If we honestly look at Ashwin's red ball career then he's a champion bowler in subcontinent but average in SENA countries.
-Edited-

In India, Ashwin got 234 wickets with an average of 22.69, in away matches, he got 108 wickets with an average of 31.40, he was successful in both home and away.

This is his Test career records. looks pretty good at first look. But everything is hiding in details.

Ashwin's supporters (I am one of them but only for Subcontinent games) always come up with the same argument that his away average is around 30 with 100+ wickets under his belt. But they still miss out the fact that in away matches' stats Srilanka, Bangladesh, West Indies tours are also included. Subcontinent countries are heaven for every competent spinner, and Windies pitch are spinner friendly as well. He alone picked 60 wickets in 10 matches out of 108 wickets in these countries but his records in SENA countries tells the different story and TBH its not a good one.

Ashwin's Record in SENA countries ( South Aftrica, England, New Zealand, Australia)

  • In Australia 4 Test Match Series
    • 2011-12 : 9 wickets in 3 match - Best performance 3/81- over all average 62 with strike rate 112
    • 2014-15 : 12 wickets in 3 match- best performance 4/105- average 48 strike rate 85
    • 2017-18 : 6 wicket in one match then injured - Dropped

  • In South Africa 3 Test Match Series
    • 2013-14 : 0 wicket in one match, Dropped
    • 2017-18 : 7 wickets in 2 match - best performance 4/113- series average 30 with 65 SR. Dropped

  • In England 5 Test Match Series
    • 2014 : 3 wickets in 2 match - best performance 3/72 - series average 33 with 71 SR
    • 2018 : 11 wicket in 4 match - 4/62 -  series average 32 average with 76 SR

  • In NewZealand 2 Test Match Series
    • 2013-14 : Dropped

He won many series for India single-handedly in the subcontinent but not a single game in SENA countries, as far as I remember he contributed in only 1-2 games where India did well. And if go deep into more details, then everyone will doubt his capabilities as a spinner. That's the main reason Kuldeep and Chahal are given priorities over him in the last 2 years.

Having said that. With all this, I didn't mean to say that Ashwin is terrible bowler, I repeat that he's a champion bowler in Subcontinent but average bowler in SENA countries. He's still India's No 1 bowler when it comes to Red ball cricket in subcontinent.

This match now belongs to Australia and shoudl be an easy win unless rains comes into picture and hold the game.
It's not that Australia is doing great. They already lost their 4th wicket in the 2nd innings however the lead is now 236 so far. If they can add 150ish more runs then it's going to be very difficult for England to win this test. The way they batted in the first innings this current lead seems enough for Australia to book England and win the Test. But of course, Australia does not want to take risks.

Good damn it!
My tip is going to be a waste LOL

In the other match, I was expecting better batting from India.
Even Indian batting was not good but bowling is still on target and they got four early wickets with Bumrah take crucial wicket of Bravo now West Indies is on back foot but still fight is going on most chances India can take lead between 50 to 80 runs which could be good for them as home team is going to bat again in fourth inning.

Missed the golden match: Aus vs Eng

Was already sad for Aus losing all their wickets for 179 and then Eng got just 67 lol

Again 133 for 4 so looks like they'll make about 200 runs if Labuschagne does perform else without Smith, this match looks horrible for both teams.

I am glad that India is playing well and as I predicted, Jadeja performed so well for the team. Never to underestimate Sir Jadeja Tongue

Does nobody want to put a decent innings in?
England are embarrassing, every time they bowl well they follow it up with an even more pathetic batting performance of their own.

Who would have though England will be all out at 67. That's impossible to believe. I was not watching the match live but when I saw the score I could not believe my eyes.  We are in the 2nd day of this test and Australia can easily make 2-0 in the ashes.

Unexpected this is the same thing they did in first test match where they had a good oppruntiy to utilize the  good bowling but just batsman could not deliver it and same thing happened here as well and now OZ came back strongly and are batting at 110/4 with a lead of  221 runs. This match now belongs to Australia and shoudl be an easy win unless rains comes into picture and hold the game.

