France organized this very well. The closing events were also very nice. I've never heard of a memorable event at the Olympic Games. Security measures are also very good. If we live long enough, we will meet at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics...

Feels like USA vs China in the Olympics could be one of the most fun thing I have seen, and the fact that it is also such a politically charged thing makes it so much more fun as well. Thank God I am not citizens of both places, but at the same time we are talking about something that is taking a long place right now and when this is over it is going to be something winner side will talk about until the next Olympics as well.

It's fun to see this working so well, because in the end it's all about "capitalism vs communism" type of thing as well lol. And yes of course just Olympic gold medals do not decide that, and to be fair to USA they have so much more medals too, not just gold medals, they may lack one gold medal in the end, but they are way way way more ahead when it comes to other medals. So it's quite good and important, but at the same time there are other stuff in the world that is making this a real thing as well, we should be considering this as important things.

Well, what they have shown is that they are very powerful nations, that they are very powerful in their sports and that obviously it can be seen as you say, for me the political part is very bad that it exists, however, as you say, with socialism vs capitalism, I consider that capitalism is a thousand times better, I know this from my own experience, but for me in terms of the sports part, the USA is much stronger in sports, where I see that it is very difficult for them to get results is in men's soccer, they can't, so sometimes not everything is power.

Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre performing to close out the Olympics and bring it to Los Angeles was pretty awesome. I can only imagine the sort of performances that are going to be put on in 2028. It is going to be a traffic nightmare for the city I’m sure but for those of us watching at home I’m sure it will be fun seeing everything LA brings to the table.

I have been to cricket stadium once, and concluded from that experience that viewing experience on screen is better than going to the stadium, although it still feels good to watch your favorite sportsperson from close-up but that's only positive I can think of.

There is a tough competition of Gold medals between the United States of America and China. As of now, both the United States and China won 40 Gold medals each, it is a tie between them  Wink
However overall, United states won 126 medals as compare to the China's 91 medals. The USA is a clear winner here in the Paris Olympics. Japan is on the 3rd position while the host France is in the 4th position in terms of total medals.

But it's incredible how the Olympics also serve as a parameter for the condition of each country, with China gaining a lot of ground and investing heavily in sports  Shocked

I read that this is the biggest haul of medals from the Chinese, they even tied for US in terms of golds. And a lot of sports like in Swimming wherein they won medals and then they sweep the diving and table tennis games, a feat that we haven't seen in Olympics.

And even in women's tennis singles and mixed doubles, this games are usually dominated by West or European but the Chinese were able to win medals as well. So yeah, the investment they put up really paid off in Paris 2024.

It was nice to have an Olympics. Being able to held one is itself a large achievement but this Olympics too was plagued with controversies.

International boxing Association made sure they want to kill boxing as a sports. The boxing scandal in Paris is likely to prevent boxing being a Olympic sport in LA.

This has been the point where China is going to replace US as the sporting giant for Olympics. Though US made IOC test Chinese athletes for doping several times, they don't seem to have found any illegal substance. The next obvious path for US is to analyze the samples and find substances that are not banned and before the start of the LA Olympics, ban them immediately so that in the short time period, the athletes won't have time to remove the traces from their blood. Otherwise US could get a defeat on their own land.
US actually should blame Australia instead. The reason why Swimming has so many gold is because US were better at it. Now Australians are stealing US gold.

Overall they were a good Olympics they weren't bad however not many world records were broken which is strange there were a lot of champions and it was a pleasure to see many of them for the last time apart from the initial ceremony let's say they were good

France will have very good support, this could be a decisive factor for them. France looks very good at the Olympics, and it is not surprising, they are playing at home and they simply had to do it. For Thierry Henry it is also a great achievement, his start as a coach was not very successful and now if France wins they can change everything. If Spain can win, then this summer will be incredibly successful for them, after the victory of the Spanish national team at the Euro. So far the match is mainly in the center of the field without any advantage of one of the teams, perhaps France is trying to move forward more, but so far it is all without much progress.
France tried to come back when they got that penalty to make it 3-3 but goals from Camello in the 100' and 120' decided to the whole event for them. For what it was worth, France did well in the Olympics and to get to the finals as hosts is something we should commend because they rarely do so.
Thierry Henry would have made history if he had managed to win the gold in this Olympics because it would have been his first since becoming and if it were any other team, his dream of achieving this would have been a reality. Big ups to Spain though. They managed to exude confidence and calm despite the pressure and I must say they deserve to gold.

Well, but it was a great step forward that the tití made, for me he is a very good coach, not just anyone makes them Reach the final , not just anyone makes those kids great in the Olympics, Spain has a great formation, they come from an experience of the Euro , they have a lot of material, they also have a great league, one of the best in the world, now in Ligue 1 things must continue to improve, so if it is as you say, the tití would have made history, but I think he already did, they should be proud, the silver medal is not a dishonor, but basically what he has Achieved is historic.

