WTF is going on at Adelaide? India at 26/8, with a lead of 79 runs. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have 4 wickets each and India is heading towards an absolute humiliation. If I am not wrong, the lowest total India ever made in a test innings is 42 (vs England at Lords, 1974), and it is very probable that this record will be broken today (unless we witness some miracle from the part of Umesh Yadav and Hanuma Vihari).

Ashwin is in the team for his bowling skills and he is one of the top spinners in world cricket even though he does not have a place in the shorter format as the level of competition is high and his batting skills are a bonus while playing in difficult pitches.
IMO, Ashwin's batting skills are not better than that of either Pat Cummins or Mitchell Starc. He has scored some valuable runs in the past and his batting average is much better than his Australian counterparts. But most of his runs have come against weak opponents in Indian pitches. Expecting the same in Australia, against the pace trio of Starc/Hazlewood/Cummins would be a little too much.

The competition is still exciting even though the scores are low and the ball is seaming with the pink ball and it will test a batsman and that is what i like to watch in a match rather than a draw with huge runs by both teams.

That is why yesterday I said that India still have a big chance in this test match even though they scored a low total and now as we see Australia didn't even score 200 runs and its not because players are missing from the teams its because day/night test matches always seem to favour the bowlers especially the night sessions. History has shown that batting at night is extremely difficult even for the best batsman of the world. This will not end in a draw like the tour match as there is still a lot of time in this match for a result.

What ever be the case Ravichandran Ashwin has four centuries and he has a much better batting average than a common lower order batsman, i expected India to fold before 250 runs and that was achieved but i did not expect Australia to struggle like this which is really disappointing as i expected the top order to bat well rather they were too defensive and lost the wickets. Don't know why everyone talk about Rohit and Test in same context. He's great in limited overs but arguably one of the biggest failure in the test cricket. I would like him to make big in Test cricket but he failed to perform majority of time.
Everyone still remembers his T20 and ODI performance and we are playing a Test after a long gap and the last series Rohit Sharma played was against Bangladesh and he did not make any impact as an opener, may be the team will give him more opportunities but i want to see youngster filling the spot. At top order, will support Shaw for a long run but he's in really bad form atm so it would be good if he's rested or dropped for next games otherwise his confidence will go down similar to Pant (in the limited overs). These young guys are talented, they don't need cheerleaders but guidance.
Shaw is struggling with his defense and he might be dropped for the next game and expect Shubman Gill getting an opportunity. ~

Absence of David Warner has impacted the performance of Australia. It put a lot of pressure on Steve Smith, and he couldn't cope with it. Among the Australian batsmen, apart from Marnus Labuschagne and Tim Paine, none of the others managed to make more than 11 runs. I don't know why Joe Burns was included in the playing XI, after scoring 5 runs in 4 innings for Australia A.
Labuschagne did play some good shots but he didn't impressed much as batsman in the first inning, he's extremely talented individual and i am fan of his batting but the runs he scored after 3 drop catches doesn't justify his talent. This applies to both teams basically. The Indian team is missing players like Rohit, Jadeja, Ishant and even Kohli soon while Australia is missing players like Warner etc.

If Rohit comes back then team management should try him at the top order and see if he clicks otherwise he has no test career whatsoever. Fair amount of players coming at the middle order, Even Jadeja can bat sometimes. After Kohli departure Gill should replace him at number 4, he looked promising and performed well in warm up games.
At top order, will support Shaw for a long run but he's in really bad form atm so it would be good if he's rested or dropped for next games otherwise his confidence will go down similar to Pant (in the limited overs). These young guys are talented, they don't need cheerleaders but guidance.

But the way India wrapped up OZ for just 191 is highly commendable and Ashwin and Yadav were superb in their spells. Unfortunately, bad start again for Shaw and losing a early wicket this time as well. But good thing is that India has a lead of now 62 runs and somewhere 300+ target if set for OZ then would be difficult for them in the 4th innings.
Target of 300 plus will be too tough for the Indian batsmen. I think 250 should be enough, and for that India need to make total of 190-200 in the second innings. Any addition after this will increase their probability of winning. Ashwin bowled really well during the first innings. So we can expect him to perform even better, when Australia comes to bat next. India lead by 63 runs, hopefully India consolidates its position on day 3 anyway, 300 lead I will do wonders on this pitch. Ashwin changed his bowling style for this tour so he could get more spin and make use of the extra bounce. Up until now, It's working out appropriately and amazing us being the principle wicket takers, overall on a great bowling day for India.

Maybe the second innings can turn out to be high score innings on both sides because this is exactly what happened in the practice match between AUS A vs IND and ended up in a draw. Ashwin spells will be very crucial in the last innings and if the balls still find gripping then India will be over the AUS even in the chase of 250+ runs. The important thing is India needs to face more balls without losing many wickets in the first 10 to 15 overs of day 3 first session.

Lyon was expensive during the first innings and the Indian batsmen should target him (he conceded 68 runs in his 21 overs, and picked just one wicket). The strategy should be to play cautiously against Starc/Cummins/Hazlewood and to score runs when Lyon/Green/Labuschagne are bowling. But at least one among the top-5 batsmen need to make a century tomorrow.

Exhuisite performance by Indian bowlers. I thought only pacers would be the hero on this tour but Ravichandran Ashwin had some different plans today. I am pretty happy to see the classic spinners Era coming back gone are those days of Unorthodox mystery spinner who worked for just a couple of tours. If India can bowl out Australia under 200 and then can put up another 250 on the board I am pretty sure this would become an easy game for India. I was abusing Indian batsmen for batting so naively looks like Australians are much more surprised at their own home grounds. Even the might Smith couldn't do a thing. Thankfully opened his account otherwise he would have been named the Australian Prithvi Shaw. 
Very happy for Ashwin, he was game changer for India. I hope he play next game as well, hoping because he has a habit of getting injured or going down the hill after every series opener despite performing well.

Am not surprised at all to be honest. Ashwin and Jadeja have been the best Indian spin bowling combo for a while now primarily overseas. These guys pile on the pressure by making the batsmen waste balls who usually go on to play bad shots and get out in the process. Is Jadeja injured or something? Why isn't he a part of this match?
