Wow, it's almost starting, only 5 days to the start of the Olympics  Shocked

This time Brazil won't be taking part in men's soccer, unfortunately, but I'll be following surfing, skateboarding, women's soccer and canoeing
In these sports I can place bets, and in the others I'll probably just watch

But my favorite sport is surfing hehehe, I'm rooting hard for João Chianca, Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo to get a gold medal

You don't expect Basketball fans not to always want to criticize the seemingly best team if the sport in the world if they fail at a major event like the Olympics. The US basketball team enjoys all the recognitions and global relevance as the best in the sport which also attracts more people who wants them to fall so it's left for them to always strive to remain consistent or allow the backlashes from basketball fans to get to them. I think they're still going to win gold in the soon-to-be kicked off Olympics
Strong teams, like US basketball team, have high demands and expectations due to their high level of basketball play and any defeat will attract attention, criticism and trolling. And in the case of the Olympics, this is especially true when the opponents are teams from other countries. Among which there are also quite strong teams. And among them there are also enough contenders for a gold medal. Sport is a thing in which it is impossible to achieve heights without “staying consistent”. But should also take into account the factor of chance (even professionals can make mistakes) and the fact that other teams are also improving and will not give in.

Have to say, Olympics was something to really tune in for many countries to feel some sort of link with athletes closer to home. For instance, just a few years ago, some kid from my village (population of my entire people is 300,000) won silver in diving -- of all sports, where we don't even have pools to practise.

This is the reason why there are lots of sports invented and covered on different sporting events like Olympics. Gaining gold medals doesn't depend on the sport or if it's a good one or not but it depends on the player or teams that are playing it. If they are pro at it then there is a big chance that they can snatch a gold medal on the specific sport that they are playing. You might be right about sports being outgrown because even on other things like for example in toys, this also happens. It's only normal and we shouldn't blame our selves for this.

I don't think our differences is what determines which events are covered by Olympics. That's more thanks to lobbying. Olympics I believe is originally summed up by "faster, higher, stronger". There are some "sports" that doesn't at all echo those value, bowling to me being one of them. There is argument for mental exertion, but without the physical element (yes, why I also don't think Olympics should pass on poker forever), these games should stick to World Mind Sport Games (which was so unpopular it died) or similar.

I was reading about these Olympics, which will be the most sustainable games in history, I feel a little tired with this issue of sustainability, poor athletes, there won't even be air conditioning in the rooms in the heat of Paris...

Forget AC, they will be swimming in sewage water trying not to swallow E. coli and shit. I guess that's the only truly sustainable resource in the Seine.

The heat in Paris is below 30 for the next 10 days and it's not expected to turn over even by early August, so not that much heat, western Europe is quite cool, even colder than normal. Besides, it wasn't like they will not be using any type of conditioning, they were just ditching the usual AC for a complete geothermal system to bring the whole temperature of the building down.

also, If the US fails to take the gold in basketball I am certain a lot of people will troll the NBA and its fans.

Depends, it's not like the US is that interested in the Olympics, the current team you can call it it's just a grab that is thrown away in a few matches and sent to the Olympics, unlike most of the other national teams.
In some sports they don't care about Olympics, look who's playing in the football tournament for example

I don't think professionals should think about trolls or memes too hard. Everyone likes to watch the favorites fail, regardless of the sport and competition. I'm pretty sure there are some circlejerk subs somewhere making fun of some athletes somewhere. Taking them seriously would only drain your energy. That being said, I'm pretty sure every team have their own target and it's no surprise if the US wants to win the gold medal.
These are things that will always come so getting worked up by all of this as a professional is something that I think any professional should be doing knowing there will be days when it will get even better and this same people will join you to celebrate your good days. Winning for the advancement of your career should be the focus of professionals and ths fans and support will be an added advantage on their path.

Almost time.
It's true that we will have the Games in Europe this year but it is not a great time at the moment.

We are in full summer and it is very hot here around.
Luckily the temperature are going down a little the next week, let's hope that the track is fast so we can see some world records, the 110hs can be one of it.

The Olympics used to be such a big deal when I was a kid. Now I feel like most people won’t even have access to watch it because it isn’t on Netflix… Sure, we’ll get to see what happens on social media, but I doubt a very high percentage of human beings throughout the planet will be tuning in to watch even a single event live.
This has become a problem since the previous games, as I love to watch as much as I can and during the previous edition I could only find one TV channel that transmitted some events live, and only for a couple of hours.

