Football in Olympics, what a joke. First day of Olympics and we already have big scandal even before opening ceremony. It's biggest sport event in 4 years and France already failed with security. And then when it was already possible to play these remaining few minutes, everything probably was done according to rules, but still, such things always looks contraversial.

With things like this you can't help but ask if France are doing this on purpose. I mean in terms of the security. Argentina complained that they were attacked and a player was robbed. Fireworks were thrown at them. I think it's the French people that just want to take revenge on the Argentine squad for what the senior team did on the bus. I think French people took that very personally.

As for the match, I still don't understand why they had to come back and review the goal. If a match has ended then everybody has to move on. I don't think it's right to call a match back to review a goal, it doesn't make sense. The goal should be reviewed before they suspended the match.

The Olympics games for football has kicked off and a few games were played today, I was able to follow up with one of the games and I didn't find it really interesting enough, I don't want to really make conclusions but so far I'm not impressed enough except going further it gets better.

Looking at the performance today it is looking like the Olympics isn't going to be an easy one to make predictions on, it's not having a definite pattern just yet and many other country Stars may not get to participate because the season are here already and it will exert a lot of pressure on them. The Olympics currently don't seem like a game really appreciated in the football world, it doesn't seem to get good ranking and not often mentioned in career achievements of footballers and even coaches at times, this may be a contributing factor to the low attention the Olympics get with football.

Argentina vs Morocco was crazy, big controversy.

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soccer/news/what-happened-argentina-morocco-olympic-soccer-equalizer-2024-games/4d65d4f2d566c84f9341ce72

Javier Mascherano's side managed to pull one back through Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone, and then scored a dramatic equalizer in the 16th minute of added time at the end of the match. Cristian Medina's goal was bundled in after multiple efforts had hit the woodwork.

With so much unexplainable added time for Argentina to find a goal, the events of the match clearly frustrated Morocco fans — so much so that they invaded the field of play and threw objects near the players.

While it seemed the match concluded after the goal, that was not the case, and after over an hour of deliberation, the end of the game was sensationally reversed. Ultimately, Argentina fell 2-1 to Morocco in highly controversial fashion.

What happened at the end of Argentina vs. Morocco Olympic soccer match?

At the end of the 90 minutes, Morocco were leading 2-1. However, the African side spent the majority of the second half wasting time, which led to the referee adding an extra 15 minutes of injury time.

That highly unusual amount of time was down to time-wasting tactics by Morocco as well as a pitch invasion towards the end of the game. Still, it was hard to justify such an incredibly high number.

When Giuliano Simeone scored his equalizer 30 seconds after the 15 minutes had come and gone, Moroccan fans lost their heads, invading the pitch and throwing objects towards the Argentine players. Reports of a firecracker landing next to Julian Alvarez circulated.

Argentinian journalist Hugo Balassone suggested that this tournament has implemented a new method for added time: the VAR has a stopwatch to make up for "lost time." This ensures that teams are appropriately punished for wasting time and give the opponent a fair amount of play to find a goal.

Medina's strike, which came after an insane series of rebounds, post strikes and saves by Munir El Kajoui, appeared to be the final kick of the match.

The officials initially announced that the match was suspended due to the fan disruptions, however it was then later confirmed that the game had indeed finished 2-2 on the official Olympic website. However, after over an hour of deliberation, the match was sensationally brought back to life by the referee, who spotted an issue with Argentina's equalizer.

In a truly astonishing turn of events, the goal was disallowed by VAR due to an offside, with the decision coming over an hour after the supposed end of the match. Throughout that time, players and coaches had reportedly been kept in the locker rooms while deliberations on how to proceed continued.

Ultimately, the match officials decided to bring all the players back out onto the pitch and warm up for 10 minutes, before then having the referee officially review the incident and determine the goal to be nullified — over 90 minutes after the match had appeared to be finished. By rule, the goal could not be officially reviewed by the referees without the players on the pitch.

Why was Argentina's goal ruled out by VAR?

From a purely sporting perspective, the decision to rule out Argentina's late equalizer against Morocco was the correct decision.

Ignacio Fernandez was judged to have been offside on Bruno Amione's shot that cannoned off the crossbar moments before Simeone's goal. The rebound off the woodwork winds up in Fernandez's lap, and it's his header to the far post which puts the ball into Simeone's path for the goal.

