Yea that was the funny part, Tsitsipas waving at the fake bee. I think the whole thing was
very bizzare and I think that lady should have been removed, its just not on, cant believe
sho owned up to it and apologised and that was the end of it.

Anyway play has been suspended between Alcaraz and Paul, Its 1 set each and its been
a really entertaining high quality match so far, I wouldnt be able to pick a winner, Alcaraz is
big favourite @ 1.1 and Pail is 8.0.

Short match between Davidovich Fokina and Djokovic. Davidovich Fokina had to retire at the beginning of the second set because of back pain. Rune also had to retire from his match against McDonald because of an injury.
I am surprised about Tiafoe. His first match and lost right away. Just like in Toronto.

Did anyone see the match from match Tsitsipas and Shelton? A spectator actually tried to irritate Tsitsipas by imitating a bee.  Roll Eyes
https://twitter.com/TennisTV/status/1691922577416176003

It's hilarious! I've never seen anything like that during any tennis match at ANY LEVEL!  Shocked

Why would one want to imitate a bee anyway? I guess she just said sorry and the match went on? And Tsitsipas wanted her to leave?  Grin

Oh man thank you for sharing this. But there is one thing I don't understand: when Tsitsipas is waving his racket as if there was a bee in the beginning of the sequence, did he still think that there is a bee?  Grin Grin

But I would embarrassed as hell if I was the woman. There really isn't much that could be any more ridiculous than that. What the hell did she think to achieve with that? She imitates a bee and the he fails with his serve and she enjoys the failed serve? Oh god I thought they are going to identify a young boy around 15-20 who is still in puberty. But it was the old lady!  Cool Tsitsipas: "This has never happened to me in my career"

But still, did he try to scare away "the bee" waiving his racket?

Today Sinner is in action also against Lajovic, that shouldnt be an upset, I think
Sinner is too cool and would gave put his win at Canada behind him and will be focussing
on the present.
...

Sinner yesterday was clearly tired on second set with some physical problems.
He was walking with difficult and has spent 20 minutes to win 1 point!
Not bad at all. I like his tennis, that's why I have placed a bet against him with a decent odd @3.5 (Lajovic to win second set)... Grin a bit risky but rewarding.

A lot of players are retiring due to some injuries. Expected Djokovic to struggle with Fokina but the injury made it easier for Djokovic and he now has a lot of time to rest up for his next match. McDonald had a big lead so i doubt that Rune would have been able to turn it around. But still after the last masters in Toronto and everyone came here too many players are either tired or injured.

Davidovich Fokina won as expected and will now play against Djokovic.

Zverev won quite easily against Dimitrov, but it is not guaranteed that he will win his second match. He has played seven times in Cincinnati so far and has only made it further than the second round once since then (2021). But he got to the final and won it. It will depend on his form of the day as we have recently seen several times.

Yes a few surprise results there with Rublev and Felix AA, I didnt have any bets on those
matches because with those matchups I would have backed the losers!

and after beating Evans yesterday Musetti gets a R16 Canada Open replay against
Medvedev, I dont think I will bet against Medvedev.

Zverev v Dimitrov
Zverev won that match quite easily in straight sets.
Rublev lost again in the early stages of a major tournament in 3 sets against Ruusuvori and also Felix Auger Aliassime losing quite easily to Mannarino was a surprise in today's fixtures.
Alcaraz faced quite strong resistance from his opponent Thompson and in the third set he managed to excel by breaking his opponent's early game, I think he will win this match to advance to the next round.
Djokovic will start his match tomorrow against Fokina, it's rare to see Djokovic knocked out in the early rounds and after a long rest I think he will handle this opponent well.

Yes Fritz did the business after a long tie break 16-14! and for my second bet Humbert
beat Fils, not bad!

An interesting one with an Italian interest starting soon is Evans v Musetti. Evans is not
favourite here which is about right, after winning the Citi Open he crashed out of Canada
I think in the first round. He is 2.15, does he have the form to beat Musetti, I'm not sure.

So far I havent seen any upsets, Wawrinka and Paul have gone to the next round
but still later today some interesting matches....
Zverev v Dimitrov
de Minaur v Wolf - can de Minaur carry his form too into this match, we have seen before
where players can find ot hard to transition from a final to starting a new tournament, he is
favourite though @ 1.57 - I'm tempted...

