This year, there was a very close competition between the USA and China in the Paris Olympics. If I am not mistaken, the USA won the gold medal in women's basketball on the last day and got ahead of China. But since the country that won the most medals is the USA.

The two giant countries, which also compete fiercely for global trade, do not restrict their investments and expenses when it comes to sports and in return, they gain great prestige with the medals and achievements they receive after the Olympics.
There were series of unforgettable moments this Olympics in terms of incredible performances from some of these teams of skillful Atlethes we have this tournament who performed at the just concluded 2024 Olympics, ranging from the Basketball, handball , volleyball, to skateboarding and the marathon swimming, I enjoyed this season's Olympics marathon swimming competition more than I do enjoy previous one.

For me it was 2nd best Olympics that I saw. Still, nobody can't beat London 2012. There is so many moments from Paris that will stuck in my head forever. From athletics to basketball or beach volleyball in background of Eiffel tower. And it was so great to see full stands everywhere, even in sports which doesn't looks so popular. Such relief after empty stands in Tokyo 2020.

Cuba's decline in the last decades of the Olympics is clear. A country that has always been a reference in Olympic sports, this edition of the Olympics is in 32nd place in the medal table. If it continues at this pace, it will lose all its relevance in Olympic sports. Since Sydney 2000, its performance has been getting worse and worse... sad.
From what I remember they were very strong at boxing, not sure what happened now.
Seems that now Uzbekistan is dominating in boxing with total 5 golden medals there.

After the closing ceremony, we left the Olympics behind. The United States left its mark this year, they managed to get quite a lot of medals. It was a great pleasure to watch them, especially in the basketball final. Lebron and Curry were a great duo and made us watch an unforgettable match.
One of the most talked about things at the Olympics was Yusuf Dikeç, a true icon. Everyone imitated him. I am very sorry that Turkey did not get the gold medal Sad

USA would have probably ended up more golds had it not been for Leon freaking Marchand destroying his competition and earning 4 freaking golds in a single competition. Makes sense since he was trained by Phelps's coach.

Many people seem to think that he could be the next Phelps, but I don't think so since that legend is from another freaking planet and on another level itself. Phelps is basically a once in a generation athlete.
😂 Lol, I really find your comment very funny.
I am gonna be honest with you, I do not know who this Phelps is, basically because I've not and never paid attention to the Olympics, I remember that when last I watched Olympics was in or around the 90's when I was still a teenager living with my uncle, ever since that year, I never had any interest in the Olympics until this very moment, if you check, you did know that this is my very first comment on this thread.

So, what I am saying it, whoever the Phelps is, he or she gotta train someone to become like him or her, for the fact that he or she is not going to be performing and living for ever, or for an entire generation, it's not possible you know.
So, that the world will have another person like him or her as a replacement for when he or she is gone, he's or she's gonna train someone to become exactly, perfect like him or herself, else, who's gonna carry on with the legacy, he or her legacy?

You can use he as he is male. It is understandable if the person is not interested in Olympics. But even me who was not into Olympics during Phelps's time, I heard and read him over the news because of his feat. Where were you in 2016? Because if you were just browsing the news, you had surely read about him.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Phelps
"He is the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time[7] with a total of 28 medals.[8] Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals (23),"
and "Phelps holds 20 Guinness World Records"

So we can say, he is indeed a legend in swimming. But of course, he had his golden days and so another young blood will replace him on the pedestal of swimming.

I really liked the break dance category, which was for the first time in these Olympics.
It would be nice if such fun and beautiful games were added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
I watched the 10 km swimming race in the Seine River. The athletes swam and I was out of breath.

Yes, the next Olympics will be in 4 year's time and Los Angeles will get another opportunity to host this event.
By the way, did anyone watch the closing ceremony of this Olympics? It was a good one and I think it was even better than the opening ceremony we witnessed a month ago.

The best part of this closing ceremony was the entry of Tom Cruise and his stunning movie-like moments just grabbed the attention of everyone. He jumped from the top of the Stade de France stadium and landed on the ground with a style.   Smiley

If it continues at this pace, it will lose all its relevance in Olympic sports. Since Sydney 2000, its performance has been getting worse and worse... sad.

As I said in my previous post, the Olympics are a good parameter for analyzing each country's situation in general
The United States and China, the two countries with the greatest influence and power, won the first places quite comfortably

Brazil, with fewer medals, also reflects the situation of sport in the country
Cuba is also a good example. I remember back in the day that Cuba had excellent men's and women's volleyball teams and good boxers
I was also surprised to see England (Great Britain) drop a few places and weaken a lot compared to previous Olympics

What you say is very true, when a country continues to provide equal support to every athlete in their sport, both financially and in facilities, it is not absolute that that country will become the team that dominates every sport at international events, America and China, are two countries which has developed rapidly in the last few years in the field of sports so it is not surprising that these two countries are now superpowers not only in the economic field but in fact they have also mastered sports, in fact what surprises me is that they can also achieve more in sports which is indeed It is too not popular in that country, like America, which won medals from women's football, even though we know that football is not as popular as basketball, American football and baseball.

