I saw this fight live, and I really think that if the classification was stolen from the Colombian, it is also necessary to highlight that the Japanese were taken out in a wheelchair, at least in the news on Caracol Tv they say that they stole the fight from the boxer.

What do you think of it?

Awarding points in boxing is always a controversial topic. There can be occasions where it is not very clear which boxer had the upper hand. In such cases, the scoring will depend on what the judges think. Ever since modern boxing moved from a knockout based system to a points based system, this has been the case. As such, there is no readymade solution. May be in the near future, artificial intelligence may become a reality and robots will be able to decide the points. Till then, the human error and uncertainty will be there in the boxing ring.

you know the Olympics could make a "bubble" (the bubble I am saying here is like an isolation zone where only staff, athletes, etc.. are allowed) after the vaccination of the athletes that are only exclusive to the athletes, coaches, staff and etc... the NBA "bubble" was deemed successful as a preventive measure to keep the staffs and the athletes healthy, safe and infected free during the NBA.
I know about bubble but I don't think that it's a completely safe way to prevent the pandemic from entering, unless they have made the preparation to be able to create a large scale bubble. Th e Olympics have started and it seems that things are going smooth and virus free though so I do admit that I am wrong about this one, enjoyed the matches.

Hey guys

One question, how did you see the fight between the Colombian and the Japanese? Only the results appear in the news, but at least for Colombia they were not satisfied with the result, apparently the judges gave the Japanese a great help:

Olympics: Japan's Ryomei Tanaka makes men's boxing flyweight semis

Quote
The 27-year-old Tanaka defeated Martinez Rivas on a split decision at Kokugikan Arena, winning 4-1 on points to set up a meeting with Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in the semifinals on Thursday.

The Brazilian soccer team just beat Mexico 4-1 on penalties. We expect Brazil to reach the final, but the way it happened (the match score was 0-0, not a single goal scored) left many betters who were betting on Brazil to win in regulation time and on the number of goals during the match.

Game is in the second half now and still no goals so far, at least the second half did not half any ugly and hidden fouls as of now. The game was really not nice to watch during the first half. The game is still pretty tough, and the referee plays a big part in that, as he let go through a lot of minor fouls.  So far i don't see a big advantage for one of the both teams as the game is completely open and both teams are neutralising each other pretty much. The brazilian team has definitely the better individual players but so far the mexican team knows to deal with that very well and also the mexican defense does a great job so far and is looking very solid.

Supremely disappointing. You do expect this on senior games but I generally assume U23s to be more like youth games. Free flowing, aggressive, athletic, fast, and super positive. To be fair they both had about 5 shots on goal but still playing way too careful to really unlock the gates. Needed a goal quickly to shake things up but in the end we head for extra time now. Either way, I'm screwed with the results. Boo:)

Against my own better judgment, started a long 5-leg acca today and put Brazil on my ticket. Mexico have actually been playing really well, the type of football I like, but I think Brazil's just oozing with too much talent to ignore. 17 mins now, and much of it niggly fouls and no shots on goal, so am slightly disappointed so far. Afternoon game should be entertaining with the hosts getting so far but finally meeting the best team they've had so far in Spain!

Similar incidents have happened several times in Olympics. This time it is something special, because the medals were shared between two friends. After the ceremony Tamberi mentioned Barshim as his friend since 2010. In an world championship meet both became friends. Few years back Tamberi had attended the wedding of Barshim. Now both has shared the medal shows the value of friendship and true sportsmanship.

I didn't know this story!
It makes things more exciting and you can better understand the emotion experienced by the Italian player. Bearing in mind that he had a problem with his foot a year earlier, it didn't allow him to compete. Certainly they trained together lately.
So, they also had an equal performance.

What made the second gold more memorable was that the Italian shared the gold with the Qatari and both were so happy (you should see the video).

I love this kind of sportsmanship so much:)

This attitude and sportsmanship was fantastic. This shows the greatness of the Olympic games by allowing this behavior.

