So its the US Open next week and there doesnt seem to be any top players in action this week
and the only tournament I can see in operation is Winston Salem which is an ATP250 event.

From what I can make out the best known players I can aee still in it are:

Nakashima v Gasquet - currently playing
Korda has beaten Fucsovics and is into the quarter finals
Cerundolo plays Kumar later
Lehecka plays Koepfer later
Coric plays Mmoh later

I think it will only start getting interesting at the quarter finals.

By the way it's sounds like an "unicum" or an actiity never adopted in other leagues or sports. I am pretty curious to see if it works and if will not change player habits Roll Eyes in a certain way

It is definitely a topic for discussion with pro and contra. From what I have read, the payment of the basic income is supposed to depend on other factors as well. It also depends on the earned money through prize money in the career and how many tournaments were played.

The playersbassociation ATP wants to introduce a basic income next year. This is for the top 250. There will be 3 levels. Top 100: US$ 300,000. Top 101 to 175: US$ 150,000. Top 176 to 250: 75,000 US$. If a player has earned more money through prize money, he will not receive this basic income. Injured players also receive the basic income.
The programme is called "Baseline" and will initially last 3 years.

sounds to me like an "insurance" or a subside. if you can't earn enough you will get a revenue, unless you're on a specific rank. there are several video and discussion regarding this issue like the FT video below

I was just watching the points as I wasn't able to stream the match. It was really interesting to watch the points coming between the two players. Particularly the break points, one leads and all the sudden the other levels the point. Last two sets went in such a way. I wasn't able to see how those two were mentally. Djokovic could've kept himself with better mental strength, if not he couldn't have won the match. These days the matches between these two were of much expectation after the Wimbledon Final.
It's quite exciting to see how two players with such a big age difference can compete at the same level of play, I doubt any other veteran player can give the young Spaniard a tough fight, as even players much younger than Djokovic often can't do what Djokovic does against Alcaraz.
Alcaraz's presence will end the era of the big three which currently leaves only Djokovic in contention after Federer's retirement and Nadal who is yet to return due to injury.
It would be even more interesting if Nadal could return to play and where the two Spaniards play against each other, but unfortunately there is no certainty when Nadal will return to the field to play.

That final was very very close, the last two sets went both to tie breaks, looking at the
stats below shows how close it was + & - for both players in different aspects of their games.
I wouldnt say Djokovic was overwhelmingly better than Alcaraz.

No, I would not say that either and that is not what I meant. Djokovic had a bit more power in the end and all the mental strength to want to win this match. Otherwise they would have played longer. I am definitely looking forward to the next matches when they play against each other.

This game meant more to Djokovic than we would think. Alcaraz said himself during the tournament that he is the end boss that Djokovic has to beat if he wants to win in Cincinnatti. With Wimbledon ending in favor of Alcaraz and the media talking about Alcaraz possibly ending Djokovic's dominance, this was the perfect final and the perfect response that Djokovic could give to all the critiques.

Being one set down and then under those conditions turn the game around with two tiebreaks, demonstrating his enormous mental strength an stamina, was important for Djokovic. He showed that this duel between him and Alcaraz is anything but yet decided. It is great for the tennis audience and even though I like Alcaraz a lot, I was hoping for Djokovic to win in order to keep the rivalry at a maximum. A great final game with a great ending.

That was a great performance from Djokovic. He was mentally and physically better in this match. That was a testament to his experience. Alcaraz lacks that, but he is also on the right path. But it will still take a long time. The final was worth to watch it and one can only hope that the next matches between the two will also still exciting.

I wouldn't say he lacks that because he has beaten Djokovic in Wimbledon. But I think the little difference at this point maybe that Djokovic isn't giving a fuck about any tournament he plays. In Cincinnati he clearly wanted to show that this wasn't it, that he is still there and that being the best in the world means to not beat him only once, but to beat him permanently. And this was proof that Djokovic is still the one that Alcaraz has to beat no matter what happened in Wimbledon. An amazing game on the highest level and not surprising that Djokovic got the victory. Like him or hate him, but he is a beast. Very exciting to watch him play tennis.

I only partially agree with you bct_ail, alcaraz has a way to go yet to match or surpass
Djokovic but its only vary small.

Betting on games won and / or sets won was definitely the way to go for that final

It was a huge day for Djokovic as he was able to record his win against Alcaraz to win the Cincinnati Masters title. This being the maiden Cincinnati Masters final for Alcaraz I expected this to be a win for him. The first set win made the match to be much in favour of Alcaraz, however Djokovic with his positive mind and hard fighting gave the comeback and won the last two sets on the tie breaker to win the match.