I dont think they are actually going to be added to LA28. I believe it was
only added for Paris to encourage a younger audience?

I think there are other "sports" that are played globally which could take its place.
from what I know, breaking was only for this Olympics, and yeah it was to attract the younger audience. also, from what I heard recently there will be 5 different sports will be added to the 2028 Olympics.

edit: so I did a quick search and these are the sports that will be added to the 2028 Olympics "flag football, baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse and squash".

I was actually looking forward to watching the Breaking but I didnt see any of it.
There was simply too much other sports going on which my country was involved in.
I wasn't able to watch the break dance women's category but I was able to watch the men's category and it was amazing, the gold medalist(Phil Wizard) definitely deserves the gold.

France organized this very well. The closing events were also very nice. I've never heard of a memorable event at the Olympic Games. Security measures are also very good. If we live long enough, we will meet at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics...

I would not say that France really did a great job, if we remember Seina water controversies, robberies (but I think this happens all the time), and several events to be postponed, as well as opening ceremony received a lot of hate. Maybe I was distracted by all that, plus boxing controversies, and that influenced on my evaluation. Anyway, the US beat everyone again, China again on the second place and the same goes to Japan. South Korea is finally in top10.

Man, it definitely has its flaws, but I still think it was beautiful.
By the way, I am not a French Citizen. I'm just a sports fan watching from the outside. I found it strange that two athletes, especially those in the women's boxing competitions, were competing in the women's category. Because there was disproportionate power.
I think the USA will be much more beautiful and organized. It is a fact that such organizations are done better by large and powerful countries. Countries that will aspire to the Olympic games should now form a committee and examine what these countries are doing and how they work. These things don't happen with airborne work.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics. Obviously my main love is football and with it being summer I get bored so am always looking for something to do to pass the time until the football starts up again. I really enjoyed the Olympics, some of the athletics was epic, really enjoyable.

It started off awfully with that abomination of an opening ceremony but the athletes put on a great show. Keely Hodgkinson was my favourite athlete in the Womens 800m.

I have to say, so did I. Every summer one I do enjoy the badminton and table tennis, but this year I actually also even watched stuff like volleyball and swimming, which is weird but enjoyable. I really liked most of the spirit in athletes, except runners who seem a bit egotistic lol

It was a big change from football drama, like real sporting events and damn, the high jumps and pole vaults impressed me big time.

My personal favorite is Pakistan winning their only gold from some guy who only picked up javelin because he was a shit cricket player. Old school sports and new hero Smiley

And some players being sent home because of so called violations, and then 2 boxers that were banned by IBA but was allowed by the IOC to compete. So there are a lot of controversies in this Olympics and I do agree that it was not a great job by the host team.

Total medals went to the USA team, but for my country, we won 2 golds and 2 bronzes and that is enough to be in the top of Southeast Asian countries. Next will be in Los Angeles, not the first time that this city is going to hold it and so I'm expecting it to be great as the last time.

Felt great to see USA ending up on top of the table right over China thanks to their crazy high medals tally. Tom Cruise's crazy stunts were spectacular and they were the highlight of the closing ceremony for me.

Paris Olympics 2024 turned out to be average overall for me thanks to so many great events combined with many, many controversies.

Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre performing to close out the Olympics and bring it to Los Angeles was pretty awesome. I can only imagine the sort of performances that are going to be put on in 2028. It is going to be a traffic nightmare for the city I’m sure but for those of us watching at home I’m sure it will be fun seeing everything LA brings to the table.
the 2028 Olympics at los Angeles will take a totally different turn as it's now going to be in the USA and knowing that they've always been at the top of thier games at the Olympics and would be hosting the coming Olympics, it will be a perfect opportunity to break their own record on the highest medal won back to back in consecutive Olympics. They've made a name for themselves as long as the Olympics is concerned. With an incredible 126 medals at this Paris Olympics, won 113 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and still came out first at the 2016 Olympics held at Brazil with total medal that sums up to 121, at the home ground with everything that will now work to thier advantage will be a perfect opportunity climb up tall as the strongest force to be contender against as long the Olympics sport's is concerned.

This was an epic event and hopefully we pray to be financially stable enough in the coming years to have the capacity to be live at the Olympics event.
