can do it again in the encounter between the two teams here although things may be much different now as France has some more matured players like Mbappe which can be a great boost to the team.

I personally know for sure that Argentina will be in the final,I just don't know against who as I have not a clear idea but they are without a doubt the best selection of the World Cup if we count the players individually.

We are not a bad team, in fact English team has some experienced world class players who can win any match against any team. Few days ago we won World Cup T20 cricket, before then we won World cup ODI. Currently we are holding both trophy. In recent times World cup means England to take the trophy at home. Why would we have different this time 😉

However, the match against Wales at least should be very interesting because of the rivalry.

Difference is that France has world class defense and midfield behind those strikers as well. And they are not crazy enough to play with more than 3 of them in the first team. That being said France looked terrible in Nations League so I am not sure what to expect here. They will probably do good since they are usually really though to break down and that attack can score against anybody while motivation shouldn't be a problem in World Cup like it maybe was in those glorified friendlies.

I do believe that if France starts the tournament well in the group stage, they can go quite far with the motivation that comes from that. And lets be real Australia, Denmark and Tunisia are also quite easy opponents.

Even though Christopher Nkunku has unfortunately been injured at short notice, the French squad is still nominally the strongest (IMHO). Just look at the strikers. It doesn't get much better than this:

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern München), Ousmane Dembele (FC Barcelona), Olivier Giroud (AC Mailand), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) and ofc Kylian Mbappe (Paris St. Germain)

I think having this much of strikers might be to their own detriment, just saying though, because It could only remind me of Argentina some years ago, when they seemingly have the best strikers combination going into any tournament, but their midfield was quite a disaster and it ended up causing more harm to the team at large, I meant when Argentina were heading into those tournaments with forward lines consisting of Aguero, Higuain, Tevez, Messi, Di Maria, Diego Milito, Javier Pastore and Martin Palermo.

I guess we'll see how it all unfolds, it's just around the corner.

I have a new set of finalist in mind. How about we find a completely new nation who never won the world cup before?

Or maybe England will win the World Cup for the first time since 1966? Naaah, I doubt that.  Cheesy

May be final between Dutch and Danish?

I would actually love to see such a final and it's ofc way more likely than England winning something.  Cheesy
You seem praying for England not to win the world cup 🤣

Awesome. Another free raffle. Thanks guys!

IMHO, pretty tough guess. Hopefully we'll see a game with a lot of goals right at the beginning of the tournament. That would be great for the fans and ofc for my predictions.  Cheesy

Brazil will have a very hard test against Argentina in the Semi if they want to go to the final. According to my outright they are one of the finalist though.

Yep, you're right. If it's Brazil vs. Argentina, I'm confident that this time the game will go in favor of the Argentines.
You are an Argentine fan for sure. 😉

Great to have a different topic as the other one is overrun by people playing the fantasy game which I am not a fan and also not part of but I am happily a member of the traditional pool and can't wait for this to start. This will be a short event and the prizes although not yet completely clarified are looking good in the Games and Rounds thread.I don't think we will have many surprises as the groups are pretty straight forward for the big teams to win their games but I don't exclude surprises.

I love a saying which one of coaches in the local soccer Championship here says, that he is managing the best team and when he draws or loses he comes up with a great argument which is "We can't win always because also the others know to play football".

It's convenient to have a separate topic, yes, but actually I'm already confused about the threads  Grin Tomorrow morning I will have to make a plan where and what I should do. The pool is the simplest since Superbru sends notifications. There remains a competition where you need to make a bet of 0.5 mbtc in each round, plus a Fantasy football competition (I don’t know what and how to do there yet), plus I have already made a separate forecast on how the teams will perform at the World Cup. Totaly 4 competitions, right?

Thanks for the quick explanation boys. hilariousandco already sent me a PM with the instructions.

Despite the host country being Qatar, I'm really excited for the World Cup. Let's see if I can manage to watch most of the games. However, on some days there are four games a day. That's quite a lot of football.  Cheesy

Germany or Brazil ofc.  Cool

Aaand realistically, Argentina and France probably have the best chance of winning the World Cup. But you never know, all of the top teams are capable of winning the title.

Cant wait for it to start. Thats really good there is 4 games a day that gives us 10-12 hours of matches everyday so the entire day we can just watch football and enjoy. For me Brazil is one of the main favorites, but i think my country Serbia will go really far in the World Cup.

I think that France will be a negative surprise, no team atmosphere is always a bust

That might be true. However, they still have the best players in the tournament.

Argentina does seem much better, but I will go with Netherlands outright (would be England, but I do want to take it below 10 odds), they have solid young team, good team spirit, and viable draw, of missed England in first round, Argentina in QF

I think England will surprise us all this time, they have like Argentina a very matured team in the forwarding division with best players like Kane and Sterling, adding to them young talented players in defense and midfield with a couple of other veterans. They need to win this and as they say "it's coming home" after almost 40 years since their 1966 success at such event which if I remember correctly they were the host country at that time.

Also Argentina is a very strong contender and some team that I am surely going to be on them to be a winner as the odds should be good right now before the start of the event during this weekend.

That's called world cup fever, I already planned for the whole month. In round three, there are two matches at the same sso you will have to chose a match to watch and you will miss the other one.

Just for my understanding:

We need to create an account on Superbru and the official FIFA website, right? And the regular bets are then placed on Superbru and on FIFA I pick the outcome of the whole tournament, right?

Yes and then PM the link to your Fifa bracket to hilariousandco or post @ https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.61300311
I think I'm gonna do Superbru for the main and then have a smaller prize for the FIFA one.
