Lacoste is considering a contract termination with Đoković. They have been partners since 2017 and the contract should have lasted until 2025, it is estimated to be worth up to 9 mil. euros per year.

They are stating that the reason is bad publicity and will apparently turn to Venus Williams.

Another blow for Đoković, although he'll probably find new sponsors soon. Even if not, he already won more than 100 million euros anyway Grin
Is Venus even playing tennis anymore? I sort of think she will play max 5 matches this season and that is if she gets invite to US open.

I believe Djokovic is much more concerned with points and winning grand slams than his sponsors at the moment. As you say, he has more money than he can spend but few more GS titles would go very well with his GOAT candidacy.

Djokovic has so much money that he could also stop playing tennis altogether. He certainly no longer plays tennis for the money, that is no longer a motivation. He is simply in a position not to participate in major tournaments if the corona conditions do not suit him. When Corona is completely gone, it will only get more serious again. Many of his colleagues will also think strangely about Djokovic, tennis players are after all seen as a bit of an exemplary function.

condemned Russia war efforts. I suspect this reason is the trigger because of the timing and possible further bad promotion.

actually, Serbia condemned Russia war effort in the end, but did not put sanctions on them (but yeah, it is a black hole, if you look on Europe map)
however, it could be a fact that brings bad publicity, although Djokovic sent message that he supports Ukraine

what one of my colleagues at work said - Djokovic is now in a great position to wrote a book "how to make shit out of great career"

I assume this move would be fueled by what happened earlier this year in
Australia, is it worthy of a termination of sponsorship though?
Could be that plus the fact that he is Serbian. Serbia is one off the countries that have strong political ties with Russia and one of the very few countries that did not give support to Ukraine or condemned Russia war efforts. I suspect this reason is the trigger because of the timing and possible further bad promotion.

I suspect if there was any concern on Djokovic's part about Lacoste terminating
his contract it would probably be the embarrassment of it all but yea he will get a new
deal for sure.

From that article

Quote
'Some will consider it too lenient'

I think he got away lightly with what essentially was a monetary fine and probation.
It doesnt act as much as a deterrent for future violations, I wouldnt like to see any other
sport ending up like Soccer and the abuse on pitch officials take.

His actions towards the umpire were simply not acceptable, for the
next 12 months he will have to be on best behaviour, could be difficult if you have
that "angry man" tendancy.

^^ Nick is a different case though, he seems to have a problem inside, that's why you can see his antic in the court.

For Zverev, yes, he is a great player and for sure everyone likes the guy. But with his outburst, just shows another side of himself. So I do agree that he will have to learn his lessons and he shouldn't be that emotional in a game.

Latest tennis news:

''World number three Alexander Zverev faces an eight-week ban from tennis if he repeats the behaviour which led to his expulsion from the Mexican Open.''
''In February, the Olympic champion was fined $40,000 (£31,000) and forfeited all his prize money for striking the umpire's chair in Acapulco.
The German 24-year-old will be banned if he commits another similar offence within 12 months of the incident.''

I have to admit that I really like Zverev as a tennis player, but he will obviously have to learn how to control his emotions or he could be kicked out of tennis competitions, which would be a great tragedy for world tennis.
What do you think?

''As with Nick Kyrgios, who was also deemed to have committed a major offence for an ugly pattern of behaviour in 2019, Zverev's extra punishment is on hold.
Kyrgios' 16-week ban was suspended for six months, but due to injury the Australian only played half a dozen tournaments in that time.''

Kyrgios could have achieved much better results in tennis, only if he devoted more time to tennis. Too bad for so much talent, which is not fully realized.

They both have a lot of talent but obviously they lack something to fully realize their huge tennis potential.

Yes incredible given the context of running from Ukraine to compete knowing that
her country was being attacked and especially being able to continue throughout
the week at such a level, she was driven!

I am happy with my two bets yesterday on the Monterrey final, Raducanu won
but with 2 tie breaks which helped my +4.5 handicap on Osorio. They were small bets,
0.02mBTC ON Fernandez and 0.04 on Osorio so both were winners.

Ah it was not to be, after 3 sets Zhang was able to win. It was a great tournament
for the Ukranian and she did indeed have the crowd on her side. I didnt bet on this
match, I couldnt call it.

Yeah, such a shame, I really wanted her to win, and thought she could get through that final match. It was close, particularly after Yastremka took the first set... but ultimately a step too far.
Unbelievable when you think about the context, that she was even able to play tennis this week. Quite incredible, really. And she is donating her tournament prize money to help Ukraine.

Quote
The 21-year-old Yastremska and her 15-year-old sister, Ivanna, spent two nights sheltering in an underground car park after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine before being sent to safety in France by their parents.
After Sunday’s 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat by Zhang, Yastremska, draped in her country’s flag, said: “The prize money I earned here I’m going to give to the Ukrainian foundation to support the Ukraine. And if Ukrainian people are watching me, I want to say you guys are so strong, you have an amazing spirit.

Lyon

The womens final at Lyon is today between Zhang China and Yastremska Ukraine

Yastremska beat the second seed Cirstea yesterday in a 3 set battle, I just caught
half of the last set. Yastremska has really done well to get to the final to play Zhang
who is seeded 8 and who beat Garcia yesterday in 2 sets 2-6, 5-7.

