Jack leach looking good at 40runs, didn't expected this kind of inning from no 10 batsman who came to bat as a watchman.

I would say it's solid start from English side.

After losing their first wicket at 26 runs, seems like Leach is trying to put pressure on the bowlers. I hope it works well and he does not lose his wicket. So far he is looking good.

They are hitting 4s back-to-back and they are making it look more like an ODI or may be they are desperate for winning this game to prove they are real champions now. At this stage, a total of 450+ is an easy target as I don't feel Ireland will be able to chase 300+ runs. Yesterday, except for one batsman who scored 50, the others lost their wickets easily.
I am not expecting them to chase 300+ runs. If England can put 150+ runs lead then I think game on for both team.

Things are looking good for England today and nothing interesting till now except that one wicket lol

Damn. Not surprising at all though. Morgan himself is an Irish citizen and he is the first captain to have successfully led England to World Cup glory. Its pretty smart of England to recruit such talented individuals and unite them under a single nation.
Guys England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland are like some major cities in a country LOL

You do not need visa and passport to go from one state to another. It's like the stats in USA. I think there needs to be only one team. Team Britain.

Anyway back to the match, England has a careful start in their 2nd innings. They are still 101 runs behind but they still have 10 wickets left. I think if England can score can give a 150+ runs lead to chase for Ireland then game on. I do not think Ireland will be able to score more than 150 runs in the 4th innings. It's always hard to bat in 4th innings.

It seems that Strauss wanted him to play for England

Fun Fact : out of 11 players, 9 Irish player are British born.

I remember reading this some where, can't find the source though.

if this match gets a result, that will be on the Irish side I think. I wish they get their maiden test win.

I want same for them but anything could happen who knows if England face another collapse or Good partnership.

But i think English top middle order will fight back today, expecting good knock from Joe root, not century though.

For this to happen, they need to knock down a couple of wicket with the new ball in the first session, if English openers survive the first hour, which I know one of them will not for long because Jack Leach is Night-watchman. England would not mind 1 wicket down after 1st session. If this happens, then the situation could be dicey for the Irish Team.

Unless another magical bowling spell waiting for English team around the corner, who knows? Tongue

One wicket after 1 wicket will be great for English as Jack Leach is a bowler only. But I think that will not be easy for English. Ireland, especially the allrounder Murtagh will hit again. However, if this match gets a result, that will be on the Irish side I think. I wish they get their maiden test win.

Ireland did well under the circumstances 207 is not a bad score, considering that England now need to score 122 runs first and then set a target for Ireland. Murtagh has impressed everyone with his bowling, and England’s batsmen had no clue on how to deal with him. If he continues getting wickets England will be in trouble, and Ireland will be able to defeat England in their own home ground.
Just read an article related to Murtagh and am impressed with the way he can swing the ball like famous bowlers. Never knew him before, but I will definitely remember him now.

It seems that Strauss wanted him to play for England, but he ended up choosing the Ireland side and we can see the results now. This guy has tremendous potential. Ireland continues to amaze though they lack consistency.

@erikalui  You mixing up ODI and Test Match?  Roll Eyes

It's just a first day and Ireland playing his first inning in this test. We have second inning as well for England and Ireland, so the match is not going to finish today if Ireland reach the 85 runs target Tongue

Oh yeah, I forgot about second innings too. So after they get 85, they'll continue to play till they all get out. Then England bat to chase the runs (if any) and/or put runs on the board and Ireland again chase. Am I right? Last I saw a test match was in 2014 where England were playing with a score of 500+ against India I guess. :-P

That's fine, at first i thought you were joking or trolling Tongue but its not the case here i suppose.

Yes, Correct Smiley

3rd innings started in day 1? That's interesting. I really like test which get completed earlier. Ireland has good chance to win the match.

207 for 10 is a very low score as only 122 runs to chase and by now England must be already planning their strategy for tomorrow to save their dignity. All hopes again on Murtagh to get the wickets but I'm still impressed by Ireland to manage a tough fight against England in their own homeland. Looked just like an ODI today with 20 wickets falling and the first innings getting over so soon.

