Serbia is again the Olympic winner in water polo.
At the beginning of the tournament, in the group stage, it seemed that Greece and Spain have the best chances, but in the continuation of the tournament, Serbia raised the level of the game and beat Spain in the semifinal and today Greece in the final.
Congratulation Serbia!

Serbian dolphins managed to beat Spain and Greece for the gold medal! I watched both games, and I can say it was tight until the end!

Well, it was a third gold medal for my country, putting Serbia in 28th place, with 1 silver and 5 bronze medals... this is a record for my country, we won 1 more medal than the last time in Brasil where we had 8 medals!

Nice Olympics, as expected US won the most medals... in one little moment I thought that the Chinese can keep the lead, but last few days they just couldn't keep up with the US!

Finally USA top with gold! By only one, but my outright bet is saved I thought I lost it already!

Proudest day as a fan of the sport as Neeraj Chopra won the first ever Gold Medal in track and field for India in Javelin throw. My phoned kept popping up with messages about the gold medal victory and to be frank this is the first time i am hearing about him even though he is a Common Wealth Gold medal winner and was an upcoming talent in the junior level, there is not much encouragement from the media or anyone else apart from Cricket and it is really depressing.

Shout outs to Neeraj Chopra and all the other winners Kiss.

This is totally so amazing, well done to you guys, this Olympics has been so great for all of us in Asia. First golds for India, Philippines, Indonesia? And in sports that were unexpected (except badminton).

It's been a tough year for everyone with Covid, and still so much danger to face but this is good news and good cheer for everyone!

What a come from behind from USA to take the lead in gold in this Olympics.

You should also include Taiwan in the list of the countries as well, they have a 2 gold haul in this Olympics and then Hong Kong and Thailand. South East Asia (SEA) is well represented in Tokyo. Yeah, this Covid situation really bring the best (and worst) of our athletes.

The USA managed to beat France by 5 points in the cutthroat game. Kevin Durant was the winner in the USA. In the Olympics, they took the Gold medal in men's basketball to the museum for the 4th time in a row.

In women's basketball, the USA beat Japan 90-75 and reached the gold medal in the match played today.

Congrats, USA !

the current standing for top 3 is China-38, USA- 33 and Japan-24. it Looks like China will dominate the Olympics as the county with the most gold. if China can retain its current spot this will be China's second time to be ranked first in the Olympics.

just out of curiosity has anyone seen a sportsbook posting odds for whoever becomes the top 3 on the Tokyo Olympics?

At the moment, the gap has narrowed to 4 gold medals. In any case, I would not talk about domination - this is a small gap in quantity. In addition, the United States is confidently leading in the total number of medals. Japan has made an impressive leap forward and seems to guarantee itself the top 3.
I guess I worded it wrongly. I should have used "top" or "lead". that being said, looking at the current standing, the USA is currently is ranked 1 as the country with the most gold. looking at the Aug 8 Tokyo Olympic schedule the US still has 3 matches for Gold. 2 on Boxing and 1 on Volleyball while china has 1 gold match on Boxing.

EDIT: the US Volleyball team won against Brazil giving the US its 39th Gold.

There is only 1 day left until the end of the Olympic Games.

China still has more gold medals, but the US still has about 5 opportunities for gold, against 2 or 3 for China. So the US still has a good chance of overtaking China in the gold medals.
We'll see how the last day of the Olympic Games goes!

"Opportunities for gold" doesn't necessarily translates to gold. But at this point, it needs to be remembered that even with the same number of gold medals, the United States will be on top (because they have more silver medals when compared to China). I was expecting Russia to get promoted to the 4th place, but they suffered upset defeats in two of the items in which they enjoyed a monopoly for more than two decades (rhythmic gymnastics - team event and individual event). So it looks as if the final standing will be as follows - China or US at no.1 or no.2, Japan at no.3, Great Britain at no.4 and ROC at no.5.

One of the medals that were lost with great pain was by the girls in the 400mx4 relay, if that medal had been won the gap would have been much narrower, now there are the sports that represent the Olympics, an Olympic marathon that is one one of my favorites, I hope the USA or China shine there, although Kenya is the country that always shines here.

