Just amazing match witnessed with Veselý winning it after 3 tie-breakers.
He will meet Rublev in the finals of the Dubai Open tomorrow.
It was just announced so quickly there aren't any markets available yet.

Vesely continues to surprise in this tournament. I was thinking it was just a fluke but he won in an intense match against Shapovalov and he might even win this tournament. But Rublev is on a really good level currently with how he is playing it will be intresting really

Yes fantastic win by Vesely, that was a tough match for him today. I saw the 3rd
set and he looked exhausted and I have never seen anyone sweat so much.
This is a magical story for Vesely to get to this final, his after match interview
was interesting, he said he was feeling down prior to this tournament. Hopefully
we will see more of him as the year progresses.

Obviously another tough match scheduled for him in the final against Rublev,
Can he find one more win? he is certainly capable of beating Rublev if he
brings this A game again.

Medvedev with some luck going into first place. This is probobly the biggest moment in his career. Djokovic lost against Vesely and that was really shocking for everyone all over the world. Everybody was thinking he was gonna win Dubai easily. But Djokovic didnt have enough games this year and that had a big effect on him plus a bad day and thats how you lose. Hope Djokovic goes back to first place pretty soon

I don't think there's much chance of Djokovic getting the number one spot back. And Medvedev hasn't really been lucky, he's been performing to a fantastic standard and consistency, and fully deserves it. Yes Djokovic's vaccination issue has precipitated this, but arguably it was coming anyway. When Djokovic goes head to head with most players, he just swats them away as if they're nothing... but he's never been able to do that with Medvedev.

Here's their head to head record. Ignoring the first couple of matches, where Medvedev wasn't yet at his current level, they've been quite evenly matched. And I do wonder if Djokovic has some psychological scarring from the US Open final last year, where he was on the verge of history, and Medvedev just blew him away.

@Joca97 I don’t think you’re being fair to Veselý, because he beat Djokovic by playing a better game and is Djokovic rusty yes, but that’s no excuse for not giving the other player the credit he rightly deserves. @Cnut237 I don’t think he has any psychological issues which prevent him from winning against Medvedev, because Djokovic has a very tough mentality, but I do hope that they clash soon to give an entertaining match.

Well Medvedev is set to become #1 and in doing so the first since 2004
who isnt Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. That will be 18 years of a monopoly
broken which is great IMO.

Todays semi finals in Dubai:

Hurkacz 1.76 v 2.07 Rublev

Vesely 2.76 v 1.76 Shapovalov

Im not going to bet on either Hurkacz or Rublev but I am going with Vesely
to continue his slaying of high seeded players.

I wouldn't say that Medvedev has had luck to reach the nr 1 spot as he played some great tennis the last 2 years (including winning the US open 2021 vs Djokovic). Didn't saw the loss coming from Djokovic but some of us (@Trofo) expected it, so congrats on that, nice pick!

This was perfect example of bookies going by ranking. I watched Vesely in first 2 matches and yes Djoko was a favorite but odds should have been something like 1.5-2.6 and not 1.05 on Djoko. Unfortunately the odds will drop now in all other matches but I will force him till the end of tournament.

actually, as a curiosity, Vesely now has 2:0 score against Djokovic, probably best H2H with him in the world
yeah, odds were very low, bearing in mind Djokovic play in first two matches, but I did not believe that he will actually lose the match, one set was in my thoughts, maybe tie-breaks, but losing the match was too much

not sure what happens next for him, there is no news about his status for American tour
Surely, Medvedev will be world no.1 with by the end of the week. Its been a while isnt it? the last time someone being world no.1, who isnt from the Big 4. Congratulations to the unorthodox king Medvedev. I don't know how he does it, but its been effective.

That I agree 100% with. When I read for the first time quite a while ago that he is about to take the lead in the overall ATP ranking, I was puzzled because I didn't even notice how he made his way to the very top. Didn't really win a major, but so many other tournaments that were a little bit out of sight at times because everyone focuses on the Grand Slam tournaments. And boom there he was. Now again very close and this goes to show that it is not only about the majors when you are trying to climb to the very top in the rankings. It is his consistency at seemingly less important tournaments.

WTF happened with Vesely? He destroyed Ćilić yesterday which can happen but then he destroyed Bautista Agut today and that is very big surprise for me. Bautista is the guy in form at the moment. If Vesely can repeat this performance he can even take out Djoković tomorrow. My bet will go on some handicap, should be nice ones like +6.5. @buwaytress this the one for you to play Vesely 2:0 against Djoko

Vesely? ranked 123, Beats Cilic in 2 sets and Bautista Agut in 2 also, thats Tennis and
what makes it so interesting and sometimes frustrating to bet on. Well done to him
anyway but he has a serious match tomorrow, it will be a massive upset if he beats Djokovic.