Hmmm... another batting collapse now. This time from Australia. They are now struggling at 52/3. If this is the sign of things to come, then I think the match will be over before tomorrow's lunch. Khawaja failed once more and now it is up to Travis Head and Labuschangne to build the innings. I don't expect the Australians to score more than 150.  Grin

Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head have steady the ship for the Aussies and now they are 92/3. The total lead is 200 now and if they can give the target of 350, it will not be easy for England to chase this score. I also think this test match will end by the end of 3rd day. We may not see full 5 days of cricket.

England had their best chance to win a Test match in this series but their betting line up is showing the worse commitment LOL
England does have a great limited over team and hence they were able to win the World Cup and that too with a bit of luck on their side, earlier they did have great Test players and their limited over side was almost the same and hence they were not world beaters during those times, to perform well in Test cricket you need to have a good defense and none of the English batsman proved their defensive technique till now, they are aggressive in their approach which only helps in the limited format and not in the real Test Wink.

Warner failed again!
0 run from 2 balls.

Australia lost their first wicket very early but seems like Harris and Khawaja is trying to recover. They already have 147 runs lead though. Both Australia and England has plenty of times in this test. Australia needs to score at least 300+ runs to be safe and England needs to show patience in the chase if they want to win. In the fourth innings the pitch will not be easy to play for the batsmen.

I don't think that this is a silly reason. Indecent exposure is a criminal offense in India (Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code) and the perpetrator can be jailed for up to 3 months.
The rules usually apply to common people only and celebrities usually get a pass. Also, I don't really see what is the big deal in accident exposure. No need to over-complicate simple things people.

EDIT: 67 runs and booked LOL

What in the world? This is absolute insanity. I still cannot believe my eyes. This is why it is never smart to underestimate teams like Australia or England. They are playing really well even without Smith which shows their caliber.

EDIT:
Who is going to rescue England? 54/6 LOL Lunch break.

None Tongue 66/9 now
Cummins & Hazelwood have pierced through the ENG players. I think AUS is going to enforce a follow-on.

LOL.. follow on? How that is possible? To force follow on, you need a lead of 200 plus. The latest update is that England have been bowled out of 67, with Hazlewood taking 5 wickets. Australia currently leads by 112 runs and they will be looking to build their lead to 300 plus. Complete humiliation for England in front of the home crowd.  Grin

RIP Australia. I missed the whole day yesterday but once I checked the score after the day I was like, well it is expected. All out for 179 runs!
You can watch the entire match like highlights and i expected England to fight and take a lead here, but i was wrong as they already lost 8 wickets for just 56 runs, they will be lucky if they get to 100 runs with just 2 wickets remaining and i would like to see the Australian fast bowlers peppering Archer with short balls Cheesy . Australia is going to win the test even without Smith in the team and the series with ease.
What a come back by Australia its one of best bowling from them and now I can say this Ashes series belong to them bowlers done extra ordinary stuff and now they are in complete command 66/9 mean now they are taking lead by more then 100 runs and this is very good stuff for them and big below for England.

WTF just happened? I just reached home from office and I am seeing a scoreboard of 56/8 for the England innings. Just when I thought that England had this match under their complete control, something like this happens. Archer and Broad are batting... and Hazlewood seems to be on fire. Anyway I am glad. I had developed a deep aversion to England due to the dramatics during the final of the CWC 2019. Just want to say one thing: "Karma is a bitch".

I saw this picture earlier, but did not realize that he wore transparent underwear. Its funny how people think that he will get banned for such a comical reason. Bumrah is one of the world's best bowlers currently and he won't get banned for such silly reasons.

I don't think that this is a silly reason. Indecent exposure is a criminal offense in India (Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code) and the perpetrator can be jailed for up to 3 months.

PS : RIP
RIP Australia. I missed the whole day yesterday but once I checked the score after the day I was like, well it is expected. All out for 179 runs!

Anyway, England seems not responding well too. They lost 4 wickets to collect 38 runs so far. I am expecting anyone from England will build a partnership. England should win this test. Without Smith, the Australian team is broken. Good news that Warner got few runs in the first innings.

Do you guys remember my picks:
England to win or draw
India to win or draw
New Zealand to win or draw.

I should have risked some money in this multibet but I am under an oath :-(