However, the American athlete Allyson Felix is the one who has more Olympic medals than any female track athlete, they are great achievements by American athletes, here is the article dedicated to it:

I read about Felix as well, truly amazing feat and there are some awesome back stories to all of them too. I also read recently though about a Russian gymnast who was pushed and pushed but eventually broke her neck and became permanently crippled. Sports success stories really shine through but the failures are forgotten sometimes and we as normal people tend to overlook the sacrifices and hard work that brought a lot of these people gold.

I LOVE marathons too:)

It's at the Olympics that you get to know nations that really encourages spots as some nations has got almost zero athletes and participants in certain spots. This lives me to think that the ranking by medal isn't very justifying though, its the only way to go about it.
You can agree that the 2 leading nations as at now, the Republic of China and the United States of America has got everything about sports covered from equipments to athletes on every field and the athletes are really passionate about what they do. I enjoy it so well to have watched them win and it's also a painful sight to see some others loose. Like almost the entire Japan team cried bitterly after they lost to Mexico at the match for the Bronze medal. The bitterness for sure came out of a once in a lifetime lost opportunity for some and for others, they've got 3years of wait for another trier and hope they get that far even.

6 gold medal difference between China (38) and USA (34) though on an over scale, USA (102) still leads ahead of China (84) with a 18 medal difference as at now.

The gap between China and the United States have now grown to 6 gold medals. China - 37, US - 31, Japan - 24, Britain - 18, Russia - 17, Australia - 17. I expect only one minor change in the medal rankings, and that is Russia to replace Britain at the no.4 position. Russia has a couple of guaranteed gold medal items in the last two days (in rhythmic gymnastics). The Russian dominance in rhythmic gymnastics in the Olympics can be compared to the American dominance in basketball. They have won the gold medal continuously since 2000.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
I see that today the difference between China and the United States has reduced to 5 gold medals. In silver and bronze medals, the United States is undeniably in the lead. I think that it will be very difficult for China to keep the first place, in the last couple of days their pace has decreased significantly.

US has not been performing to expectations but still a lot more days to the tournament. I think for some reason a lot of countries are motivated to beat China,,, or at least this is what I can tell from a lot of posts on social media I am sure you have seen also. I mean I get it China is not popular these days but nothing to do with the athletes.

4 more medals to catch up but China also can win more.
This is a problem for the US, I have no problems believing that they can win four gold medals during the events that remain, the problem is that China has the possibility of winning a few gold medals of their own, so it will be interesting to know what are the reasons for this potential loss for the US, many people are probably going to point out their fingers to Simone but that should not be enough for the US to lose against China, so something else must be happening.

Two days before the end of the 2020 Olympic Games, the US finally managed to get closer to China, in gold medals. And there was a big increase in medals overall.
Will they, in these two days, be able to win more gold medals and overtake China?

Gap now reduced to 4 medals. Just two days remain and I don't really think that enough items remain now for US to overtake China. A number of star US athletes failed to win gold medals, especially in gymnastics as well as track and field. Any chance of the United States topping the medals table evaporated at that point. Tomorrow we have the gold medal match in basketball and a few other items. US may end up somewhere around 35 golds and China may end up slightly ahead of them.

The gold medal gap rose again to 5. It seems that China will indeed be able to stay in first place, although if you look at the total number of medals, then the United States has an undeniable advantage - they are ahead of China almost by 20 medals. In fact, the second place for the United States is a failure in literally several types of competitions and a great success for China, which earned fewer medals, but the share of gold is large.

This was what all bookmakers expected. The USA being the country that would get the most medals of gold.
The Olympic games are almost over. That's why the chances of the USA to overcome China, in gold medals, starts to be more and more difficult.

My fingers are still crossed for a good outcome, as I said I bet on US to win most gold. Not THAT much money but still more than I normally put for a single bet. I was really quite stupid to think 1.1 was a good odd I don't know what came over me.

China is really going to take over the world in sports some day I guess, and this is how it's going to look like pretty much from now on. What do you think?

Serbia won over Spain in Waterpolo, and reach final with Greece
tremendous effort in fourth quarter from Serbia, Spain had 7:4 at one moment, but 9:10 in the end, and Serbia reached final

Greece won over Hungary this morning, 9:6, so reach final

looking at both team performance up to this point, and overall strength, seems that gold with see Serbia after all, Greece is a good team, but far from experience needed in Finals
will be interesting for 5th place as well, Spain and Hungary are both great teams, but Spain is a bit closer to bronze, IMO