Dissapointing result from Berrettini yesterday to get beaten by Felix AA in 3 sets, in fairness
I dont think I would have bet on him anyway but still dissapointing.
...

During the first set there was the "classic hammer" as we know from the past matches Berrettini.
FAA was not playing really good... but on second and third set the tale is over and FAA was able to win without suffering too much.

Meanwhile live from Cincinnati, it seems already ended the match between Fritz and Lehecka.
The USA player has won the first set (tie break) and now he is leading 3-1 the second set....odd collapsed to 1.02 (Fritz winner of the match Roll Eyes )

TBH I wouldnt be confident about betting on Davidovic Fokina, he is unpredictable, if
he starts getting down on himself or starts doubting himself he finds it hard to drag
himself out of it. He's probably good for a set allright.

The first set went deservedly to Berrettini. Felix AA turned the play around in the second set with his early break. He finally won the first round again after losing 4 times in a row in the first round.

Davidovic Fokina is always good for surprises. But he will not have a chance against Djokovic. For Djokovic it is the first tournament since the US Open 2021 in New York. So all eyes will be on him.

Today Humbert goes again against Fils, I backing Humbert based on his current good
form, he's a good price @ 1.85.

Paul also plays Kecmanovic and I think is good value @ 1.47

That match serms to have been a bit of a battle, there was a 46 shot rally which Sinner won,
it can be viewed on this link to twitter

Thank you for the link.  It looks like it was played faster in the video. But they really did play that fast.

-----------

Davidovich Fokina caused a few surprises in Toronto. In Cincinnati he will play against Etcheverry in his first round. That is a doable task for him. But after that he already will play against Djokovic. I do not think he could surprise us again.

Wow, I didnt wait up to see the second set but the result of  6-0 is shocking in a final.

In terms of the way the semi final and the final was played on the same day with a
few hours in between, it happens a bit and is the luck of the draw with some matches
getting delayed but it doesnt make for a fair contest really.

Should the semi final gave been played earlier in the day to give the winner more
rest time before the final?

or should the final be played later?

With such strict timelines I think that its really hard plan matches to accomodate all players events.
I don't think they have interest improving this aspect...
For sure Sinner has an advantage by playing one match less than De Minaur.

Well, the difference between the two players Is well defined (5-0 direct matches), but a better form for Sinner Is a great advantage.

Yeah Samsonova looked kinda tired in the final. I guess this is mostly about the commercial side of the tournament. The tickets have been sold and Sunday is a perfect day for a final match. So, normally the organizers would try not to postpone the final match until Monday although AFAIK it's possible.

Jannik Sinner had done it with style. This is a much expected one from Sinner. Young players were dominating Tennis and this time it is Jannik Sinner. The win against Alcaraz itself confirmed the title for him.

After the seeded players were knocked out in a shock like ALcaraz's loss to T. Paul, then relatively Sinner was the most favored for the champion, Alex de Minaur was a good player but Sinner got quite easy in this tournament after Murray withdrew due to injury, so there is not much energy to be had Sinner took out to lift the trophy at this major tournament, and other major tournaments will again test Sinner but this time of course the results could be different, and Djokovic is certain to play at the Cincinnati ATP, with Alcaraz and Medvedev who will return to try to do better this time

Finally Pegula have won the title winning the match 6-1, 6-0 against Samsonova. Throughout Pegula had played well and in the semifinals it was really tough fight against Swiatek to confirm her position to the finals. Often she used to reach till Semifinals and now moved to finals which is great transition from her.
Jessica Pegula has quite an advantage because she has a longer rest period than her opponent, who only had a few hours of rest after the semi-finals and had to play 3 sets to beat Rybakina.
Jessica Pegula is a good player but she loses a lot when she has to compete with Swaitek, Sabalenka and also Rybakina and this her second major tournament title.

Sinner today seems the "natural" winner of the match against De Minaur. Just because he has won all 4 previous matches against the Australian player, plus he has one match less during this tournament... For sure an interesting final. The odd of 1.40 Is not really big but not bad at all for this kind of match.

Well there we go - Jannik did the business in a very strong fashion 6-4 and 6-1. Thats his
first Masters title and no doubt will not be the last. He is definitely transitioning forward
and will get better.

Pegula is storming ahead, she has the first set 6-1

Samsonova though has already come from the first set down today in the semi final to
win her way to the final now, her odds are 9.5 now....
