Ronaldo was very disappointed when Portugal lost in the quarter-finals with Morocco.  And he went off alone in anger and was taken off after half-time.  It was Ronaldo's last World Cup as he would not be able to participate again as age would act as the biggest barrier.  Because there is no way that his youth and running speed can be sustained till 2026.  That's why I think this World Cup is Ronaldo's last World Cup because no player has played as a striker at the age of 41.

Maybe we should petition Sportsbet to have a special odds on our semis, as well as outright, what do you think the odds will be ?
Your wish is our command  Wink I just had initial chat about it and I am quite confident we will organize betting on the semi final games and outright winners. Have to work it out a bit more and handle odds and liability but it should be manageable. I'll do my part and they expect a bunch of you to actually bet on it. It could work as a nice pilot project to gauge the interest and maybe include some other forum happenings or yellow cap winner bets in the future.

Brilliant initiative!

Of course I definitely will bet on it and I think it will be an interesting feature to have honestly, and it spice up all our other pools too, honestly.

Hey well, done, I did get the slaman-Harko semi correct, but missed on the other 2. Harko my pick for the winner takes all, pressure? Wink

I just checked the questions and why does it have to get harder every time huh ?! We still have all of Monday, so I'll definitely have it in by tomorrow. I just need to do a lot of dice throwing to arrive at an answer for each question.

What do you say, Trofo, another big money down on Croatia to qualify? I got a fantastic 55/10 odds last time around, it's "only" 33/10 this time around, so not tempting enough for me, honestly. Maybe a pre-match on Argentina and then hedge it with fantastic live odds if/when they get ahead?

While I still want to Messi to win the trophy because of what it would mean to him, I actually have second thoughts now because of how it would stir some other social media debate of Messi vs Ronaldo, the most annoying debate of all time, and one needing to be considered mediocre just to hype the other, when in reality they're both football legend, the best to have ever graced the football pitch... I'm sure the media will lose all it's billions of baits click with just because Messi or Ronaldo is the headline.

Nice questions, Messi all the way for me, whether or not he actually scores or assists will be tough against Cro. Battle of Lusail is now the most carded game in World Cup history, but before that, it was actually another Dutch game (who can forget the boot-to-chest on Alonso?) so I have a feeling it's actually the Dutch who instigates all these cards haha, I wouldn't be surprised if Argentina-Croatia ends with very few cards and goals.

This is the final, official semi-finals draw:

Also, the questions for the semifinals are here!

The deadline is 2 hours before the 1st semifinal, please no funny business. We will check according to timestamps.

Good luck, I think these questions are the hardest ones so far.

feels good to be in semi-finals, and we have some parallel to WC as well, Croatia and Morocco went to SF from same group, and here only two groups are in SF, Harkorede and slaman29 were in group A, and Kanapka and me in group G

good fight with CLS63, both getting five points, another decider to went through, and have to say luck, Kane penalty missed and Rashford inched over the bar in last minute, but that is history now, and off to SF with slaman29

congrats to all SF participants, but also to those that went out, it is mostly a matter of luck in these roulettes

Semifinals are on Mon/Tue so expect the questions some time during tomorrow.
You really celebrate a bit too hard if you don't even know when we play our next game Smiley Semi finals are on Tuesday/Wednesday at 7PM GMT.

Congrats to all that qualified for our final four. Be sure to check the deadline for answers when questions become live. This time we will have deadline a couple of hours before first game, so we are sure official line ups aren't available. Only 2 games so we need all possible angles for our questions. I am still missing a lot of BTC addresses so please send them to me trough PM.

Thank you both again, the fact no one got more than 5 points shows you made an amazing set of questions Smiley Take the break, well deserved.

I'm honestly very surprised and happy to make it, without a tiebreaker as well, not that I was even awake to see it, this whole day at office even I was so curious, I know I got 3 points, wasn't sure what the rest of my answers even were of if I got Portuguese lineup correct.

Anyway, it was nice, inthelongrun, and now I come up against CasperBGD, one of the most experienced forum users.

So, unofficial results are as follows:

Harkorede - Woodie 4-4 (AET)

Please doublecheck yourselves, we will check it thoroughly one more time before declaring it official.

Wow! That was a very close one, If Kane had scored that late penalty I surely would have been eliminated regardless of how it turns, this time around it just down to luck and nothing else, I really wasn't conscious of the total goals only counting for regular time, and I also went with Diogo Costa to concede the least number goals in my draft, but opted for Alisson eventually.

@Woodie nice game mate, it was a great pleasure being your opponent for the round, and @kanapka I'm looking forward to the semi final match up  Cheesy

good run for CLS63 so far, he is up two points, and I need Mbappe to shine tonight, but not to overshine it, since five goals tonight will put me out certainly

basically 2:1 France win, Mbappe on scoring list and Kane out of scoring would be best outcome, so that is where my thoughts are streaming

congrats to Morocco, as expected, just I was expected that goal in overtime, or on penalties
would we get re-match in final?

