Yup, it seems like we just got another twist in the match after Bairstow's wicket! If Aussies can somehow manage just two more wickets at this stage (of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler), they'll gain back the control of the match.

Next 2 hours are critical.

Very quickly they are 6 down but still it looks English are in control. And in my calculation they will still be in control as long as Stokes is there. Can he save England again?

Edit: Oh my! 7th down but English can still breath. Stokes is there.
Finally Hazlewood is striking again.

Butler just gone, run out. As of now, they need 106 more runs to win. Australia is now back in the match. If they can took Stoke earlier, it will be easier win for them. What a dramatic match.
Who could believe England getting all out for 67 could dream for a chase of 358?

With Stokes on the crease, hope is still alive for England but still they have lost 5 wickets and need another 106 runs to chase down.

Edit: Lost their 6th wicket so again they are under pressure. With 4 wickets, it won't be possible for Stokes to manage the runs on his own.

I owe you some merit now. Out of it currently LOL

Debt paid. Sent him 2 merits (including 1 from me). Jsraw is good at pulling out facts.

It's a easy win for England now considering 1day they still have in their pocket plus lead is only a little over 100. But still there are only 2 regular batsman on crease and left are bowlers so still can happen anything.

There's only 4 successful chase of 300+ scores in Ashes history.

In 1948, 404, chased by Australia.
In 1928/29, 332 chased by England.
In 1902/02, 315 chased by Australia.
In 2001, 315 chased by England.

If England chase this time, it will be 2nd highest chase in Ashes history, highest for England. Guess what, in our era, it happened only 1 time which I didn't watch even. Another history we will be witnessed.

Back to the topic, I think it's game over. England is winning this match without any doubt. They only needs 118 runs and they have 6 more wickets in hand. Stokes and Bairstow are full set. Australia will now regret that they should add more runs in their 2nd innings.

By the way, I am curious if anyone placed any bet on my tip?

Edit: Bairstow out LOL! Any twist is waiting for us?

Anyway, now things are looking in favor of England and if they do manage a win then English supporters will remember it for long time also I will have a successful 3 fold tip (if India or NZ does not slip of course) :-D

No doubt about that and they have every reason to remember this game for ages, they never chased down the target this big successfully in the 4th inning in their Cricket history.

Plus, There are only 3 successful chase of more than 300 runs in  Headingley,Leeds's history. highest run chase in Leeds belongs to Austraila and Bradman scored 173 in that match, he was unbeaten in the end.

Highest run chase in Leeds

  • 1948 Australia Won against England 404/3
  • 2017 West Indies Won Against England 322/5
  • 2001 Australia Won Against England 315/4

This time England is Chasing against Australia. target 359 runs and they are at 238/4, need only 121 runs, let's see if they can make history here.

Guess they already took new ball.
New ball was taken from 80.3 overs. It was in a middle of the over LOL.

Huge cheer from the crowd as soon as England batsmen heading towards the pavilion on the lunch break. England lost only 1 wicket in this session and now have a real chance in this match.
I do feel taking the new ball was not a right decision by the Aussies.

England to win or draw
I am worried about England though. This match is looking very unpredictable.
This one is tricky. English batsmen are fighting back, and I think they are going to make it to another end. 130 Runs more doesn't not impossible task from here. Aussie needs only 2 quick wickets to turn things around. Not sure if they took a new ball or not?

Guess they already took new ball.

Looks like I might be losing my 3 fold accumulator tip after all thanks to continuous rainfall.
What was you picks in the 3 fold? I remember you gone for straight wins?
Mine was:

Nz to win or draw
India to win or draw

- England vs NZ will end in a draw

Its England vs AUS  and not between England VS NewZealand  Smiley

After Lyon got Root out it looks like Stokes and Bairstow are trying to play for a draw which is crazy considering there is still another day to go. They should play their shots and go for the win as England are in striking distance. If Australia get Stokes with the new ball then it will be over for England and Australia will retain the Ashes. Its going to be an interesting hour before lunch.

This match cannot be ended in draw until rain spoil the game. No matter how slow England play, they will win if they bat out the two days.
England 200 Up and physiologically they will be feeling better.

- India is about to decimate West Indies most probably thanks to Rahane and Kohli

- England vs NZ will end in a draw

- I am still rooting for England to win against Australia somehow through Stokes etc.

A great relief for Australia. Lyon may took the most important wicket of this match. Now the odds for Australia to win is more. England were nearly turning the match in their way. Thank God!

The next danger man I think could be Stokes. He is not playing strokes, just staying in the pitch. Australia needs his wicket now.

It does not matter whether he gets ban (or whatever) by it or not, the point in the first place why publish a picture which can create a lot of doubt.
Even it was effect of light, that's not a good picture to publish on net. This just shows the mentality of him.
Lol. What? He never did it on purpose and everyone already forgot about this stupid thing. Bumrah also set a new record(Test match wicket record). Stop trying to defame the best Indian bowler currently for silly reasons.

So at least you also agree that he did a stupid thing purposely or non-purposely.  Cheesy
I am not trying to defame the best Indian bowler. He is making things bad for himself.  Cheesy

I don't think England would manage to make 203 runs as once this partnership is broken, they again need a big partnership of 100+ runs to chase the remaining runs down. Bairstow and Buttler also are good batsmen but unable to build big partnerships on their own. They also are playing too slowly with a RR of only 2.2. Everything will be clear today.

Day 4 is going to be an interesting day as England are in with a shot of winning the match if Ben Stokes can stick with Root. Hazlewood will be the key to Australia winning as the pitch doesn't look like its doing much now but Hazlewood seems to get the ball in the right places to take wickets. We should see a result on day 4 as I can't see it going into day 5 and if England get the win it would be a huge momentum swing in England's favour for the rest of the series.
If England actually manage to do this, I would genuinely be surprised since I placed a bet on them and it would be a favorable result for me, but I am cautiously optimistic. If Root scores 100+ runs, England have a real shot here.

Yes, we have an exciting last day cricket left in this test match. At one point England was 15/2 and i thought Aussie will surely win this one too but then England recovered well. 203 runs still required to be made and its anybody game from here on in.

I would say that a slight advantage is with Australia. Their pacers have been spewing fire throughout the series and none of the English batsmen have been able to adjust with their pace and bounce. If Australia wins this match, then they'll be up 2-0 and it will be a big blow for England. But the big issue for Australia is that right now only two of their bowlers are in form.

I would have thought that England had the upper hand. But the third wicket changed everything and now both the teams are even. Joe Denly fell to Hazlewood just before the close of the 3rd day's play, and that changed everything. England was on its way to a famous win until that moment, but that one wicket changed all the equations.

Close to 200 overs remain now, but I guess we'll get a result before the end of the second session's play on the 4th day. I am still repeating this one more time: the absence of Mitchell Starc is going to hurt the Aussies badly and it was a really stupid decision to leave him. As far as I can see, James Pattinson is not doing a good job, either with the bat or with the ball.
