Very few Asian countries are available in the list. As per the data, western nations have good number of gamblers. The amount being spend on gambling by an average person from the top countries is really big when calculated against the fiat currency value of third world countries. For some people it is one year's earning through their daily job for the living.
seeing from the data above, my country is not on the list, which means there are still very few gamblers in my country...
It is true that Asian countries have few gamblers but not a few players from Asia who play in western countries or the US. if we look at 'spent on gambling/year', the countries from Asia are in the lead.
We know that Asian countries have traditional gambling games, so I think that does not count as gambling on that list. If they count the traditional gambling games, I think the Asian countries will get on the list. We do not know what their indicator to list the countries that playing gambling, so we can just accept the list. If we want, we can search for the other sources to see the other countries that gamble the most.

I thought that China would be the number 1 on the list because most of the gambling games are created or originated in China, just because of misinformation that I had, thinking that China would be the number 1 on the list. I searched about gambling in China and it says that gambling is still illegal in China, not bad because they have still reached the number 2 spot. USA got the number 1 spot maybe most of them are active in the sports betting because the USA is active in that part.
That's what I thought as well, here in my country we adapted some Chinese gambling games such as Majong, I think most of the old people in china knows how to gamble or they are good at gambling and given by the number if their population I thought they will rank as number 1. There are many Chinese gamblers migrated in our country as well, there is a place that almost 90% is occupied by Chinese people who do gambling and last time our govt discovered some of them are illegally making money in online gambling.

Actually most of the stuffs we use are made from China and/or they claim to be theirs 😂. But yes, there are gambling games that originated from China that are widely used on offline and digital casinos which is the reason why it is ranked second. But we must factor out that the amount of population and gamblers per country.

Anyway, if I were to ask on what country that gambles the most, then I'll instantly answer USA then China. First thing that came up to mind is Las Vegas that is considered as the gambling capital of the world which for me is enough reason for USA to rank 1.

There's actually a lot of poker hubs on Australia. Although I expected US to be somewhere on top of this list or Hongkong perhaps. As someone who has interest in sports betting, I find it very easy to slip into the world of online gambling.
I think it is not Hongkong or United states , Instead it is Macau in China that is being the Hub of every gambler in the world now in our time.

Las Vegas time had already overtaken by Macau .

You win some, and the aspect of learning cryptos just makes it more fun for me. If we can categorized data like this but based on Bitcoin gamblers, that would be nice.

This is a Late data , because it was posted back in 2018 and i believe most of the Article created for gambling if you use a google search majority was created back in 2018 and below meaning those are not updated in the gambling world now.

Macau must have been the place where all games can be seen. Every country where China invested in there is always hotel-casino that will almost cover 10 hectares. They did have in Hanoi all the way down to Cambodia and to Singapore. It should have been these counties that actually are on top of the list that it would mean every Chinese gambler will likely lose more than $1288.

I don't live in any of these countries and I have to say that I'm quite surprised, I would have never thought that Australia could be at first place. I would say that one of the Mediterranean countries would come first. Nevertheless it's nice to see some statistics like this, maybe we change some prejudice about gambling habits in certain countries.

That's my first thought when I saw the list.
I was expecting like HongKong/Macau or US to top the list.
If gambling is prevalent in Australia, why is it the that known gambling capital in the world is Macau?
Or maybe we are missing something here. The list is the losses per adult.
Does it mean that gamblers in Australia are high spenders? Because we're talking about average expenditure per adult.

Australia has one of the most stringent gaming regulations. It is rather difficult for players from outside this country to participate in other bets and many bookmakers have special requirements for players in Australia. I wonder where such data comes from and how it can be reliably measured?

May not the very accurate data in terms of ranking but gambling in Australia is famous and online sports gambling betting is in high demand what I know about it. But something like Las Vegas and Hongkong behind does not fit the bill as those are the tourists spot as well and people for gambling keep visiting those places around the world. But yes, gambling is crazy in many countries and it just keeps on growing.

