Well Deserved win for Novak.
As a Federer fan I recognize that Djokovic was better and he fairly won Wiblendon. One more time Federer showed that he is a top player ever, and despite his age he is still competitive.

That was the longest finals I've ever seen. The two of the legends never looked tired playing for hours. A total entertainment. As thrilling as the English cricket final match with New Zealand.
But what was the counting after they reached 11 all. Shouldn't it be a 2 point difference to win the tie breaker.

I have no idea about cricket, and I do not want to start wars but no way is cricket ever as thrilling as tennis! For me, if you stop to have tea and you have overweight people playing,,, it is never going to be a sport to challenge something like tennis;)

But you are referring to the rule for Wimbledon for many years now. Tie breaker still goes but until fifth set, points like what happened yesterday, final set tiebreaker at 12:12.

There is no need to compare tennis and cricket and which sports is more thrilling than the other. Both sports are meant for different type of audience and it is your interest whether you like cricket or tennis or both.

Although Djokovic  did win but we never saw at any moment where Federer gave up. He fought right till the end and eventually a winner has to be decided after 12:12 in the 5th set and Djokovic got that last important point.

I just realized I missed the epic Wimbledon final yesterday. I almost forget that it was yesterday, I was too busy to watch the world cup final. That was another epic final happening in the same time in World Cup Cricket.
The cricket world cup was a heavily contested and very close match and one funny thing that was an instant hit was that the losing captain of New Zealand Kane Williamson and Roger Federer share the same birth date 8th of August and both were on the loosing side even though Federer won 36 games and Djokovic won just 32 games and still lost the match  Cheesy. Either way it was a epic day for sports fans to see those two great battles, i was watching both the matches in split screen and it was epic.

The cricket fan witnessed the best ever cricket battle in between New Zealand and England. It never happened before. Both team did not lose the match but when there were nothing left to find a winner then they decided to give the world cup to England because they scored more boundaries in the final.

And here after looking at the score I realized, tennis world also witnessed a historical match. After looking at the score I gone for point by point score and man(!!) both Djokovic and Federer played their match of the life! I can not believe my eyes what I was seeing. The last set games wow! then the tie break.

England as a country should be proud of hosting two epic match is two different sports in the same day.

How long they battled?

I too missed the Wimbledon final only because i was watching the Cricket world cup final yesterday. Also all the sports channel in my country were showing the cricket match as cricket is more popular sports here. Anyways i have heard this tennis match was one of the best and i will surely watch its highlights on youtube.

I'm starting to think that Novak may end up with more grand slam titles than Roger Federer.  Still can't believe Roger blew that match, that title was in his hand but he choked massively.  The dominance of Federer/Nadal/Djokvic continues with no signs of slowing down.

Epic final from two maybe biggest players in the tennis with Nadal off course but only two of these 3 can play final and this one was for books.

So many records in this final from longest match in Wimbledon's finals history to the point where Djokovic done something that didn't seen in 71 years. No player has won Wimbledon saving championship points in 71 years!
The last player to do it was Bob Falkenburg in 1948.

This match is the longest 4 hours 47 minutes something extraordinary especially for Federer who can still play well even though he finally lost.
Statistically the match Federer played better than Novak, Federer and Novak met 3 times in the Wimbledon final and Federer was unable to defeat Novak 1 though.
Of all the epic respect for both, Novak was very respectful of Federer as seen from him who did not celebrate excessively.

What an epic final that was! apart from the Australian Open final a few years ago between Nadal and Djokovic, this would have to be up there with the best finals of all time. It amazes me at how Djokovic can always come back and win in tough sets and even when he was down at losing the match he was able to fight on. Djokovic has had some epic finals in his career and most times then not he is the one left standing at the end and that is why I have said for a long time in here that he will be the one to overtake Nadal and Federer for most Grand Slam titles. Djokovic can get within one Grand Slam as he looks in top form to win the US open in a couple months and if he does he then can equal Nadal at the Australian Open at the start of next year where he has the best record of any players playing with 7 titles and Federer on 6 titles. And if he can stay fit and healthy we very may well see Djokovic equal Federer next year on 20 Grand Slam titles. Time will tell if this all plays out but right now Djokovic is the man to beat in Grand Slam tournaments.

