Today we had start of women football and handball tournaments. In football so far without upsets. Also, Rugby-7 already reached 1/4 finals, this tournament is going so fast. Tomorrow we have Opening Ceremony, so, there won't be any competition in play.
What is your problem man? If basketball and volleyball can be included in Olympics, then definitely football can find it's rightful place. And from 2028, cricket is also being included. And you maybe already knowing about the player eligibility criteria. It is essentially an Under-23 competition, with a maximum 3 over-age players being allowed in the roster. And this means that Olympic football tournament is a great opportunity for the younger players. And regarding Paris, I agree that it is a bad choice for hosting the Games.
You do know football has been a sport at the Olympics since 1900, right?
Folks, calm down. Rikafip said well, I'm quoting his post below, first of all I was referring to situation that happened yesterday. But in general, I'm not big fan of mens football in Olympics. I think Olympics should be tournament of best athletes. Football was in the programme since 1900, but since 1992 when age rules were introduced, it stopped to be tournament of best athletes. It's like youth tournament with few older players. I know reasons why it was done, but winning Olympic gold in football isn't same like in basketball or volleyball.
He will me correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that he has issues with football being part of the Olympics but instead he was (probably) referring at what happened yeterday in Morocco-Argrntina game where they disallowed goal Argentina scored for 2-2 hour and a half after the end of the game.
One thing is true though, football at Olympics was never that popular simply because of u23 rule and it will remain like that until that is changed (which I don't think will happen).