Which surprised me greatly, as I still remember the days in which the Summer Olympics dominated the TV programming and you could watch them all day, if that is what you wanted.

Good for you, as far as I can remember, only few games are very shown in our local TV and everything will be reported either in the 6'o clock news or at 10 pm. And it was funny because the live telecast will be just the opening and closing ceremonies and you wait for your flag to be seen on TV  Grin.

Who amongst you still remember the 1992 Barcelona Olympics? The iconic flaming arrow to open up the Olympics? It was so creative after that, the next host city will have to think to top that.

One of the best, IMHO.

I think the Barcelona Olympics was the last time anyone really cared. I don’t think I’ve seen an event live since… I’ve also never bet on an Olympic event before, but I think I’ll probably change that with these games. The Olympics used to be a big deal. Media companies need to do a better job showing it.

Finally we have Olympics in Europe, for the first time since 2012 London. It means that won't have to get up in morning hours like it was in PyongChang 2018, Tokyo 2021 or Beijing 2022. Or watch all nigh long like Rio 2016.
For me main events is athletics and swimming. Basketball too, but I lost interest a bit when my country failed to qualify. Also, going to focus on sports where athletes from my country will perform. Oh, and forgot beach volleyball - it's one most eye catching sports Wink
There is so many events happening in such short time like 2 weeks, it's impossible to watch everything even if you have 10 screens. Some less popular sports won't get muc hinterest because they will be in shadow of main events.

So true! It was about time for Europeans to enjoy Olympics once again at decent hours right ? Also the French hour is most likely the perfect hour for the entire Europe to have time and watch the Olympics and personally I can't wait for the official start.

So many events indeed and I can't even know what to chose but I will watch gymnastics for sure , basketball as well and of course swimming legends where I will cheer for Popovic from Romania.  Cool Cool

Hey, Olympics are here. And nobody really cares for anything other than football and maybe the dashes and the marathons, right? The day bowling became an official sports, I knew it was a matter of time before it just became an excuse to gain more gold medals. Used to like watching the badminton too, and even some of the martial arts. Feels like I've outgrown all of them though.

For me, the ones that I watch are the X games or those board games like Snowboarding and Skateboarding. We can think that only few games are important but there are so many people in this world and each of us has our own differences.

This is the reason why there are lots of sports invented and covered on different sporting events like Olympics. Yes, USA has started their training camp already. But we have Greece with Giannis and then the French Team, Wemby and Gobert  who are also present so the Basketball event is going to be one of the best watch.

Well, Serbia has Jokic, and Canada has SGA and Murray. However, the US team hasn't had any problems with these teams in recent showcase games. I think the main problem with teams from other countries is that they have one or two all-star players in their lineups. This is obviously not enough to counteract the US team, which has almost the entire roster of All-Star players.

I have been waiting for the Olympics to start ever since I started watching the trials. There's too many events to list that I will be interested in but swimming, archery, and basketball, but I will be watching quite a few more events. Less than a week to go til opening ceremonies and then we are off.

Good luck to all the countries.

Looks like those in the USA can watch plenty of the Olypics as a lot are scheduled to be on the channel USA. Check your provider to see if you have it.

And it's part of being in the limelight specially basketball, they know that they are going to be trolled regardless of the outcome. The USA team though have lost in other world competitions and have been trolled but they get up and move forward.

For sure, this are sports athlete and they should know how to control themselves and try to block every negative energy. Like they are going to play in other homecourt and for sure they will hear a lot of boos from the French people or the crowd since they also have a team that will compete against the USA team. And France has the twin towers in Gobert and Wemby so the USA team should be ready to be heckled and booed if they go against the home team here.

To many people just think that this current USA line up can over power their opponent and expect a lot from them that's why if they lost and missed a chance to get a gold medal then provably that this incident will be on media and people will really criticize them for the fact that they already have the talent in this world but they still failed.

But I guess failure for this current roster is not gonna happen since they pretty work well together and we can see on their tune up games that these guys are winning. This Paris Olympic gold medal will just be added on achievement or collection to Team USA basketball team.