The controversy, obviously, comes in the manner with which the decision took place. It seemed that the match had concluded after Simeone's equalizer, with the result even appearing official at one point. However, over 90 minutes after the match "ended," play was restarted and Morocco played out to a 2-1 victory.

Over four hours after kickoff, the result was finally sealed, as the final three minutes of action took place with no fans in the stands.

Following the result, Argentina head coach Javier Mascherano dubbed the events "the biggest circus I have ever seen in my life."

Lionel Messi posted to his Instagram the word "insolito" on a black background, which translates in English to "unbelievable."

First round of Olympic Football matches started today with eight matches in the schedule.
Argentina is playing the first match in the tournament against Morocco and this two teams never played against each other before.
Alvarez, Rulli, and Otamendi are all playing for Argentina after winning Copa America few weeks ago, but they are alerady losing the first half against Morocco.
I am expecting more goals and interesting second half between this two teams.
Another possible surprise is Uzbekistan vs Spain 1:1 in first half.

All matches played today:

Argentina vs Morocco
Uzbekistan vs Spain
Egypt vs Dominican Republic
Guinea vs New Zealand
Iraq vs Ukraine
Japan vs Paraguay
France vs USA
Mali vs Israel

Surprisingly, as basketball is so popular in USA and has strongest league, US did not participate with both men and women teams in a new Olympic games competition: 3x3 basketball. Only US women team participated in 3x3 basketball and won gold medal. Also surprisingly, how close all the games in 3x3 basketball were. This year US is participating in 3x3 basketball, but none of the players represent NBA. All of them are from teams from all over the world.

As far as I know, players need to accrue rating points to participate in the 3x3 Olympic event, which they can only get in FIBA-approved 3x3 tournaments (World Tour). I think a lot of NBA players would like to participate in the 3x3 Olympic event, but they don't have enough time to do it because of their busy schedules during the regular season.

If NBA players dont have time to get rating points for 3x3 Olympic event, then how come they get time to get to 5x5 Olympic event? Their seasons last from October 2023 to July 2024. And if look on the schedule (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023%E2%80%9324_NBA_season), January-April is free time for them. As well as there are 30 team participating. They cant find 3-4 players that arent that busy to participate in any rating points event?

I honestly can't wait for the Olympic Games to start and I can't wait to see Italy in athletics given that in this European they gave us great emotions but also in the previous Olympics, marcel jacobs it was incredible to think that never a The Italian had achieved a record and even winning the 100 meter dash I would say is already history, who knows if he will be able to repeat it, I remember it well also thanks to the bet that made me win Cheesy
It's going to be a very great match up for this Olympics, as Marcel Jacobs is the defending champion here. But we have seen Noah Lyles really improving in the last couple of years and I think this two are going to be the favorites in the 100 meters. However, I don't see them breaking Bolt's record, I'm not sure if anyone can touches that record to be honest as Bolt set that during his prime. So kinda different for this Olympics, congrats to you for making the bet. However, as I have said, it will not be easy for Jacobs to defend his medal this Olympics as there are a lot of upcoming sprinters, not just from the US.

Yeah, and just like the USA team, it will take time for NBA players to really commit for the 3x3 so I must say that they the "pro" players decided to just skipped this tournament completely ad focus on the gold medal for the 5x5 basketball since this is the one of the centerpiece of the Olympics as the USA is the defending champion in this tournament.

They can still send players, perhaps from colleges to represent them. But then again, it is completely very different competition and USA is not the favorite to win in the mens as it is the Serbian that are rank higher than them.

I think that everyone really exaggerates things now just for the sake of it, the level is 3 times higher than it is safe for drinking water, but remember Rio for example?
Quote
A report commisioned by the Associated Press has revealed that water in Rio's Olympic and Paralympic venues holds viral levels 1.7m times what would be considered alarming in the United States and Europe just five days before the Games get underway

If you would apply those standards to other regions probably not a single river in whole countries would be safe to even dip your toe in it.
Yeah, I remember same things before Rio Olympics, condition of water wasn't much better there too. But somehow everything ended OK without any bad consequences. Not sure that things is exaggerated here, but they have to look seriously into it. But damn, how good to have safe river in my city where you can dip into it on hot summer day Smiley
BTW, I read that surfing event will be hell in Tahiti, French Overseas territory, 15 700 km from Paris. It's record for the farthest Olympic medal competition to be held outside the host.

