Indeed USA and China will always top the table in terms of gold medals and that is not going to change any time soon. They are intentional about sports and have one of the biggest investment in sports. I have the feeling that USA will dominate even though Michael Phelps (who always give them gold medal in swimming) will only be coming as a commentator.
China has bad strategy to find, train and grow up the youth athletes for Olympics. There are many information resources that reveal how harsh trainings in China on youth athletes and their government, sport ministry think that gaining medals, high rank in Olympics will show their national power and they are ready to do many unacceptable ways to achieve sports results for their political ambition.

The USA in contrast, has better approach for sports athletes and they don't aim at medal at any cost. Humanitarian principles to follow are more important than how many medals they have in Olympics. China can get a second rank or first rank but if we assess a national performance in Olympics, beyond total medals, the USA is better than China.

I enjoy the athletics the most but it’s good to watch live sports every day throughout the Olympics.

I like watching the football obviously but I got engrossed in the cycling and rowing for some reason in the last games, the sailing is fascinating too.
I love football because I once had the ambition of playing professional football, although I ditched this idea when I sustained serious injury during high school football competition, which got me scared  Cheesy. Apart from football, I love swimming, table tennis and athletics in general.

I wonder who will come out on top in the medals table, my guess is the USA or China as usual.

They are the defending champions and hasn't lost in the last 4 Olympics.
They have lost one match in the last 4 Olympic games.
United States lost their first match in 2020 Olympics. They were defeated by France 83-76, however United States and France faced each other again in the final match and this time United States won the match 82-87 and were awarded their fourth consecutive gold medal.

1.17 for USA win in the basketball competition is like a joke but I understand of course.  Grin  Canada follow with 10.50 and France have 15.00 odds for the championship. Rather than Canada I might bet some on France honestly as a surprise bet. Nothing is certain in sports despite big favourites you know. I would love to watch USA get a nice upset here.

France were the other finalist in the last Olympics. Maybe they could go for another attempt. By the way Canada couldn't even qualify in 2020 but now bookmakers show them as the 2nd big favourite. What an improvement!

US has to be favored like that but in terms of betting you're right it's worth a punt on one of these other teams.  Any day one of these teams can upset the US.  If I had to pick it would be the Canadian team but France isn't a bad bet at 15-1 either.  Laying off betting Olympic basketball in the beginning until I see some of these teams play.

It's not a surprised since the team is loaded with NBA players, like Lebron and Steph Curry. They are the defending champions and hasn't lost in the last 4 Olympics. And with that way they show their strengths in the exhibition games and winning it, yeah, they are the favorite.

France were the other finalist in the last Olympics. Maybe they could go for another attempt. By the way Canada couldn't even qualify in 2020 but now bookmakers show them as the 2nd big favourite. What an improvement!

They are the host city so expect them to go for the medal as well. But as what the media says, everyone is competing for the Silver medal. For Canada, during that time, they don't have much of a NBA line up team. But in this year's Olympics, they are solid with Jamal Murray, SGA, Dillon Brooks, RJ Barrett. So it's like a total overhaul from 2020 line up.

Embarrassing scenes from Argentina vs Morocco match, Morocco fans entered the pitch and they thrown bottles on players of Argentina, than after one hour VAR decided that goal was offside and result was changed from 2:2 to 1:2  Roll Eyes
Messi was not happy about this decision and he event commented about this shameful decision.
I am expecting to see more problems during this Olympic games, on and off the pitch.
Man, VAR doesn’t lie. That call was pretty good and Morocco deserved that win. That was really nice upset in the first day match of the Mend Paris football Olympics. Argentina was also given another chance to make it a draw but it fell short. (+15 mins)

I never thought it would end up like that—going from 0-2 to 2-2. It reminds me of France’s comeback in the 2022 World Cup against Argentina, although France ended up losing in penalties. This time, Argentina lose to Morroco Lol.

I've been watching the warm up games for the US Mens basketball team.  They sure have had some tight games that you would expect otherwise would have been blowouts.  I still think that since these games were exhibition games, and not actual games, that the US teams wasn't playing as hard as they actually would otherwise, so I'm not that worried about them (as a US citizen) but I would say there is a real chance of them struggling if they don't get on the same page as each other asap.

Nigeria put pressure in the first half but they lost because they did failed to take their chances . They froze from the moment Brazil started looking better. I didn’t have my hopes up for the Super Eagles so I can’t say I am disappointed with the results. I’m actually impresssed with how they played today despite the 1 nil loss. Looking at the stats Nigeria were the better side in the match. If they can play like they did in the last 15mins of tonight’s game, I believe they will be able to fare better against other teams in the group.

In the latest female FIFA ranking Brazil occupies the ninth position while the Nigerian super falcons are ranked thirty-sixth. From the reviews, I think the Nigerian female team proved themselves to be a worthy participant in the tournament. But in such a competition performance without points will lead to an early exit. The Brazilian side didn't dominate the games as favourites but they have the important three points. Spain is currently topping group C after winning Japan by one goal to nothing. Nigerian fans will have to be worried because they would have to fight for a place by winning both Spain and Japan. Spain is ranked number one, while Japan occupies the seventh position. The Super Falcons have a lot of work if they want to remain in the tournament more than in the group stage.