And what also made the Italian player more emotional was the fact that if the Olympics had really happened last year he would not have participated, because of a foot problem. In this case he has to thank the late games.

there are some unpleasant comments about this on youtube...

some people who think negatively say that they actually don't want to give up and don't want to repeat because they are tired and the chances of winning are getting smaller if the decisive jump is made.

I don't care about their response, of course I salute the two athletes who are willing to share the gold podium

I saw a lot of people at sports and at Olympics though is where you can really see most of the world. We see World Cup and other big tournaments but most of these are rich people OR working people who became rich. But in Olympics you also see real people. Even I saw chubby swimmers and school teachers but everyone of them is like us I guess this explains why we are so drawn to watching it.

Good feelings:)

history was made with second gold for Italy, and also by sharing gold medal between Italian and Qatari in high jumping, memorable scene, congrats to Italy

A lot of hype has been generated in the social media regarding this incident. The left-wing posters claims that the Qatari did something very ethical and offered to share the gold that was due to him to the "injured" Italian. But facts prove that they are wrong. Both had one attempt left, and it was the Qatari athlete who first refused another attempt (both of them had failed to clear 2.39m on three occasions). He refused one attempt, where he had around 1% chance of clearing, and then the media suddenly overhyped it claiming that it was a monstrous act of generosity.  Grin

Yes, it was totally unfair for some competitors. I'm not familiar with the rules of the competition, I guess if there had been strong winds, it would likely have been postponed. But yes, I agree that it should have be postponed under these circumstances as well.

Only if weather conditions change radically in the middle of the competition is it canceled. Otherwise, wind or rain are the same conditions for all athletes.

By the way, there are scores that were reached with the help of the wind, mainly in canoeing. But, there are all the competitors at the time, it was in the same conditions.

Did anybody watch the female discus throw just now? I turned the TV on because Croatian Sandra Perković is a favorite for the medal.

The rain was falling heavily, they could not spin at all. Some of them dropped the discs, some of them fell while spinning. The first ones before the rain now have decent results while the others have strikes, the competition is postponed now.

Not really fair to the contestants but nothing else to do now. They are running hurdles next, hopefully nobody gets injured.

The competition should have been paused as soon as the rain started. But they went on with it. And it not just happened with discuss throw, but with other items in athletics as well. I saw 400m hurdles, where almost everyone struggled to stay balanced. Normal 400m is OK under rainy conditions, but with hurdles, it get really hard. Don't they have rules regarding rain interruption? It is not fair, as some of the players (in discuss) got an opportunity to complete their rotation under rain-free conditions, while the others had to participate under rains.

In my opinion,  organizers should stop all athletic competitions immediately, without delay due to the high risk of injury to competitors.
Sandra Perkovic will have very difficult task to defend the gold medal from the last olympics, currently she is only fifth.
I expect that  competition in female discus throw will continue tomorrow.

I would like to congratulate Lamont Marcell Jacobs for winning the 100-meter race, but he has a long way to go before being able to be compared with a legend such as Usain Bolt. Bolt won a total of 8 gold medals in the Olympic games (from 2008 to 2016). On top of that, he won 11 gold medals in IAAF World Athletics Championships (2007 to 2017). I don't want to insult Jacobs, but he is no way near Bolt in terms of achievements. But given his stellar performance yesterday, I have high hopes on him.

yeah, great race from his side, he managed to speed-up in second part of the race, and to win it in the end
there was a gap in man sprint, after Bolt left the competition, and the race was more than equal with chances to win, so Jacobs managed to use this in his best interest

It was a historic day for Italy and probably perhaps the most exciting day at the summer games ever.
For the first time in history, an Italian reached the final in the hundred meters and even won the race by setting the Italian and European all-time record twice.
But not only this twenty minutes before another Italian managed to win the gold medal in the high jump.
Italians probably remembered this day even in a hundred years.

I saw all the memeplaces sharing all of the images and I instantly thought of you even though I was not really online much yesterday so a belated congratulations to you and all Italians. That was a fantastic feat.