Federer was better and had more chance to win but in key moments of the match Djokovic has always been better, mentally stronger and with less fear.
It's the same story like in last few years when Djokovic played with Federer.
BTW, fantastic match really, everybody could enjoy I think.

I agree with everything except with less fear part. Federer played totally fearless match, going for incredible shots all the time (at least in parts I watched and I saw all 3 tie breakers). Problem is that kind of aggressive play is really difficult to sustain and errors come sooner or later, he had bad luck that some of those errors happened in tie breakers. This could be in part mental but definitely not from fear. If he was "afraid" he would have gone for more secure (percentage) shots.

Well, numbers are very clear.
From 20 grand slams, Federer won 12 until 2007, until Djokovic and Nadal have become serious competitors.
From 2007 until now Federer won 8 grand slams and Djokovic 15.
I think a real turn has occurred in the US Open semifinals 2011.
Federer had a great 2-0 lead in the sets but Djokovic returned and balanced on 2-2.
In the last set Federer again had great lead 5:3 and 40:15 on his service but lost this game.
I think Federer never recovered from that defeat and began to be afraid of Djokovic.
In the next five and a half years Federer won only 1 grand slam.
So, because of this history I think that Djokovic has a much greater chance of winning today.

Federer is a great player and he is not some who is afraid of Djokovic. No one can remain champion forever and I think Federer had a great career and now his age factor wont let him win all the tournaments. Yet, you cannot compare the class of Federer with Djokovic. Federer is vastly more experienced of the two.

What a match!!! Maximum drama and lots of great tennis. Congrats to Djokovic to keeping it a bit more tight in the deciders. Who knows how it would have finished without that new rule of 5th set decider after getting to 12:12.

Feeling a bit sorry for Federer since who knows how many great tournaments he has left in his legs and he had two match balls on his own serve to finish the match in the 5th set.

100% here. I bet Fedex all the way, and each and every one of those sets was majestic, arguably just the second missing out. Epic match, I couldn't even watch the last bits, minions and dinner meants I had to leave at 8 a piece on the 5th set. 12:12 is incredible.

I keep telling myself he's got one or two more GSs in him, and every time he does win one, I keep telling myself he's still got another left in him. He's only a year younger than me too, so yeah I feel his legs.

Well the competition is going tough at the moment. The game is in the fifth set and Djokovic just seems a bit more balanced than the Federer is. My bet for more than 4 sets yielded so does my expectation of an exciting match.

Thanks for some serious insight. It's hard for anyone to achieve that Federer achieved so far.

Talking about this final?
If Federer wins than another gem will be added with his career and for the one who will break his records will have another barrier to break. Anyway, still I am not sure who to put ahead. May be I will need to wait for the first set.

I don't think that Federer was favorite against Nadal.
Nadal was very close to bring match in the fifth set and in that case I think that Nadal would turn the match to his advantage.
Federer already said after match that he is tired and I'm not sure how much he can recover until Sunday.
Djokovic is obvious favorite on Sunday but we shouldn't underestimated Federer.

It's not very easy to pick a winner when it's a match between Federer vs Djokovic or Djokovic vs Nadal or Federer vs Nadal. The one who will in best shape in the match day he will win. I hope one day off will pay off for Federer. It's hard to ignore the age factor.

In fact, we know that Nadal is always a big favorite in Roland Garros and Djokovic in Wimbledon, if he is ready 100 %, without some personal issues.
Federer long time didn't win some Grand Slam and it's obvious that his time passed.
Of course, he still have chances to win today.

How can you say that Federer didn't win for a long time? He won the title in 2017. Last year was Djokovic. Besides, Federer still holds the record here, winning eight as compare to Novak with 4.

Djokovic has some problems as well beginning early 2018 and Federer just chooses tournament he wanted to enter that is why he is still in better shape as of today. So I think Federer can a good chance to win and can pull the trigger as shown during his win against Nadal.