Wow, I left the final after the first set and Alcaraz winning that. Djokovic in the first set seemed
to struggle with the heat and seemed to be really agitated, I thought that it was going to be Alcaraz
as the winner.

Djokovic' service game in the first set was terrible and it looks to be similar in the following two
sets but his second serve was strong with 70% of points won that second serve.

Well done to Novak - he was favourite for that win before the match and is now back to #1

Djokovic is still the favorite in the final match against Alcaraz even though Djokovic is no longer young unlike Alcaraz but he is still able to keep up with Alcaraz's game to come out as champion.
In the first set, Alcaraz had dominated the game but when the 2nd set started until the 3rd set, Djokovic became more enthusiastic and was able to suppress Alcaraz's game to gain the advantage.

Now we all know that Djokovic has indeed become a world record and remains a tennis player with a history of millions of achievements.
Congratulations to Djokovic for winning to become number 1 for the umpteenth time.

It can be seen that everyone who watched this match was happy because they could see the high-level play of the two players, it is rare for a final between the first and second seeds to occur, and what is more extraordinary is that both of them played equally well, unfortunately, I missed the first and second sets, and while watching the third set heard how the commentator said that Alcaraz had a championship point but Djokovic managed to save it so the match had to continue to the third set.
The third set wasn't going to be easy for either of them, Djokovic almost won the match without going through a tie break but Alcaraz didn't let that happen easily for Djokovic, it's normal to see this veteran player do better when they lost the previous tournament and this was his 39th ATP Masters title, he passed Nadal's stats at the ATP Masters.
There's a week's worth of rest for all the top players to return to play in the final Grand Slam of the season at the US Open. Carlos Alcaraz will try to defend his title here, is it possible that an ideal final will be created again?

With Đoković placed as the heavy favorite today, I'm actually quite tempted to put my money on Alcaraz @2.40 odds.

Đoković's form has been superior - he hasn't lost a set whereas Alcaraz lost one in every single round of the tournament. Still - when such players play it's more a 50-50 game than what the bookies are telling us this time.
They still haven't played against each other on hard - and their only matchup on faster surfaces was Alcaraz's Wimbledon final win.
Djokovic form is superior, which is out of the experience. In simple age of Alcaraz is the experience of Djokovic. The match have started and consecutive points have come for both the players. The match is going to be tough and we can't be sure of the outcome of the match. Alcaraz have got good winning odds, and there are more chances for Alcaraz to win the match. This is based my personal understanding about his performance and how he's carrying him forward.

In the women's tournament Gauff have won the title defeating Muchova in direct sets 6-3 6-4.
The match is going much close and both are with the never giveup mentality, because Djokovic got the first break point and leads the first set 4-2. Soon after that Alcaraz got a break as Djokovic lost the serve and the points got levelled. This is going to be another Wimbledon Final, because same as the Wimbledon final match the points are coming. Possibly the first set result will be on the deciding set.

The match has ended. Novak Djokovic was able to win this match. The first set was taken by Alcaraz. But Novak Djokovic made a good comeback. And it was a really close match between these two. The second and the third set were really close. Novak Djokovic had to fight really hard to be able to win those sets. And this was all due to the experience that Novak Djokovic has. He was able to keep calm under pressure. It is great to see even in this age, Novak Djokovic is actually unfamiliar at the top level of competition, and even beating the players at the top of the game.

Will this be a rivalry match as Djokovic have lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon match after hard fight. This is the next encounter between the two. Djokovic have won the semifinal match against Zverev in direct sets, but those were really tough as the sets were close 77-65 7-5. Once again waiting for a match between the top two seeds. This is the maiden Cincinnati Masters final for Alcaraz and he had been among the four players to reach 45 or more Masters win before turning 21. Earlier in the list were Nadal, Djokovic and Roddick.

This is a perfect match up for the final, I'm sure the organisers are ecstatic to
have their two top seeded mens players 1 and 2 play each other in the final! I'm feeling
that this is going to be a regular finals match up for the next year or so.

Alcaraz yesterday had a tough match against Hurkacz, particularly the second set.

Djokovic got past Zverev in 2 sets, he is looking in great form.

What about todays final? I'm going with Alcaraz the underdog @ 2.40
Thats a great start for Alcaraz to win the first set 7-5. The underdog @2.40 had shifted to Djokovic @3.50 which is based on the less chances of his comeback. The first set have lasted for an hour, now itself both the players might've got tired. Stamina plays an important role, and this time it looks like direct set win for Alcaraz based on earlier performance of Djokovic in the ongoing masters. Djokovic haven't lost any of the sets in this masters and the first loss had taken place.