I'm going to go with Yastremska to win this, she's been riding a huge wave in this tournament after fleeing Ukraine, and I think everyone in the crowd will want her to win the title. She may be a wild-card, but she's got the ability. And I think after the US Open last season, no-one is surprised to see a wild-card or qualifier burst through from nowhere.

Monterrey FINAL

Osorio v Fernandez, fifth seed v the second seed, this could be a really good
match, I would love to see this but its on too late here.

I have 2 bets on, one on each player!
I have Fernandez to win @ 1.34 and +4.5 handicap on Osorio.

I just came across one tennis news story that surprised me.

''Andy Murray back with Ivan Lendl who helped him win Wimbledon, US and Olympic titles''
''Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray are getting back together again, with the two due to start work in the United States next month.''

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/60618699

As for Murray, I was actually expecting completely different news, that he was finally retiring from tennis after a long tennis break due to numerous injuries.
What is truly amazing is his great perseverance and love for tennis, and his willingness to continue despite all the problems due to injuries.
That’s why I have a lot of respect for him as a tennis player, but I don’t think even his former coach and tennis legend Lendl can help him get back on the tracks of old glory.
What do you think?

Weird news, isn't it, when we thought that he is done with tennis because of his health and obviously it has affected his performance, comes this news that he will still continue and with Lendl again?

I'm not sure what Andy needs to really quit the game for good. The competition right now is on the highest level and he didn't even win any tournament when he comes back and yet he is still pursuing this tennis dream to at least end the note with one a final championship.

These countries walk with pride, how happy it would be if I became a citizen of one of those countries, hehe but maybe some future performances might be able to participate, and I'm happy to watch it, some of these countries defend and compete, I am so supportive and hopefully can run well, maybe not too free, yes, not like last year, but in my opinion it doesn't reduce to excitement like a proper match,

Yastremska is the superior team, yes, during the match, I agree with @Cnut237, especially when you leave Ukraine, there may be other reasons. About something that happened in Ukraine, it doesn't hinder the talent and performance of the athletes, and I think they deserve and deserve to be appreciated.

Anybody watched first day of Davis Cup? Is it all played in same revenue and what is the turf? Would like to play some bets today and it is difficult without knowing how fast is the surface.

There was a lot of strange results yesterday so I'll probably try to continue in same way and place some handicaps on underdogs.

Not watching it, I cannot seem to find a channel where it is televised.
It is televised on local televisions for each country and some sports channels. I have coverage of several matches but the odds are rubbish and I can't place handicaps on all the matches I want. There simple isn't any markets.

Thanks for link, I see now they are played in different countries on different surfaces. I thought this will be same as last year, one venue for all of them but I guess that comes only in the final stage.
I read on internet KOKKINAKIS CLINCHES the win for Australia after almost seven years, some good stuff for Aussie fan after the sad new Shane Warne passing.  People in our country have not much interest in Tennis, it is considered as sport of elite. I keep my self update by reading the new on internet. My local news channels doesn't tell anything about the tennis neither I found any sports channel broadcasting Devis Cup in our region. I will keep coming back to the forum for more update.
Yes - it was a great win and he was very happy on this win. I am not a tennis fan but I couldn't stop watching the match. It was a great game, throughly enjoyed it. Anyone has any idea who he is playing next and when is the match? I got hold of the match because I was in different region - my local news channel do not broadcast tennis matches also.

Well last time when Djokovic didnt have Vajda he was in deep trouble and couldnt win and was injured most of the time. The problem is that Djokovic has Ivanisevic aswell and this is why Vajda probobly left because of not going much to tournament at all. I dont think its due to covid at all

Quite surprising news given the time they already work together. Having a new coach will always bring new insights and tactics but it is not always a good choice to split with long time coaches. See Radanescu, she split with her coach after the US open win and since then, she hasn't really performed. She is offcourse young and there is a lot more pressure on her also.

Well not to forget that six out of twenty Grand-Slam titles have been won with Boris Becker as his coach. What will be interesting to see is whether Djokovic might now be going through a bad phase with all The Australian Open trouble, then the early loss now at the last tournament. He might benefit from a French law regarding the French Open, but right now I wonder whether he really might dominate the tennis world for another couple of years.

Maybe he just need to win one game, one tournament, how big and small just to get back again. For sure we've seen him recovered, from injury and some controversies and still win a title.

So we will see how he will do in the next quarter of the calendar, with a new coach and fresh outlook on the game, perhaps a new version of Djokovic will come out for the better.
a player like a djokovjc can get through tough situations like these, I even think that he could come out of nowhere to win the French Open when everyone are expecting Nadal to dominate since he made a crazy comeback from the break, I hope Nole will get back to his form to make every tournament entertaining with Nadal, Medvedev...etc

He might have that chance one more time as he is going to turn 35 this year. His goal will certainly be to win most GS titles and get back to rank number 1, but nobody really knows whether he will still resist to get vaccinated. So far he said he is willing to skip tournaments and titles for the sake of having the last word about his body.

What I am interested in even more is whether we get to see Federer one more time. Maybe Wimbledon is when he wants to say good bye.