It is right. When it comes to online gambling, the statistic can not be a guide because people from many countries can visit any gambling site, especially if their country doesn't block access to visit on all websites. Even if people get the block to visit the gambling website, they can easily continue to visit and playing gambling using VPN, so that will not be a problem. If online gambling is included on that list, the data needs to research more to find validity. Still, I guess the data will not be valid since many people, including teenagers, can play gambling following the adult around them.

I did a little reading and it turns out that China's gambling statistic only came from two cities, Hong Kong and the Las Vegas of the East which is Macau. If the statistic is correct then we see that the gambling statistic might be tricky because not all gamblers in the Macau-HongKong area are Chinese, most of them are also composed of other nationalities mostly tourists and some foreign residents. So they should also show how much money is being lost by a tourist, as opposed to a resident.

have you ever wondered which are the countries where gambling is more popular?

I knew answer from the begging: the richest countries are the most gambling countries. This is obvious: in poor countries you have much more useful things to do with your money, rather than playing gambling games where you will lost money for sure.

And in rich countries you can spend some part of income to transform it into entertainment.

this website gives us a clue about it.

Quote
Rank   Country   Gaming Losses Per Adult
1   Australia   $1,288.00
2   Singapore   $1,174.00
3   Ireland   $588.00
4   Canada   $568.00
5   Finland   $553.00
6   Italy   $517.00
7   Hong Kong   $503.00
8   Norway   $448.00
9   Greece   $420.00
10   Spain   $418.00

do you live in any of these countries? it'd be nice to hear more on the opinions of someone who knows the gambling scene on each place.

this other website tell a slightly different story

And both of this statistic sits just confirm my statements. Only wealth countries (about China i think it's because Macao and Hong Kong)

I don’t think the data presented here can be relied on. For example, I do not see England on this list, where the bookmaker business is officially allowed and the turnover of funds should be simply stunning.

Maybe we need to make a new list of the biggest countries, so we know that the data is up to date. But that will not be easy as we need to research to get valid data, especially we are still at a pandemic, which can be more difficult to get. With the lockdown in many countries, I think not many casinos will reopen their business, and maybe some casinos are already close because they can not pay their employees. So that will make a list will change.
I do not think that these data are so important to conduct more research for this.

Looking at the same link article OP presents we can see another graphic which shows Macau as the most profitable gambling country for casino operators. So you are somehow right in your first assumption.

Anyway Australia still appears on top 2 with relative safe margin. This result is really surprising for me.
Maybe this data only includes legal regulated gambling industry discarding all the illegal casinos and gamblers around the world?

Having spent time in OZ - I would say their culture towards gambling makes them no1 in the SPORTS betting space

Gambling on Sports, Keno and Pokies (Fruit machines) was avaible in every bar I visited
The TAB network of sports betting Terminals is totally anonymous - so very easy to play, you insert cash and your keep hold of your ticket
TAB's are available 24 hours (Virtual sports when no live sport on - vey rare!)
Online bookies also very popular, there are even TAB shops.

Horses, Dogs and chariots are the daily staple - followed by any live sports that is televised somewhere in the world

I can't comment on casinos or pokies as these are not my thing - but I had a great time down under!

Country of Australia is the number 1 in the list, Im waiting for the OP to update this thread for this year 2021 and I think they have changes happen and maybe the ranking will change.

I will go for the USA because that country people bet every games in gambling they spend a huge amount of money and they have a lot of casino in there and for sure they have a lot of people who play in there and the average of every person play in there is very high this is only I think and maybe for the others it would be different.

indeed this is something we discussed here, sometimes it may be hard to know the process they did to research.
it I had to guess I'd say that informal and street gambling is probably not included, high chances that data comes more from regulated sources like cassinos.

One of my countries does not too much into the world of casinos because we are not too much reach enough also due to covid the government prohibited for now opening the casino or any kind of gathering to prevent spreading the number of infected but still there are some places here on us having fun with the illegal gambling not totally illegal but just having fun with the neighbours and try to gambling seek to the fun even tho this is not right but we can't stop them because they have a different perspective. If those peoples are included in the data and statistics for sure its really help. But of course its just a random sampling or snowballing effect.