Strong teams, like US basketball team, have high demands and expectations due to their high level of basketball play and any defeat will attract attention, criticism and trolling. And in the case of the Olympics, this is especially true when the opponents are teams from other countries. Among which there are also quite strong teams. And among them there are also enough contenders for a gold medal. Sport is a thing in which it is impossible to achieve heights without “staying consistent”. But should also take into account the factor of chance (even professionals can make mistakes) and the fact that other teams are also improving and will not give in.

Are you guys betting on the olympics, and if you do, then what's the best casino for doing it?

I would say it's a good event to bet in china, they are on another level, and for sure the odds will be low fo them, but let's see. I feel this Olympics will have a lot of tension, of I'm not wrong, the president of France already asked to the OTAN for some kind of security reinforcement to avoid any kind of conflict.

But personally, i like more this event than the wold cup, let's enjoy it guys.
You mean the best sports bookie? I think Sportsbet.io will be the best place to bet for the Paris Olympics event.

There's always tension when countries are competing but I do hope it won't go as far as counting body bags because this is just to boost sportsmanship in the whole world. Basketball can be a bit out of hand but the Olympics is very strict when it comes to the rules of unsportsmanlike acts. They can throw a player out easily or maybe even disqualify them if they won't behave properly.

Forget AC, they will be swimming in sewage water trying not to swallow E. coli and shit. I guess that's the only truly sustainable resource in the Seine.

I don't remember Rio actually, haha. I've no doubt most rivers in all major cities are unsafe -- but that's why we don't organise competitive swims in these rivers heh. My own hometown has a huge river (but is still alive, people still fish in there, unlike the Seine or most other post-Industrialism dead rivers in Europe) and there's an annual regatta there, huge event, but no one swims in it Smiley

I do think some things are exaggerated, but I actually think Paris is exaggerating how safe it is. I've personally had to drink contaminated water for years for my work, with chlorine tablets of course (but the sewage smell remains) but I'd never be telling people those rivers are safe for swimming. Anyway, moot point, it will be held there, good to see also, maybe it forces future rethinks about improving the water quality (and sewage system).

The Olympics used to be such a big deal when I was a kid. Now I feel like most people won’t even have access to watch it because it isn’t on Netflix… Sure, we’ll get to see what happens on social media, but I doubt a very high percentage of human beings throughout the planet will be tuning in to watch even a single event live.
This has become a problem since the previous games, as I love to watch as much as I can and during the previous edition I could only find one TV channel that transmitted some events live, and only for a couple of hours.

Which surprised me greatly, as I still remember the days in which the Summer Olympics dominated the TV programming and you could watch them all day, if that is what you wanted.

Good for you, as far as I can remember, only few games are very shown in our local TV and everything will be reported either in the 6'o clock news or at 10 pm. And it was funny because the live telecast will be just the opening and closing ceremonies and you wait for your flag to be seen on TV  Grin.

Who amongst you still remember the 1992 Barcelona Olympics? The iconic flaming arrow to open up the Olympics? It was so creative after that, the next host city will have to think to top that.

One of the best, IMHO.

Damn lighting up the flame with an arrow is tight I forgot that they did that. The games are now only just a little ways away!! I think I’m gonna be placing a few bets here on the Olympics I’m just not entirely sure yet what I’m gonna do here, now I’m curious how they’re gonna light the flame again lol

France seems to be going all out this year. From what I have seen. I am hoping we will get something spectacular and remarkable. Everyone is watching primarily because of the mass-pooping protest that Parisians did in the olympic river.

There is still not much clarity on how many Russian and Belarussian athletes will be taking part in the 2024 Olympics. The latest number according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is 32, with 17 from Belarus and 15 from Russia. During the previous Olympics, Russian athletes (then competing as part of the ROC) won a total of 71 medals including 20 golds. On the other hand, Belarus won 7 medals including one gold. Their absence this time will benefit other nations such as United States, China, Japan and Great Britain.
