Top seed Rafael Nadal will start as a strong favourite when he takes on South Africa's Kevin Anderson in Sunday's US Open final
The pair, both 31, have known each other since junior days, and Nadal has won all four previous meetings.
Who will win?

I believe congratulations is in order for Sloane Stephens who defeated fellow compatriot Madison Keys into two set 6-3 6-0 to win her first ever Grand Slam title, she was able to face and beat Venus Williams in the semis to advance into the finals. She also defeated Serena Williams en route to the Semi finals of the 2013 Australian Open.

Yes a big congrats to Sloane Stephens on winning her first Grand Slam title and what a way to do it crushing Madison Keys which I thought would of been a lot closer then how it turned out. Sloane Stephens is going to win a lot more Grand Slams as she has a lot of talent and has already proved that she can beat the top players in Women's tennis.

I'm now looking forward to the Men's final which should be an epic match. I think Nadal will win which will give him 2 Grand Slam titles for the year just like Federer. Both the veterans have had excellent years and deserve what they have achieved this year.

Congrats to Stephens for her first grand slam title I think she will shine more in future. Now people are waiting for the epic match b/w Nadal vs Anderson. 90% people are decided that Nadal will win this match including me. But suppose if Anderson wins today it will be surprising for everyone.

Quite sad to see Del Potro lose vs Nadal. He really wasn't lucky with the opponents he had to face. I think everyone will agree that the real final was played between these two. Kevin Anderson is a good player but I don't think he will be able to do anything vs Nadal.
Del Potro had to beat Federer, and had one day less to rest than Nadal. I think a two day full rest should be available when we go for semi-finals and finals. I guess this wasn't really fair for Del Potro but it's how the tournament is run.

I think its less than 48 hours before he faces the Nadal so I guess he's body wasn't able to recover from the Federer match. But I do agree that its not fair specially that players have to go a lot of matches before reaching the semis and its getting tougher and tougher as you go along. If we all know that he will be beaten by Nadal, we just wish that Federer should have won then to see Federer-Nadal once again. Oh well, its gonna be easy for Nadal to take the trophy against Kevin Anderson. I'm not saying that Kevin can't win, but knowing Nadal in this kind of tournament, its really hard to go against him and pick Anderson.
Well it's just that way it is. It is not first time that schedule is not merciful to a player. For example Djokovic lost few titles because he had difficult matches in semi-final. I like to say that he didn't loose title in finale but he lost in semi. Delpo played great but Nadal's tactic gave the result, forcing Delpo's backhand all the time he took full control of the match. Congratulations to Rafa. Big favorite for championship trophy. As I said earlier, I would like to see interesting match in finale so Kevin Anderson, give your everything tomorrow please Smiley

I am sad because Del Potro lost his match. After two very hard matches against Federer and Thiem, tired was too big for him...
I hope Del Potro will return in Top 5 very soon.
The two successive games is the main reason why he lost but nobody seem to care about that, I say that the games was rigged to ensure that Rafael Nadal will eventually win the tournament, had Roger Federer won against Del Potro in the quarterfinals, he too would not have had enough rest to face Nadal in the semi finals which is not fair at all, I hope Nadal doesn't complain when it goes against him in the near future.

I was surprised he made it this far since he was stricken by a virus which must of cost him all those lost sets when he faced nadal last night.

It was a tuggowar last night but I think the sickness finally overcame him and he was defeated in the last 3 sets of the match.

Good run though. Wink

I agree with you, Nadal will have an easy game now. I really wanted Del Potro to go to the finals, because I really like him, but Nadal was just to strong. I'm sure his win vs Del Potro had of course something to do with that extra day of recovery he had, but even if there was time for full recovery from both athletes, I think he would win anyway. He is in good shape right now, so maybe he would have a harder game, but it would still be a win I guess.
If Delpo faced Nadal before Federer then too he would have lost because Nadal forehand is just as damaging as Delpo forehand and his mentality is just the best Smiley I am pretty sure he can take down Kevin atleast in 4 sets .

At 32 in the world, Anderson is the lowest-ranked man to reach a singles final since the ranking system was introduced in 1973.
He faces a huge challenge against Nadal, who has a 4-0 record in their head-to-head.

Kevin Anderson is through to the US Open final after beating Pablo Carreno-Busta in 4 sets. It was a great battle as Anderson fought back well after losing the 1st set and winning the the last 3 sets in a row. Now we wait to see who will meet Anderson in the final, can't wait for the Nadal/Del Potro match to start and I wouldn't be surprised to see Del Potro win and cause an upset as like I have said he seems to play well at the US Open and has proved that he can still match it with the best players in tennis. This will be an epic battle.

What a great match between Federer and Del Potro, I was right about it going to 4 sets but I thought Federer would win the match. But I did say that I wouldn't be surprised to see Del Potro win the match as he does play good tennis against Federer when they play and has beaten him in the US Open final a few years ago. Not sure if he will beat Nadal as he is in top form and look set to win this US Open.
indeed. this match will be remembered for a long time. both have played very well but Del Porto especially always tries to play well against Roger Federal. especially Del has received a great support from the crowd.
normally Roger always takes this benefit wherever he plays but this time Del has taken this privilege. by the way, he is going to face another living legend in the semi final.
I don't think it's really fair for Del Potro, he finished a tough game only yesterday and he has to play another tough game today as well, meanwhile Rafael Nadal has had a full day to rest before facing, who made these schedules in the first place.

Best player of the tournament till now?

Carreno Busta ? No because he hasn't played against top 5 players .
Nadal? He struggled in the early stages of couple of matches so No.
Federer? Nope , he is out .
Del potro ? 100% yes , what a comeback this is. Amazing battle it will be between Nadal and Del potro , can't predict the winner.

Del Potro is an amazing player, and always plays with such an amazing attitude and heart, that is good to watch. Who will advance to the finals, it's really hard to say. I agree with you, Del Potro had to beat Federer, and for me, he is already the best player of this tournament this year. I like Nadal, but I hope Del Potro wins, and then gets a well deserved win in the final.

Projection Atp Ranking after Us Open:

1)Nadal     8185 if he loses in the semifinals, 8665 if he  loses in final, 9465 if he wins the tournament
2)Federer   7505
3)Murray    6790
4)A.Zverev 4470 (Best Ranking)
5)Cilic         4155 (Best Ranking)
6)Djokovic 4125 (7th place if Carreno-Busta wins the tournament)
7)Thiem      4030 (8th place if Carreno-Busta wins the tournament)
8)Wawrinka 3690 (9th place if Carreno-Busta wins the tournament)
9)Dimitrov    3575 (10th place if Carreno-Busta wins the tournament)

-Carreno Busta(Best Ranking):
if he wins the tournaments 4135 (7h place)
if he loses in final 3335 (10th place),
if he loses in semifinals 2855 (10th place if Anderson or  Del Potro do not win  the tournament, otherwise 11th)

Unbelivable that young Zverev made it to the 4th place!
The problem is that he is yet too young and unexperienced in the Grand Slams. In 2-3 years he will dominate the atp tour.

Yes he is the surprising player we see in top 4 lists. But he is playing well in all series, and he keeps on increasing playing skills. I think the coming year he will give tough competition to all top players. And come to the event If today Nadal wins this game he will have more chance to win this tournament.
Yeah  Zverev is surprisingly one of the young guns in tennis, even of his age he made it in the 4th place in the world ranking, in the next few years he is one to look up to. he experience will make him to win many grandslam of his carrier.