I have a feeling that the Brits took Ireland very lightly and used this test as an opportunity to give some of the younger players a test cap.
How? You think Jason Roy debute can be considered as opportunity to young? I don't count it as weakness of England.
Only the Olly Stone is a total noob who is not a batsman even. Therefore, their batting is one of the best in the world.

Test cricket is the best way to understand the strength of a team. Every team cannot play good tests, the value of test crickets can be known when enquired with the senior citizens of the country. Recently with the T20 cricket plan the younger generation has fallen for it as it is very little time consuming which is a big thing in the fast moving world.

That's really a big day with twenty wickets taken, every small team has been moving forward in every form of cricket. Looking at the play from Ireland it is a big performance. England will come back in the second innings, yet if there is some early fall of wickets surely England will play with pressure. Let's wait and watch what happens on second day.

I do not have much information about the current series match fixing but it was Vishnu.Reang who said that England will grant the match to Ireland only because they are their neighbors.
Does that mean that you had any information about prior series and had valid proof of match fixing and you utilized those information to make good money gambling  Undecided.

Also i do agree that small teams should be given the opportunity to play against big teams but again it is ICC who is responsible to make such series possible.
If a countries cricket board wants to play a bilateral series against a country i do not think that ICC will block them from conducting a series but they have to fulfill a big schedule to play every test playing nations and the cricketing board has the authority to finalize those dates and timings.

Ireland is leading by 122 runs but Ireland lost all their wickets for 207 runs and things are getting interesting, how England will perform in the second innings, 20 wickets lost in the first day of a test match and with Ashes coming up things are not that great for England.

200 up for Ireland. They are making a decent enough score here, and already they are having a lead of 122 runs with one wicket remaining. A win against England (and that too at the home of cricket) could give a massive boost for Ireland. They don't get these sort of opportunities very often, so they need to make the maximum gain out of this. The Irish needs to stay calm and score as many runs as possible. Even 5-6 runs can make a huge difference in the end.

OMG!!! Looks like everyone has misunderstood what I had posted earlier.

I was saying that since Ireland is a neighboring country, England will agree to play against them once every two or three years. I was not saying that England would lose the match intentionally, to show their neighborly love (sic).

Ireland gets one test every one or two years. And it will be very cruel to say that England got all out for 85 not because of good bowling by the Irish pacers, but due to some match fixing.  Huh

Well your previous wording were misleading one  Tongue

What a performance by England today! Totally deference from the world cup. I think nobody can guess that the recently winner of the One-day world cup team will package in only 85 runs in a test match. Really it's a very shocking performance by England. But hope Ireland will not give a good lead for England. Because they already lost 8 wickets for 182 runs. Hope England will come back and will win the match. Thanks

Lol This is international cricket where you have to play each match to win it and not to FIX it and grant it to any team only because they are neighbors.
India in pool match and Australia in semi finals played the fix matches to smoothen the way for England to the finals in WC and now England granting the match to their neighbors   Cheesy
Breaking News: The three bigs (Aus / Ind /Eng) are involved in match fixing  Cool
If you know the details about these fixed matches kindly share these million dollar secrets here too so that we all can take advantage of these fixed matches and win a lot of money  Tongue. If any player is involved in any match fixing scandal they will get a life long ban and these players are getting a lot of money playing international cricket as well as playing T20 leagues around the world and they will not risk those money and put their career at risk.

I don't think that the ECB really cares about this match. Since Ireland is their neighbor, they feel obliged to grant them one test every two or three years. The results probably doesn't matter, as the TV revenue is likely to be near zero.

Andy Balbirnie has scored a half century against England at the Lord's. 50 from 56 balls, at a strike rate of 89.0.
He just got out, 138 for 4. They still have a good chance to win the match, however, they need to have at least 200 leads on this innings which may have them a chase of 200 at the 4th innings.

Off-topic-
Royse vai, I am trying to get your attention on the other thread, the old one. Can you please response there if you don't mind- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.51936201
Stone's 7th over change all things for England and now we can say they are in commanding position because they can handle things in second inning Ireland 138 for 5 is not good enough for visitors as they need to do some more hard work if they want to win this match lets watch how they manage things from now.