For the Morocco question, how is "goal in only 1 half and under 1.5 goals" wrong Huh

Nah, yours is correct. I need to reevaluate Portugal lineup as well, I just remembered that we accept 10 correct players as well.
Sorry fellas, Croatia's win knocked me out of my game a bit.

What to say about the Moroccans, eh? They really don't concede Grin

wait for the bigger upset tonight, when i mad those prediction most of you think that i was drunk. haha.

To be honest, winning Argentina with Messi in this form would be difficult; this is exactly the state of the team that won the last Copa America; everyone is in a good mood, and Messi is dominating every game without a single knock so far. I sometimes wonder how he is able to play a full game without taking a serious knock, knowing full well that he is the target man in every game. Less running, but you see him in every dangerous attack position with less space, and he still manages to make something out of it. Croatia is a good team, but Messi is in GOAT mode right now, so stopping him from scoring or making plays would be difficult.

Damn fellas, what a day (and night) yesterday. It was really crazy, I'm still in recovery mode Grin
I finally updated the spreadsheets so you can see how you're doing.

Regarding the game - what to say? I did not feel like we've got a chance, but we played a brilliant defensive game.
I like our chances against Argentina a lot more, although Messi is playing in God mode once again.

Whatever happens now happens - can we win it? Fuck yeah, we can.

France and Portugal will leave tomorrow.

Are you not tired of your team always forcing games into penalty shootouts? You've had more penalty shootouts than shots on target so far. Fall back, wait for a counterattack, and force games into overtime because the luck of penalties is always on your side. Grin
Not at all, especially against teams like Brazil. Croatia has a population of less then 4M, if we assume that half of that are men, that is 2M men of which I don't know maybe 100k is of age that can play competitive football and I have no idea how many of them are actually doing it at least semi professionally. Maybe 5k? Brazil has over 2.1M active football players at this moment. When a team with that much choice looses against us I am taking the win however it came.
If I were born in Croatia, I would probably play football for the Croatian national team because those who are not interested in football outnumber those who are. I was born in a country of over 200 million people, where approximately 70% are men and approximately 45% of the men play grassroot football, 10% are either dead or old enough to do anything, and the remaining percentage I have no idea where they belong hahah Grin

But you can't call it luck. Once or twice is luck, after that it becomes something more. Just remember how Real got their last CL. They should have lost all the knockout matches all the way to the final and they prevailed in all of them. I guess Modrić is the link between Real and Croatia and it could be a whole different story once he retires at age 70 or something  Grin

You are correct about Real Madrid last season; they were the second best team in the final and still won. Do not worry, Modric will retire after another heartbreak by next week. He gave everything for the team; now it's time for him to concentrate on his club career.

Just peeped at the spreadsheet and not a single one of you took the risk to name Ronaldo in your squad haha. Surprised also only casperBGD went for 0-0, and was also only 1 of 2 to pick the Martinez/di Maria benchings. Not bad, I would have thought di Maria starts but they kept him out of the game for so long. Smart, in a way, fresh for the semis.
Right now, the bench is the most comfortable place for him; he should get used to it. He fade up so quickly. Modric is 37, Messi is 35, Pepe is 39, and T. Silva is 37, and all of them are still playing at a high level. Ronaldo is 38 years old, but his abilities make him appear to be 40..

edit; oh my GOD it's finally coming home.  Grin I'm sure trofo wanted Netherlands, sorry mate but you have to face the GOAT

Really want Messi to pass, but Croatia doing the same in their own way is equally satisfying for me (not to mention they made me win pretty big on a hedge so I'm not as bad in my betting balance as before the game). Trofo putting the stats in terms of population sums up why I think I can live with them playing that way (and why I admire Uruguay for their intense footballing prowess being only a country with 3.4m and over 20% living below poverty line). If these nations need to play their way with what they got, it makes football beautiful.
in other word they should win the world cup for having a beautiful history with lesser population?

what happened to Messi after pass-though over Netherlands
saw that he called someone dummy (newspapers are on that it was Weghorst) during interview, but not really sure what was all about? does anyone has more info on that? not a great behavior certainly

https://www.marca.com/en/world-cup/2022/12/10/6393c08c22601d56778b45c9.html

Yes man, its was i said in my last comment, its the first time i see Messi so angry. Here we look at it through the transmission of which is that journalist we see it on live and we dont know to who was that.

But now its a video when you can see, it was to Wout Weghorst, i dont why exactly, but he was intercepted by Lautaro Martinez and Kun Aguero behind the cameras, i cant hear what is he saying.

Also after Aguero was in a Tv show and not comment so much about it, only says something like "he comes shouting ".

Here you have the behind scenes.