He has a +5.5 handicap on sportsbet.
Money, money, money... Vesely costed me the ticket yesterday against Agut but he gave back more 20x today so I will forgive him. Hope at least some of you followed my tip on handicap, that was free money and I managed to take 6.5 handi @1.6 on local bookie. Sportsbet had good odds on Vesely to take at least a set and odds on 2:0 win were over 20 on most bookies.

Ostapenko is on fire as well....

Medvedev is first in the world from next week no matter what he does in Acapulco.

@Trofo you legend, what a call on Vesely's handicap....

unfortunately I could have pulled the trigger when I posted that he was +5.5 but didnt,
I then saw early in the first set that it had dropped to +3.5 and I thought ¡ah its not worth it now!

@teddybear look at Trofo's post above, Medvedev will go to #1.

What a match by Vesely I didnt watch it only a quick check in the first set
He has to be man of the tournament so far to knock out 3 big names and the
biggest of all today. He meets Shapovalov in the semi's now, you would have to
bet on him to win that if he can continue to do what he is doing

Yeah, it seemed inevitable, but I'm quite surprised that Djokovic ceded the number 1 spot so easily. The question I suppose is how long is Medvedev likely to remain at number 1? His big points to defend come later in the season, by which time Djokovic will likely have dropped a lot more points due to missing tournaments. It seems likely Medvedev will stay at number 1 for quite a while. And I have to say maybe Djokovic will not return there.

I just watched that on youtube, what is wring with him, he needs some anger management,
it was a doubles match and now as a defending champion he's out.
Really stupid reaction from Zverev. I can understand the need to went out the frustrations but it could have been done differently. He could have just broken his racket on turf after the match finished and then calmly said to the ref whatever je needed to say from the bench. Nothing would happen.

This was done to intimidate ref and now he is out and faces further consequences. There were also some allegations from his ex gf which now look much more likely, at least to me.

Yeah, I absolutely get the emotions. I'm probably kind of the same, but you don't take it out on someone else. I thought Kyrgios was pretty bad and no one comes close to the kind of abuse he gave (and no, I think Medvedev's outbursts in AO were more funny than scary) and he got his suspension proper. I'll be real surprised if Zverev escapes some kind of suspension too.

Didn't know about the ex-gf thing, sometimes I wish I didn't know about these things...

Damn, just saw the video of Zverev going apeshit on the umpire. Don't recall recently seeing an umpire pissing his pants heh. So out goes the defending champ. Makes me wonder how bookies settle this type of thing, I haven't actually bet on tennis and got my pick thrown out of the tournament.

Winner of the day: Peter Gojowczyk, who gets a WO.

Thats exactly what my wife said regarding the claims from his ex GF back in 2021.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/oct/04/abuse-allegations-against-alexander-zverev-under-investigation-atp

TBH he hasnt done himself any favours on a number of levels

1. he is out of the tournament
2. he could be looking at a 6 month probation or ban, similar to what Kyrgios got in 2019.
3. this outbreak definitely puts a spotlight on the above allegations.

I don't think he will get an exemption though, the Tennis Federation already knows what is the consequences already as they have seen it in Australia and I don't think the US will want to make a story out of Djokovic. So good if Medvedev can overtake Djokovic and become the number 1 player even if for brief moment. The pressure should be on Djokovic now, to get vaccinated to be able to compete. If not then it's his call.

The rules for US are quite strict and I don't think any player will get an exemption so chances that Djokovic will be able to play in US are close to 0%.

-snip

Haha, I guess we all have had the same experience. Have had it also a couple of times when betting on tennis and lost a lot of money on it, so since then I rarely bet on live matches. Except if there is really value in some bets.

There's good chance that Medvedev becomes world no.1 if he wins Acapulco. Djokovic has to win Dubai to stay close. It is uncertain if Djokovic will get a chance to play in the US swing of tournaments(Miami, Indian Wells) as he's not allowed to enter the United States while being unvaccinated. He will likely apply for exemption again and it rests in the hands of US authorities. Medvedev will have a really good shot at staying world no.1 until the year end. Its unfortunate to see that a GOAT contender tennis player isn't allowed to play because he doesn't want to inject a vaccine. Not like tennis is a contact sports and the players aren't monitored at all.

I think it's almost inevitable that Medvedev will become number 1 very soon. Djokovic is 440pts ahead, and is defending 500. And, as you say, it's highly likely that he is going to miss quite a few tournaments due to his vaccination status. But it's so close anyway that even one missed tournament now could put Medvedev ahead of him. I can't really see any way that Djokovic remains number 1, there is close to zero chance of him getting vaccinated.

Well i think that covid will end really soon. I think that every tournament that Djokovic play he will win as how he played this two matches in Dubai. I really hope that they will allow Djokovic to play im really sure that he would win them all. But if he dosent play Medvedev will for sure take the first place sooner or later