I remember there was a bet on which country would win the most medals, and it really was like that, United States in first and China in second place
China narrowly missed out on first place, a single gold medal would have made all the difference
It's incredible how close the two countries are and how they've left the others behind
At the next Olympics in Los Angeles, United States cannot allow another country to win more medals, and I believe they will invest even more in Olympic sports to secure first place again

But it's incredible how the Olympics also serve as a parameter for the condition of each country, with China gaining a lot of ground and investing heavily in sports  Shocked

Who won the MVP for basketball?
Must be Steph Curry without any doubt, right?

Any France have very good players, they will dominate Europe in the following years and most of them will dominate NBA from next year.
Very impressive team.
It was Lebron James that has been awarded as the MVP for men's basketball in the Olympics.

What? Curry was amazing, in the last 2 games, incredible anyway...
The tally probably is for all of the games that have been made and the scores that each player made. But I guess that Lebron got all of the most points, I haven't seen the record yet but that's probably what it is.

It wasn't a point thing but rather a leadership thing.  Yes steph had 36 points in the semi final game but lebron had a triple double.  Tough to do in a r0 minute game vs a 48 minute nba game.  Lebron had to clean the boards score when it was important and feed every US player to make sure they were getting involved.  For some weird reason lebron hmgets a lot of hate but one thing for certain he guided this team to gold.  For that I agree dude deserved the mvp here.
Yeah, why the hate? I also thought Curry would get it, but it's not like LeBron doesn't deserve it, he definitely does. His leadership is commendable, and it's not like he performed poorly. In fact, he performed well. Maybe they’re just LeBron haters, no matter what happens. We can't do anything about it and neither can Lebron.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics. Obviously my main love is football and with it being summer I get bored so am always looking for something to do to pass the time until the football starts up again. I really enjoyed the Olympics, some of the athletics was epic, really enjoyable.

It started off awfully with that abomination of an opening ceremony but the athletes put on a great show. Keely Hodgkinson was my favourite athlete in the Womens 800m.

I'm not a fan of basketball and I rarely watch the sport but to be honest, I had to leave whatever I was doing yesterday to watch the final game yesterday between the USA men's basketball team and the France men's basketball team because of Stephen Curry and he didn't disappoint me with his performance in that match. Just like you, I have no doubt that he'll win the MVP for basketball. For the French basketball team, I think there's a lot of talent in that team and if they continue to nurture the team, they can go on to conquer the world in few years to come.

No. Stephen Curry was in all-star five, but he wasn't the MVP. The MVP was LeBron James.

For more information, you can read the following article on FIBA official website.
LeBron James MVP of the Paris 2024 headlines the All-Star Five

Final situation of medal is fun to see.

the US and China are both in the 1st spot if you use the European way to count with 40 gold medal each but USA got a bigger number of total medals.

A disappoint of the game is often India, they have over 1 billion people, do they do sports at school?

Olympics ended with epic women basketball final between USA and France. USA haven't lost any games in Olympics since 1992. France were one buzzer beater from sending game to overtime, but French player stepped on line and scored just 2 points instead of 3. This win let USA to end in the 1st place in medal table with 40 golden medals.
Men handball final was huge dominance od Denmark vs Germany, we already knew winner at halftime. It was last dance for Denmark legend Mikkel Hansen
Waterpolo final was classic clash between Serbia and Croatia. It was close game, but Serbia was leading most part of game and won gold.
Women marathon finish ended with epic sprint and win of Sifan Hassan - when she made that sprint, she was so fast that it didn't looked that more than 40km was behind her. And just 2 days ago she took bronze in another long distance - 10000m.

I would like to dedicate a thought to the Italian women's volleyball team for the commendable performance they gave compared to the men they have just won the gold medal a magnificent performance by Paola egonu who once again demonstrated that she is of another very good level
Whata performance by Italy. In the final they simply destroyed USA. As neutral spectator I didn't wanted to see such one sided action, but congratulations to Italy, I think it was great Olympics for them.

I didn't know medal tally before, was just keeping in touch with how Indian athletes are doing in Olympics, was happy with handful of bronzes and silvers that India won, now that I read [1] how many Golds alone China and USA has won, I feel very surprised and this comparsion took away my joy.

When you say basketball, we say United States Wink
Since the first period, USA were dominating the game with a comfortable lead. Only the third period was for the French side, otherwise finishing behind with 11 points difference isn't something to be proud of for France in the final game..
USA are right now 1 gold away from taking the first position from China.
11points difference against USA is maybe not something to be proud of for France, and I don't think anyone in France had celebrated that, but it's not something to be ashamed either IMO. The level of french players is of course way lower than the one of the american superstars, but with tennis it's one of the only sport of the Olympic games where all biggest pro superstars can compete for their country. Most sports are for amateurs or semi-professionals, and soccer tournament is only open to under 23 years old players (except 3 in each team afaik)

Italy destroyed USa in the Women volleyball.
A superb match for the italians, Usa haven't got any chance to even fight for a set.
The supremacy was astonishing.

Probably the strongest Italy ever seen in History even if they won other gold medals.

U-S-A! Hell yeah! China was ahead thanks to 40 gold medals, but USA caught up thanks to their female track cycling omnium champion and their female Basketball team winning against France by an extremely small margin.

They won many golds, silvers and bronze medals thanks to which they truly deserve first position while China and Japan rounded out the top 3.