I will probably just watch the highlights to the match later tonight, I really was looking forward to watching how the Super Falcons would fare against the Brazilian side, too bad they're starting the group stage with a loss, it's going to be difficult to get through to the next stage, but I'm sure the Falcons will never go down without a good fight, and looking at the scoreline, I guess they must have played well enough to earn at least a draw which would been a good result to get from a match against Brazil.

Athletics starts next week on 1st August. It’s probably what I’ve always enjoyed most during the Olympics.

Anything you're looking forward to in particular in the athletics guys?

it was literally a disaster I mean.
It has never happed before that 1 game got 2 hours stop for an invasion in the pitch and a delayed decision of the VAR after 2 hours.
Imagine if it will happen in a major league like Premier League what will be happen in the newspaper, a trash talk civil war.

And yeah this Olympic summer game will be problematic out of the games, like what happened yesterday to Australians ( I believe they were from Australia) with the robbery.

Today we had start of women football and handball tournaments. In football so far without upsets. Also, Rugby-7 already reached 1/4 finals, this tournament is going so fast. Tomorrow we have Opening Ceremony, so, there won't be any competition in play.

What is your problem man? If basketball and volleyball can be included in Olympics, then definitely football can find it's rightful place. And from 2028, cricket is also being included. And you maybe already knowing about the player eligibility criteria. It is essentially an Under-23 competition, with a maximum 3 over-age players being allowed in the roster. And this means that Olympic football tournament is a great opportunity for the younger players. And regarding Paris, I agree that it is a bad choice for hosting the Games.
You do know football has been a sport at the Olympics since 1900, right?
Folks, calm down. Rikafip said well, I'm quoting his post below, first of all I was referring to situation that happened yesterday. But in general, I'm not big fan of mens football in Olympics. I think Olympics should be tournament of best athletes. Football was in the programme since 1900, but since 1992 when age rules were introduced, it stopped to be tournament of best athletes. It's like youth tournament with few older players. I know reasons why it was done, but winning Olympic gold in football isn't same like in basketball or volleyball.

He will me correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that he has issues with football being part of the Olympics but instead he was (probably) referring at what happened yeterday in Morocco-Argrntina game where they disallowed goal Argentina scored for 2-2 hour and a half after the end of the game.

One thing is true though, football at Olympics was never that popular simply because of u23 rule and it will remain like that until that is changed (which I don't think will happen).

Decent start to the Olympics 2024 so far in my opinion. The football matches were quite boring except for the Argentina-Morocco one which was really entertaining all the way till the end surprisingly.

The handball match between South Korea and Germany was fire with the Koreans winning by just 1 freaking point.

As for the Morroco fans, why the Pikachu faces, remember what happened in 2022 in Belgium after the match?

As a kid I used to watch the Olympics with my family. It was really fun to watch the games particularly the track games and football. To be honest I was more interested in the opening ceremony than the games itself. The Olympics was quite the show.

I’m not so keen on the Olympics anymore. I would not bet on Olympics games especially after the controversy of yesterday’s game between Argentina and Morocco. I wonder the reactions of gamblers who lost their bet in that game. And how did casinos manage the situation? Was the game considered a win for Morocco or was the bet canceled because of the controversy?

The Olympics used to be such a big deal when I was a kid. Now I feel like most people won’t even have access to watch it because it isn’t on Netflix… Sure, we’ll get to see what happens on social media, but I doubt a very high percentage of human beings throughout the planet will be tuning in to watch even a single event live.
This has become a problem since the previous games, as I love to watch as much as I can and during the previous edition I could only find one TV channel that transmitted some events live, and only for a couple of hours.

Which surprised me greatly, as I still remember the days in which the Summer Olympics dominated the TV programming and you could watch them all day, if that is what you wanted.
I think the problem is not because of the Olympic itself but it was the TV companies who got greedy and they rather televise programs which earns them more money than having to air one program all day but it still have some advantages to other people because they might not like watching the Olympics. Anyways, we still have the internet now, and we can always watch the Olympics there even for a whole day or for the whole week.

Then it is left only to wish every team luck and play fair Cheesy I really hope that everyone will compete fair and be clean from doping.

Btw, those who watch Olympic games, do you watch your favourite sport only, or sport where your country participate? I prefer to watch specific sports mostly and cheer for new record to be set. I find it really to cool to see if an athlete has improved so much during 4 years, that he has performed much better than gold medals owner of a previous games and set a new record. It is even cooler if a really old record is beaten.
my primary interest in the Olympics is mostly with regards the sports my nation has full representation in outside of which I look out for popular sports that I've interest in like swimming, table tennis and soccer. Olympics is basically for the fun of it and a means of uniting the world through sports. I've never considered staking a bet in any of the sports caus you can't really predict the outcome of most of those games exception of that where nations that are good at the said game are involved but even at that, for a difference of four years before hosting an Olympic games, you can't really tell the strength of the players that are involved in the games. Argentina lost to Morocco and if I was to do the prediction I would most likely predict that Argentina was going to win. Another advantage of the Olympics is that it lets you enjoy the uniqueness in other sports that are probably not regular on your TV.
